Seems the Bike has a current MOT and Insurance .. needs new Road Tax so that his Dad can use from time to time.

Apparently .. he gets so far into the on-line proceedure and it stops .. unable to go any further .. just seems strange.

His first thinking was that the DVLA might be just shut over Easter?

:\   UK Forces Mate of mine is currently out of the country and having real problems re-taxing his bike on line.

The normal system seems to be 'off' or 'not working' as always did?

Has anyone else found this problem recently .. and of course if so .. how did you get around it ?

:)   Oh Yes Jon .. in fact .. I was even younger than that for a few years.

Back in the class of 1956 I was still 16 .. far Right in old photo .. however .. in those days we did have to kind of 'grow up' a bit swift like  :eek  .  I recon it's a pity that All lads don't get such a good start off the grid these days.  :\

:)   Hi,    I am not a Mechanic by a very long way .. so I'm not much help on that track.

However .. seems to me you asking for a hell of a lot from the guys in here if you can't answer their questions  :\

They'll need all the details and info if they are going to make any worthwhile recommendations. So:

Who is your ''very highly commended mechanic'' .. what qualifications or experience does he have?
(As I understand it .. sorting forks to work for you is a bit more involved than pushing a spring down a pipe  :\ )

What pressures did he put in the tyres, and how long ago was that?  You might (should) check them yourself  :) .

How Heavy are you mate (in full kit)?  On a Bike size does matter .. really .. and your name is BIG Blue Bear  :eek .

Any chance of talking to the previous owner?  Who did you buy the Bike from .. Private or Dealer?

And so on .. if your problems can be sorted .. this is the best place to start .. but the guys need something to work with  :)

Stay Safe Buddy .. don't go round any more corners just yet  ;)     Trev    (Also a Big Bear .. Polar Clan)

Tailgate,  Hi Mate ..

I can't see what the 'sidecar' bit has to do with the Bike Seat .. sorry maybe I should not have included that word.
A seat on a Bike is a Bike seat  :\

As for your 'Not Old Enough'   :rolleyes   Well .. like most Solo riders .. you have no idea about the fun you are missing .. I had my first BSA 650 Black Flash outfit back in 1959 when I was about twenty.

:)    This is a Grinnall Trike guys.   Mine for about 4 years .. brilliant at all it says on the tin.

I got a bit bored with it . rode it from Denia to Coventry overnight and let it go for £ notes .. collected my third Gen1 on the next trip  :b

No idea what it is ... but this 'Open Air' Yellow jobby looks really cool ... ideal for the Spanish summer heat   8)  .. but those (way out of step) box panniers look bloody terrible in my opinion!  :\

Good move to buy these things in my opinion .. they have been in use for years in all kinds of conditions .. commercial and sport.

Used correctly .. they are waterproof UNDER-water .. so you should not have any problems with one on a bike .. unless of course you live in Manchester maybe  :rollin

:)   I had the seat on the 'Spanish Dancer' Honda CB1300 sidecar outfit completely re-built and re-covered to order by Tony .. while I waited  8)

All organised and booked well in advance .. to be done during a ride from Holland back to Spain via Scotland. He also made me a one off matching additional 'cushion' insert .. to fit inside the sidecar seat (She's worth it  ;) ).

All done with 100% expert workmanship and top class materials and just about unbeatable prices .. no complaints.

However .. he really is the most laid back bugger you'll ever meet  :rolleyes  so he does not always please everyone .. I've heard a few very valid complaints about his service. Give him time and listen to his advice .. you will not go far wrong.

I also recently got an Air Hawk inflatable jobby .. nice bit of extra $£€ comfort on my regular 500 to 750 mile days  :lol

I've never used a Gel insert .. but they are no use down here on the Costa Blanca anyway .. 40c+ temps in the summer can really hot things up on a bike .. frying your bum within minutes.   :\ .

:)    Have you guys seen the 'anti cramp' gizmo thing that Scottoiler do .. a small black plastic 'paddle' that slides over the throttle grip.

You can then rotate it and adjust it so that your wrist is resting on it (when cruising) to hold a constant speed.   Saves the need to grip anything and that gives your hand(s) a rest , without the vibes.  Bit like Cruise Control Systems .. but much simpler.

They come in two 'widths' wide and narrow .. and two Grip Sizes .. Fat for Heated Grips or Thin for standard grips.

 8)  The wide one is (IMO) too big .. it gets in the way of your thumb when you do need to grip the bars. They 'rotate' on (and off) in two seconds .. no tools required .. so no risk of having them go 'walkabout' when you are parked up.

I have recently been trying the narrow one over heated grips .. this size seems to work OK .. once you get used to them.  Like most things new .. they look a little bit strange at first .. but of course it's all out of sight under your hand when in use.

Ideal for the motorway commute cruisers and long haul touring enthusiasts .. a very simple idea that helps stop cramp and vibes, etc. Worth a go for about £5.00 .. I recon.

Stay Safe  ;)     Trev        (I'd guess Scottoiler might show these on their web-site ?)

Hello Again,
Some really beautiful animals about .. Shelly looks like she would indeed be well quick off the grid  :eek

I've checked out the German Pointers and Hungarian Vizslas .. all good looking dogs .. I would guess quite both breeds are close to the Labrador Clan.

At this stage .. Annie favours a Lab and I favour Big & Black .. so I recon that's the route we'll be going. I also have to consider that a pup will probably have a good chance of out living me. Most of you will not be thinking like this at all yet I know .. but comes the day when we need to start getting things in order .. cough, splutter, groan .. gasp.  :\

The Dog would be then be left to look after Annie for me .. and Annie would take over all things Dog  :)  so it needs to be a breed that she can handle.  Labs seem to fit that bill too .. subject to training as always.

Just to pop back into Bike Mode for a moment .. I am also having thoughts about how well a pet Dog would travel in an open Sidecar.   Of course he would need a fixed harness .. and in Spain probably a Helmet as well.  But what about the 'noise factors'?   Do any of you Dog guys have any thoughts about how well (or Not) a Dog might adjust to being close to a performance bike engine with an after market exhaust system?  :'( Is this an acceptable thing to be doing?

Cheers in advance as ever ... Stay Safe  ;)    Trev

:)   Wow .. Cheers Guys .. some good stuff in the reply box already .. almost blooming well woke me up early.

OK .. I take it all on board so far .. good stuff that will be a big help when I get the Pup.  I'll move the goal posts along a little if I may .. we don't have a Dog .. a door bell or a brass knob knocker  :\

I am (genuinely) concerned about 'unwanted visitors' creeping about outside .. day as well as night and maybe trying to get in.  The Eastern European invasion is well under way down here .. two attempted car park robbery's in the past week here on our patch.  The guys are stealing anything that they can move. Push bikes are very popular, washing off the line, and whatever they can sell .. they are desperate and the current financial climate in Spain don't help much!

Lot's of 'Pull Over' muggings on the roads and Airport car parks .. they stop the cars and just help themselves .. mostly at knife point .. all gone in a minute. Police don't have a clue .. or much interest! Nice way to start your holiday .. Not!

I have trouble just thinking about what I might do (or not do) if I was faced with this crap .. years ago I'd have at least taken a few with me .. today .. I'll get my head kicked in.  I fear for Annie .. it's all daft I know .. but it's real.

So .. I'm thinking about a few Pick Axe Handles tucked away out of sight but handy. Problem with any weapon is that if you lose it .. for sure it will be used against you.    A Big Dog on my side would be helpful and I love animals anyway. Of course Pets are not allowed here on this patch .. but the cat don't seem to understand .. so **** em .. if I want a Dog .. I'll have one.

This is not a Daft Old Fart in a pointless flap about nothing .. for example:  A guy we know has recently had news that his Brother in Law had 4 guys get into his villa one night .. he had a go .. got thrown down the stairs .. hit his head .. brain damage .. alive but now in recovery in hospital in UK .. at this stage unable to walk or speak.  His wife has gone dark and refused to tell anyone what they did to her. It's all on the increase and really serious.

It's a bloody shame .. we moved to Spain for a better life .. the UK has lost the plot in my opinion .. but in just a few years the whole thing down here has to be seen and considered from completely different angles.   I think the UK has some of this stuff to come within the not so distant future .. seem we (the Government) have no idea about how many are already in or how many more are in the queue to get in.    Bordering on talking politics here .. time to shut up .. I'll go and check my UKIP card and read up on Google about Dog Breading £$€   8)

Any further hints and tips on Dog Training will be very welcome .. Munchos Grassy Arse  :)

Stay Safe (well do your best then)   Trev

:)   Really Good Reply is that our Paul ... I am pleased you rose to the task so well!  8)

All good stuff .. lots for the guys (and girls!) on both sides to consider and understand .. also a few bods on this side who are only now discovering 'our' Fazer 1000 Owners group .. after more than 12 years .. maybe we need to have a 'sticky' on both sides?  (Nod towards Admin)

As for the gradual 'falling apart' of 'our' group .. I think the fact that it has always been 100% Bike related makes the difference.   This FOC-U side is much more like a Social Network site .. they play games, have competitions and chat about all sorts of everything .. not just Bikes .. this probably helps to keep the place alive.

All in .. I recon I've done my bit anyway .. truth is I have not been at all 'comfortable' about my (boring old fart) type involvement since Annie and I moved to live in Spain and although I had three of them .. I have not actually owned a Gen 1 for almost five years.  The Spanish Dancer outfit really suits my style  :rolleyes   So I don't think many (if any) people will be reading my words in the same mode as I write them in these days.

That's about me all done on this years Brum Bike Shed Meet I think. I can't get there anyway this time .. I'm on the very short notice list for another new hip joint job at the local Hospital .. and I really can't risk missing their call!

I hope everyone who gets to the Bike Shed has a nice ride both ways, a bit of dry grass to sit on and a few happy snaps for the book.  I'll not mention the Photo Shoot Line-Up .. none of you seem to understand the words: 'Front Wheel On the White Line' ??  :\    Somewhere near the line will not do!

Stay Safe Guys  ;)  Trev

« on: 24 March 2013, 10:22:20 pm »
 :)   Hi There Paul,

You and Me .. We go back a long way mate .. so please read this as it's intended .. no hitting .. I really am curious.

I take it all on board as to why (you say) you have not been at these annual Group Brum Bike Shed in recent years ..
It is a good 100 miles from Wigan .. unless of course you want to skip the M6 and make it a fun ride both ways  8) .
The weather may well be cold, wet or both .. some things we have no control over .. so normally a Plan-B day is fixed.
The meet is held on a Car Park (but the National Motorcycle Museum is very handy near to the M42 .. not on it)
Three hours of Bike Related stuff with like minded guys ain't so bad .. once in a year .. some might say it's quite nice.
You maybe more than most might get some good photography done .. you have the pro kit for the job .. in fact three hours might not be long enough.

As already stated .. this venue is very central in the UK .. fair for everyone .. we have no say in any Post Codes.
It's about as easy as anywhere in the UK ever could be to find .. follow NEC signs and the entrance is well marked.
All the required facilities are on site, it's free, safe parking, toilets and a cafe that opens on a Sunday.

So .. my Serious Questions are:
You say you think:  Meeting somewhere New, at a Better Weather time would be more favourable.  You might well be right.

Where and When would You like to meet up?  Where can we find all the facilities in one place on a Sunday? Also can you give me a clue as to what you would want to do once everyone got there?  What is your idea of Fun?  Would you attend yourself on your bike?  I'll not ask you about the weather on the day .. some questions just don't have answers.

End of the day mate .. we all know you ain't gonna be there, no need for any bets Luke .. but I for one would be genuinely interested to have your take on something or is it somewhere better.

Just for the Newbies and the record:  I set up and attended every meeting for the first six years .. before moving to live in Spain.  I have also ridden up from the Costa Blanca to Brum and back to attend this meeting three times in the past seven years. It's a challenge, long distance, often snow on the central mountains in April, always rain in the Northern area of Spain and I get sea sick on the ferry  :\  yes Sea Sick .. Me  :eek

All in .. I think it's about as much fun as I can have on a bike .. not being anywhere near fit (or young enough at 73) to get involved in Track Days or Off Road stuff anymore.  It's just Me, The Bike and The Long Haul Highway  :b

If you give me your take on you ideas for alternative (or better still additional) group meet up dates and locations mate .. and I'll check my Social Events book .. yes really  8)

Talk to me and as always Stay Safe Buddy  ;)    Trev

:)   Nice that you have taken my comments in the right mode mate .. so often the written word gets very badly interpreted by the reader.

Shame about the cut Strap .. you'll need another 'pack of three' now.

I've no doubt the Bike stood safe as houses like that (somewhere) for two months .. however in my experience the problems normally only ever happen when You are involved .. Lifting, Lowering or Working on the Bike !!

You'll find guys in here who have knocked over or dropped their bike down at deck level .. it's not that difficult to do .. even a strong gust of wind will push one off a centre stand .. even more so if it's under a cover!

Anyway .. that's probably more than enough from me .. a big welcome to the clan .. I hope you can get your wife to be nice and comfortable up on the back seat ..  nothing better than doing fun stuff together  .. normally Annie will buy the Pit Stop Lunch or pay for the overnight Hotels .. I get the fuel and running costs  :)

Stay Safe  ;)    Trev

:)   Your DIY Bike Lift looks quite good Buddy .. very tidy !

So much easier to work on the bike when it's up at that height.

I would however advise that you sort out the Strapping Down method .. that single strap hooked over the plastic Fork Protectors will not hold much if things do start to move!

Both 'sides' of the Strap need to be 'fixed' (secured as in by wrapping around the Bars, Rear foot peg hangers, Grab rail Frame or whatever) as it is ... if the bike (I mean when the bike) moves .. it will move 'inside' the strap loop.   Better to use two or even better still four straps .. one or two on each side front and rear. Also close the Ratchet handles down flat.     Too late when it starts to fall .. you will not catch it!  :eek

Hard to see in the picture .. but has the lift got a 'height locking pin' of some sort .. not good if the jack is the only thing holding everything up.  The lift needs a locking system so that the jack can then be lowered a little to take the weight off the hydraulics.

While I'm on a roll here  :rolleyes   It also looks like you might have just cut that nice new strap  :\  .. tail end and Stanley Knife on the deck.  Never a good thing to do that .. Sods Law Rules that you will need a longer strap for sure at some point very soon.

All the above is just in my opinion of course .. nothing more  8)
