FZS600 Fazer / Re: cleaning front brake disc bobbins / rivets?
« on: 03 November 2015, 02:55:20 pm »
Cleaning the bobbins should make a bit of difference, it has done on a couple of mine in the past when I had pulsing brakes. Cleaning the calipers is always recommended, but sticky pistons are not a cause of pulsing at low speed.

You can tell if they need it if the disk is solid and doesn't move at all, or if there is a grating noise with minimal lateral movement of the disk.

Nut and bolt through the bobbin with loads of brake cleaner when you start turning. Keep going until the bobbin is free, but don't be tempted to use a drill like I've seen in the past.

Patience and cleaner is the key!

+1 to pretty much all these hints, tips and techniques.
I'd also say hi-vis for every commute, and you can get some pretty practical/Gucci vests nowadays, just as long as it doesn't say 'POLITE' on the back! They're on the verge of being outlawed, and the wearers deserve a shaking of the head and a wagging finger in their direction. >:(

+1 for using your sat nav, or phone Speedo app.

I got a Speedo healer for my gen 2 but still had to use my phone app to check it was where I wanted it. And if all things it was only accurate in one area of speed, it just moved the error elsewhere.

I've always bought H-G kit as it's very good value for money in comparison to other brands, and the kit works!

The website seemed to go down hill when they closed the shops, good to see its back on track again.

What Muffs are you using Steve. I'm struggling to get mine to fit over the brake reservoir
Oh and Happy Birthday

Thanks for the birthday wishes bud.

As for the muffs, I've been using these. Cheap and cheerful but I've just about managed to fit them to every bike in one way or another.

I did what fireblake did with a coathanger . Used the same muffs for the last 13 years and they've been fantastic. Warm, dry hands in the winter whilst wearing summer gloves. Fantastic bit of kit if you fit them properly!

I've used plastic sheets before on one bike and I'll never do it again! One windy night is all it took to take the paint off in a couple of areas.
I ended up putting the sheet over and using bungees around the wing mirrors, and another around the tail piece to stop it rubbing on the paint.
I've got a chap who lives down the road from me who has a kind of bike 'tent' on his drive with a metal frame, padlocks and all sorts of security. It looks sturdy. and he's had it a good few years. Might be worth looking into as an alternative to covers.

« on: 24 October 2015, 08:50:06 am »
It all depends on if they can be seen or not!  Most cops won't stop you for small indicators. And your MOT dude would have to be a right RS to fail you for them!

There are rules in the construction and use regulations somewhere with regards to size, gap apart, lens configuration etc...
Get a mate to follow you with them fitted, and ask if he can clearly see them, that's usually the best way.

I've got a Gerber suspension that I use for work, not bad at all for £25, and I'm not too arsed if I lose it at that price. I broke the pliers on it a couple of years ago, and Gerber sent me a new one out without question!

Still got one of the original leatherman tools I bought in Bosnia circa 1995 that comes out with me as it hasn't got a lock blade.
Lock knives are a big no-no in the UK, don't get caught carrying it!

« on: 20 October 2015, 12:11:51 am »
That sounds like a recommendation to me. Dog tags it is then.
There's something comforting about putting as much information on these ice tags as physically possible though.

Now the question is, are these usb type  ice tags any use to the medical professionals? Or just a gimmick?

My bro-in-law has used both the gt and the standard one in his Tuono, he said it was only wear rate that separated them. Didn't get any splitting in either of them though.

medics may not pay too much attention to it as the helmet could have been borrowed from somebody else.
I wonder if the same view would be taken for emergency contact information?
Not saying the ICE tag is a bad idea, just wondering what info the emergency services need (to be sure they are calling the right family) before they make a phone call.

Speaking from experience, they (ES)  generally get their heads together before they give any intimation to next of kin, checking bike registration, who its insured to, and any other ID carried on the person. If it don't match, they're generally careful to what they do. Can't understand why some people go out without ID really, it's bonkers when you think about it!

As for borrowing helmet with the ice thingy attached, I never thought of that, as I don't lend my lid out, but others out there might do it!

And as for blood groups, well as far as I know ambulances put plasma in if your leaking that badly (i'm sure one of our medical guys on here will know better.) It's really on the ice tag so they can call it in to the hospital and prep it saving precious time. My missus has a rare blood group and can only take that particular type apparently.

I'm beginning to think dog tags are the best way really with all this in mind.

Just thought about cold tearing too, now the temps have dropped a bit.
Had a continental contimotion go the same way when I first fitted it. As it was only the very surface that was splitting I just kept an eye on it, and manged to wear the tyre out without it getting worse.

Yeah, I normally wear a dog tag because of my allergies to certain drugs, but I do occasionally forget to put it on. This little gadget is permanent. And it's not like the paramedics can miss it in a hurry.

Anyone got one of these on a work helmet?
Possibilities for bike helmet fitment?

Got them on my R1 at the mo.

Feckin good tyres for thrashing around on!
Great lean angles, and only let go when I got a bit ham fisted mid bend.

As for wear, dunno. They're quite new.

I'd recommend em, old design or not!

With fitting muffs, sometimes you've got to get a bit creative to get them to work.

Nothing beats muffs though  :)

You can't beat muffs. Had the same pair of cheapo muffs for about 13 years and fit them every winter.

I just wear summer gloves on my commute, and my hands are toasty. I don't even have to use my heated grips as they get too hot with muffs!

As for tights and stockings??????

Hold ups are better as there's no straps to chafe round your backside or get in the way of your thong.

Just read the op. Hands up if you feel stupid! (that'll be just me then :-[ )

I thought analogue tachos were a thing of the past 8 years ago when I stopped driving class 1 trucks. Still a few of them about obviously.

Ask for the photo evidence?
Yep, get all the evidence together first, then work it out to see if your right.

You might just have a case here!
