I know what you mean about it not being level, that would drive me nuts until i'd sorted that out.
Aha so I'm not the only obsessive compulsive around here then :)

Right then I've made an executive decision and all decisions are final! - unless I change me mind  :lol The left one (which to be honest is the one that gets caught in me boot when pushing bike and the one that gets caught when I'm pushing it out of the gate due to the angle I approach the gate  -  dont ask :rolleyes ) is going and the right one is staying. Many thanks for all advice, opinions and help, cheers Steve

You don't 'need' them, without them you can successfully grind boots, the actual pegs and the exhaust (on right handers at least!). As others say footpegs are spring loaded and give you a 'soft' touch down grinding the exhaust leaves you risk of lifting the bike up mid-corner.
The idea is they touch down before an exhaust or something else grounds, digs in and tips you off. Best to keep them on I reckon.
So maybe I could take off the left one and leave the right one on :)

Hey up, what are the little tear drop shaped whatchamacallits on the bottom of the front footrests and would it be disastrous if I amputated them - tbh they keep getting stuck in the top of me boots when pushing or pulling me bike and they always seem to get caught when going through tight spaces - any ideas? cheers m'dears. p.s. happy new year to all our readers

I know slimwilly, it only had 7500 on the clock when I got it (about July last year)- doesn't look quite so clean now what with farmers replacing the road surface with soil and other things which I'd rather not think about, the bloody weather and all the other things that the bike has to drive through but never mind ,most fun things involve getting dirty ;)

OK I think this might work -pics of bike- This is what it looked like when I bought it ,I have since put on a custom seat cover, dark indicator lenses and an led dark lens rear light , stainless down pipes and changed the brake pipes for braided ones, some other things in the pipeline ( no pun intended ) will post pics of what it looks like when I have it how I like it ( never  ending job -theres always something I didn't know about that I cant possibly do without  :) ) cheers Steve

Hi ,

Im 5ft 7 and can get both feet down, mine came with a lowered seat which i changed for a standard one as it was to low for me??, sound like yours has been raised?
if you want to try my lowered seat youre more than welcome to pop over, im near Heathrow.

Mark

Cheers for the offer Mark, but I live in Chester and tbh it would be a bit of a round trip :) ,Steve

Why don't you just get off and push it? It is a lot easier :lol

Most of the time I would but getting it through the back gate means theres no room for me and the bike and the slight incline means it can be a bit of a bugger  :)

This might be stupid however; I'm 5' 8" and found that when wearing jeans (which was incredibly rare) I found it very hard to get both feet on the ground to the point that I usually didn't bother (so just used one foot). This was only the case when my main trousers were in the wash or something. My main ones are particularly baggy (especially after weight loss) and allow me to easily get my feet on the ground.

Basically, that was a really long ass way of saying could it be your trouser wear? :P

Yeah I found this, especially with me waterproofs, getting me leg over could be problematic especially if me keks had slipped down a bit :lol

Its not much of a problem when out and about and I can reach the floor its just getting through the back gate and similar tight squeezes that I find meself tiptoeing through the tulips so to speak, to be fair I may go the seat mod route take an inch or so off, cheers all,Steve

Thats an idea but I dont really know where to go to get that done, and the lowering kit is £16 and I suspect getting the seat done to a professional standard might cost a bit more - however I would look at that option if someone could say who does it and how much it costs. I live in the Chester area p.s. the seat cover is a custom cover would that be compromised, cheers Steve

The size of the potholes I occasionally hit ( you cant avoid all of them  :\ ) I'm surprised bits aren't dropping off with boring regularity - bloody dentist and osteopath are making  fortunes from me thanks to the highways dept  :'( - bastards!

I'm only 5'9" and to be honest trying to push the Fazer while sitting on it  I have to go on tiptoe, which may be good for my lower stomach muscles but is a bit of a pain,so I'm thinking of getting one of them there lowering kits. has anyone of my height or approx done this and which would be the best distance to lower by 25 or 50cm,also the sidestand doesn't make the bike lean to much as is, can it be replaced by a one which gives a bit more confidence especially if the 50cm lowering kit is used finally should I make the rear spring slightly harder so that bottoming out doesn't occur - thats if it would? the physics of lowering the bike escapes me tbh, thanks in advance ,cheers Steve :)

Introduction / quick self intro
« on: 14 December 2012, 04:09:21 pm »

Hello, just a few short lines for an introduction - my name is Steve I'm in my 50's physically, still in me teens mentally. I have

a Fazer fzs 600 (2001) nice metallic blue colour ( will try and post photo if its easy)I also have an xv 125 virago which I used

as a runaround practising for me test. Me and the bikes live in Chester - I like messing with things that I buy to make them a

bit different - nothing too extreme, the odd polished cover here and there, colour coordinated grips,so prepare yourselves

for some questions along the lines of "Help I took this off to polish it and I cant get it back on again" that sort of thing :)

I'm not a mechanic by any means but I can do the odd thing - and frequently do! Anyway look forward to future chats oh

and Merry Christmas and God bless us one and all :) cheers, Steve

ps can someone advise on how to put picture in intro - only been here two minutes and asking for help already :lol
