FZS600 Fazer / Re: Cylinders 3 & 4 not firing
« on: 27 July 2023, 07:27:10 pm »
loosen the drain screws on cylinders 3&4 to see if you get any fuel out?

When you cleaned the carbs, did you blow through all the galleries with compressed air to get all the crap out? Did you replace the fuel filter?

Chances are, as i have had it before, dislodged crap has blocked the carbs completely from getting fuel or the jets are blocked again. If it starts firing on all 4 at higher (above 5k) revs then my money is on blocked jets. If it still wont run on all 4 then its blocked flue galleries.

All of the above assumes that the coils are correctly connected to the correct cylinders. #1&4 on the left coil, #2&3 on the right coil.

@BBROWN1664: No reactions from the dash lights@TOM VR46: Interesting post, thx. So checked the operation of the sidestand switch and got continuity with sidestand up, so all good. Clutch switch also fully functional.

Starting to suspect the issue is related to the Starter Circuit Cut-off Relay as this is connected with the fuel pump that suddeny got silent (no more ticking sound when turning the key). See if I can manage to check it and order a used one on Ebay. Will post the outcome when part has arrived.

No reaction from the dash lights suggests the start switch circuits do not think the start switch is being pushed. The dash lights will come on if the bike is in gear with the side stand down etc and when everything is working normally (you just dont see them as you relase teh button quickly)

you need ot investigate the wiring diagrams relating to the starter switch.

Maybe check the main fuses again.

Check the leads are on teh correct plugs. From the left hand coil they should go to plug 1&4. From the right hand coil, to plug 2&3.

Sounds like he plugged them back incorrectly after fitting new plugs.
Checked that and based on the labels they are in right order

Dont go by labels, they may have been put on incorrectly. Did you check that the HP leads for #1 & 4 went to the same coil?

put the bike on the main stand, put the side stand up and pullthe clutch lever in. Make sure the bike is in neutral and then press the starter button. Do all the dash lights (oil etc) come on when you press the start button now?

I tried sitting on the 700 but found it a bit small. Probably fine compared to the FZS600 but the main bike i had been riding before buying the 900 was a Tiger 900 so used to the bigger bikes.

I guess you have seen is mostly black engine/s but with random parts of it in silver (eg the cylinder barrels).

Either black engines with silver cylinders or silver with black.

Thanks all - dropped the idea of getting an  FZS1000 for now and gone for an MT-09 Tracer instead.

put a bit of oil in the cylinder to see if its a sticky/knackered ring.
Could be dirt/crap stopping one of the valves sealing properly too.

you could drain the carbs off first but the jets may be blocked anyway.
Give it a squirt of easy start to see if it runs on that - this will prove its fuel related rather than ignition related.

If i remember correctly, there are normally 4 pipes from new on these bikes.

- Fuel tank overflow
- Fuel tank breather
- Carb overflow
- Battery overflow

You need to trace them back to see which ones you are looking at

I did about 120 miles after picking it up and had previously been riding a 23 year old Tiger 900i and a 23 year old FZS600. Compared to them the ONLY thing i could find wrong was the seat. It gets uncomfortable for me after an hour so a Bagster seat has been ordered already. I have not played with or checked the suspension settings yet but it seemed fine to me. Maybe one of the previous owners has done something with this already. It has the standard screen on it which didn't cause me any issues either. The engine and brakes are superb. This really is the modern FZS to me. It is light and nimble but is quick and handles well. Just like the original FZS600.

I did try sitting on the Tracer 700 and found it too small for me.

93
as it is bolted on, does it work better the other way round? i.e. with the "prong" in front of the stand instead of behind as in the picture?

I have finally gone and got one. 2016 MT09 Tracer. Needs a bit of a clean and one or two minor things fixing but it was a bargain and had to be had.

I nearly went for this one though. 2017 with just 500 mile son the clock!

Camchain and tensioner will not have failed at that mileage. Probably just needs a good service and a thrash to get the tensioner to move out a notch

I have been looking at a few FZS1000 online and not sure if this is normal or not. Some of the ones with black engine cases appear to have silver or grey cylinders. Is this right or should i be wary?

Varifocals would be the way to go, with reactor light lenses if not too expensive. Worth taking a crash helmet with you to the opticians so that you choose a frame that’s compatible with being shoved over your ears repeatedly. Some stylish but flimsy frames won’t last five minutes, or are not rigid enough to be pushed past your ears at all.

Or wear a flip front one to save taking the glasses off

All Yams since 1990 can use E10, use it or don't, just stop scare mongering.

Super unleaded just gives me a placebo feeling of the bike running better and giving more mpg. It probably isn't and doesn't but i will enjoy the occasional placebo.

I ride with varifocals with no real issues. You dont need to move your head so much to read the speedo etc.
