FZS600 Fazer / Re: Hand guards
« on: 26 January 2013, 01:37:01 pm »
TRX -I've always fancied riding one but never owning one, something about an inline twin brings up rotten memorys of my now long ago deceased cb500.
Mate they are nothing like a normal in line twin. 270 degree firing order makes them feel/sound like a V twin. Way too tame/quiet with standard pipes fitted but a pair of cans soon sorts it. Very tall 1st gear makes tom foolery a bit of a chore but an excellent real world bike. Power delivery exactly where it is needed. Rear ride height needs raising to make steering feel less vague & front can also be dropped slightly for same result. Did both on mine which transformed it. I loved my TRX, went all around Wales on it & rode it to the Nurburgring & back. That's me & my TRX in my avatar if your eyes are real good. Just lacked a bit of top speed for me. They only have 5 gears too.  :\

Lol I could normally hold them off until at least the 2nd bend on the TRX.  Last few laps on my trust old Fireblade not a single car or bike passed me!  :eek

Don't own a 600 but certain that all the Yamaha's I have ever owned have had M6 studs both ends or M6 one end & M8 at t'other. M10 seem huge for exhaust stud to me?  :eek

Been in my car, on my TRX850 & on my Fireblade. Always stay at Brendan's place,  http://www.slidersguesthouse.com/
Always wear 1 piece leathers (not in car!), not ideal on the ferry but don't own 2 piece suit. Would not entertain anything less personally. Depending on how quick you are around there you may need to check your mirrors regularly for faster cars/bikes you could be holding up. Weather can make or break your trip so don't cry if it rains for your entire stay. September is pushing it if you ask me regards weather but who knows? Wouldn't advise timing yourself either. Up to you but chasing lap times on your first visit doesn't seem like a good idea to me specially if you are in a group. From experience I would not advise lapping with a close friend or friends if you have a history of interesting & competitive bike related stories together!  Track closes often during the day due to accidents. Some are down to people who don't know their own limits, some because of oil/coolant spillages from cars causing bikers to slide off. Worst case & not too frequent but it happens so be aware!
The place is stunning, scenery amazing at the ring & surrounding areas. If you're lucky with the weather you WILL want to return. Best advice I can think of is to remind yourself constantly whilst lapping that your bike is your only means of getting home & that you are a long way from it! lol
Look forward to hearing all about your trip.  8)

You may actually need firmer sponge not softer. If soft sponge is squashing flat you might need something that gives your cheeks more support. Nice image?  :lol

Might pay you to angle the slope of your seat back a bit whilst your at it ie, remove more foam from the rear part than front. Fazer seat tends to force your gonads towards the tank on long journeys.  8)

Cheers for that. Looking at the twin snail horns as a possible upgrade. Anything has got to be better than the standard hooter! Really need something to wake up the idiots on the road. Shouting at the top of my voice doesn't always do the trick (motorways) & gives me sore throat/headache.  :evil

I had similar symptoms with an old FZ750 I rebuilt. Tick over fine, spluttering under load until high revs reached where it seemed fine again. Cause was corrosion in the HT leads where they screw into pug caps. Connection wasn't bad enough to cause problems unless the engine was under load.
Where plug access is a problem it always makes me wonder how many "mechanics" decide that replacing them is too much trouble & just don't bother. Solution? Change them yourself.  8)

This post has touched a raw nerve with me today. My wife & kids are leaving me because of my horse racing addiction as I type this. They're at the gate now.. .   & they're off!

Okay my Fazer is a thou but I've had all 3 of those bikes! Didn't realise the DT50 was still being made in 1987. Mine was an X reg.
A TRX850 would look right at home with that lot.  8)

It's not OTT hoonery which is what I couldn't understand. Bit of sporadic acceleration on both parts & some shouting.  :\

Should check mine really. Bike has done 34K with no record of them being done. Did my old FZ750 2 years ago. Very time consuming.  :\

Impressive. I had a DT50 as a kid that would cut out at the first hint of rain!
Love how he lifts his feet up in an attempt to possibly keep them a bit dryer?   :lol

Good names - where did you get them from ;)

ps how do you find Proboards compared with here?

I didn't get them from here if that's what you're implying?  Started the FZ forum some 2.5 years ago, only found this place about 18 months ago. I just took cues from several other forums I am registered on, ditched stuff that didn't apply or didn't seem relevant & added some stuff that I thought was.
I haven't had any problems with the board crashing & hardly ever get any spammers but then the forum isn't particularly busy. Being dedicated to a single model bike that hasn't been made since 1991 means activity is generally ermmmm.. .  minimal?  :lol I have tried to keep the layout simple in an attempt to encourage some of the less computer orientated owners to register. Nearly 250 members in 2.5 years is a lot more than I ever thought it would have!
