FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Fz6 tyre time help!!
« on: 26 September 2015, 11:18:28 pm »
I have maxxis supermax diamonds on mine, I get about 4,500 miles out of a rear, will be putting the 6th rear on soon, I find them better than the 020's that the bike came with and I replaced with 3 more rears, I put a new front on to 2 rears, you can't beat a new set of tyres, my bike has 44,500 miles on it, I changed the oil in the front forks last year and the brake fluid, greased the swingarm, hope to do the head bearings soon, but still handles like new.

jet washer, wire brush, scrapers, what paint doesn't come of can stay on, wrap headers in cling film then paint engine, I used a type of smooth hammerite, it smelt a bit on getting hot but has stayed on.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: FZ6 extended clutch slave lever
« on: 15 September 2015, 08:59:41 pm »
I doubt if there is such a thing, if you want one because the clutch is heavy to use it may just need oiling. To do this get a plastic bag, disconnect the cable from the handlebar lever, cut a corner out of the bag just enough to get the nipple through then tape it to the cable outer to form a funnel. Put some light oil in the funnel and leave for a while, (tie it up) moving the inner cable too and frow will help, this can be done from the other end, or you could buy a cable oiler.

Was talking to a guy today and he was saying that the police can do you for riding with only one hand on the bars i.e. when you're in a 30mph zone and "having a rest" one hand on throttle and other on your leg/tank etc. I said when I took my test you had to use hand signals, so you had to ride one handed, any one heard of this?

The later FZ6s have more power so should be a "better" bike, I've had my 05 (reg. 06) from new, done over 44,000 miles on it, At one point I was over 17 stones down to 14 now, It still  had 139 on the clock last week, on a private road of course, and if it had been a bit longer I think it would have gone faster? the suspension can reach its limit but it all adds to the fun on the back lanes, lol. I was offered around £1000 for mine but dealers don't want old bikes with high milage think I would get upto £1500 private? or am I dreaming?

General / speeding?
« on: 05 September 2015, 06:19:52 pm »
Has anyone been done for speeding by the police helecopter?
I was followed into Helmsley this afternoon, don't know when it started following us but I was playing catch up as I had got caught up in traffic? I was sticking to the limit in the town but before that I may have been a tad over 60 or even 2 tads?
when I was in the market place I could hear it above me and all the people were looking skywards.
It watched us park up then flew off, a few minutes later a police car arrived but didn't stop. now what I want to know is do they have to tell you at the time or can they sent a summons through the post. I think it would be a court job, well you know why, would like a first hand reply as when you google it some say they do and some say they dont? thanks. P.S. you can send me a PM if you wish

I've had a quick look on ebay (completed listings) and post 1937 (non silver) in fine or mint condition can get 1 or two pounds each, a job lot of 60 two shilling coins made £1.90 + £3.30 P&P (less fees 14%ish), might be worth a go say lots of 10 coins you might have some rear ones?

yes you've got it wrong YamFF lol,  the two shilling coin or florin was the first decimal coin i.e. 10 to the pound, so a shilling is twenty to the pound 6d, or six pence,  known as a tanner, 40 to the pound, a penny 240 to the pound.
Have a look on ebay to see what they are selling for?

General / Re: Tyre wear
« on: 02 September 2015, 08:25:31 pm »
The wear might be because the forks need re-aligning, I was getting uneven wear on my other bike this was pointed out at the MOT after looking on line I found this and did it. the wear is much more even now and the bike feels much better in the corners, before it turned to the left easier than the right? It only takes less than an hour to do and the number of pot holes in the roads now maybe it should be part of the service?

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Are you sitting comfortably? - 'cos I'm not!
« on: 31 August 2015, 11:18:36 am »
I was on the bike yesterday for about an hour and a half, only stopped once to take a photo, 5 mins. max. I was OK, I think it's best to stop if you start getting numb-bum, on a good ride out might do upto 180 miles over 6 or 7 hours with coffee and food and fuel stops so getting a bit sore at the end of the ride.
Not done any 3 hour + motorway non-stop for years now but they're the worst? so stop even if it's only for a few moments and stretch your legs.

« on: 16 August 2015, 10:07:32 pm »
my 2006 FZ6N has 43,300 miles on now. most of the time I'm riding with 1000cc sports bikes, so to say it gets a bit of stick would be an under estimation, It gets an oil and filter change every year or 5,000 miles, chain lubed every week, bike cleaned with insect remover and WD40 to get chain lube off the a polish with Mr Sheen.
Changed the coolant, fork oil and brake fluid last winter and put new spark plugs and air filter in, greased swing arm and rear shock.
I would think it's worth £1500 ish but mileage puts people off, if it was a car it would have very low miles? bikes that are stood for years without being used I would stay away from.
Most cars do 100,000 miles + so why not bikes.
