Not sure how to describe the tight feeling but clearly your issue isnt the same as mine just the same thing cause it, get a video up :)

sounds the same as mine, mine was about 3-5k then pretty much gone at 5k, if you give it a handful of beans up to about 90 does it feel like the engine is a bit tight so to speak?

does it only start when hot?

mine was only when hot about 4-5 miles gentle riding and would only happen about 3.5k but dissapear if i get to about 50mph 6th gear revs whatever that was and would only return if i open throttle a bit quick.

eventually sounding like this

Perception is everything.

So you don't have a useful comment then.

set of 98 fzs 600 pillion hangers
crash bars from my 98 fzs 600, i would say rare as i can't find a better pic on google lol.

hangers: £10 + £5 post
crash bars £15 +£5 post
complete engine in 1 piece £60 (collection only)
mileage 44k ish with service book stamped up to about 40k worked perfectly fine until it started to rattle, needs starter cover as it has a silver one on it now, oil filter, oil filter gasket and bottom end noise fixing aswell as 2-3 plugs putting on as i had to pinch them for my 03 engine.
this is worth more in parts but i dont have the time.

engine comes with:
complete top end that is perfectly fine
complete bottom end which has a rattle
sprocket
all casings which are fine (except the silver starter cover which is not black its silver lol)
carb rubbers

« on: 18 October 2014, 12:55:04 am »
Why did you fit the new engine, and then drain the oil?  After a bit of extra weight lifting practice?

Sounds like a shit of a job to do, I hope I don't have to do it to mine.  65,000 miles in so its got a bit of life left yet!

it was easier to dump the oil with the engine up in the air so to speak rather than doing it on the floor lol :D

FZS600 Fazer / fzs 600 engine change, its done :)
« on: 16 October 2014, 05:28:54 pm »

Now ive had a days rest its write up time..

Day 1:
I took a friend upup on the offer of a 2003 engine  with 23k miles on it and he agreed to deliver it, he turned up on a lovely soaking wet pissing it down day and helped load it into the l200 and off i went..

first task was remove the old engine...

so much had to come off it was unreal.. took me a whole day to take off the parts to get the engine out but i ran out of time and couldn't be bothered after smashing my hands to bits...

ended up removing all rad hoses, coils, many plugs, radiator, engine mounts, obvious seat and tank, rear side panels due to wiring and exhaust...

day 2:
set about removing the engine only to find the carbs had to come completely out just moving them didn't work and this took ages!! an hour later it was free... then had to remove thermostat housing and oil filter as there was next to no room to move it...

after much pissing around and lifting and pulling it finaly gave up and came out... at this point i didn't see the point in the engine mounts!

new engine time.. dragged new engine and this was a royal pain in the arse!! the bit the oil filter screws onto kept catching the frame.. trying to hold up and engine whilst wiggling into a hole barely big enough seemed impossible but it eventually popped in and i set about rebuilding..

went together fairly well until i hit the airbox and carbs... bit of oil on the rubbers the carbs went in no problem.. the airbox on the other hand, 45 minutes later i admitted defeat and went to bed.

Day 3:
First thing i did was attack the airbox, it had to be done.. rather than doing the easy bits first i wanted it out the way so i got a jack handle and beat the living daylights out of it until it eventually popped on :D :D :D :D

now to tackle the front engine mount again.. 3 bolt holes in a triangle formation... do they all line up.. do they heck! half hour of bashing moving lifting and smashing my knuckles i went mad and ripped my crash bars off snapping both bolts for the crash bars.. clearly wouldn't of helped in a crash!! the holes finally lined up :D

now all i had left was to empty the old oil, cut off and change some plus as they changed a few plugs on the 2003 engine and reconnect radiator and hoses + exhaust...

Rad on no problemo... hoses easy! exhaust... nope.. wouldnt do up properly then i noticed the biggest ballache possible..

how did i not see this before... so off it went and got drilled out and replaced..

went to bed had eough!!

Day 4:

new shiny stud and the exhaust went on :D

oil drained out of the new engine...

New oil filter and topped up with oil and water moment of truth...

Battery is dead :D :D :D

charged battery take 2... not firing... trace wires back and eany meany miny mo... changed 2 round and we have a spark.. started up for about 5 seconds then died, tried again and idled fine just a little rough, took about 10 minutes to warm up then sounded great untill i noticed a pool of water.. ffs!!

Rad hose was leaking, took it off changed it and still leaking... took it off again and its still leaking... gloves are off!!! final time new longer hose super tight and its done!!!

Topped water up and let it idle for 10 minutes with no problems, rode it home absolutely perfect except the gear lever being a bit too high!

A job which id allotted 1-2 days on ended up taking 4 due to many small things being an absolute pain and taking much longer than they needed to! hindered by the horrible weather and stupidly tight bolts.

i now have a 2003 engine with around 23000 miles on it :D all thats left is to get the front fairing resprayed AGAIN! then put the stickers on.

Done engine change from a 98 fzs 600 to 2003 fzs 600... downpipes come off nicely but dont seem to fit the 03 properly, 2 are blowing and other 2 only just fit... is it just me

So fitting new engine to 98 fzs 600  :D an hour trying to get the airbox on and no joy! Tried lots of lube and i get 2/4 at best... is there a way to get them on easier than brute force and a long bar

Im slightly nervous about doing it though, ive done full rebuilds on single cylinders and even truck engines but never done a big bike engine, i blew the bottom end on my old zxr 750 and got as far as the cylinder head off to inspect and gave up.

I do have a friend whos helping me do it, hes a god of bikes but hopefully this isn't too hard to swap over.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Swingarm failure - torque arm mounting point
« on: 21 September 2014, 03:12:41 am »
Powdercoat could hide anything, as above maybe it was too tight, suppose you might get away with making a bracket and drilling the swingarm if youre feeling brave...

This is why i kept the original torque arm.

I was going to fit a new bottom end as theres like 5000 on ebay for <£90

but a guy not far from me has an 03 fzs engine with only 23k miles fsh and valves just been done for £250.

for peace of mind i think im going to replace the whole engine, my fzs is currently on its 2nd engine with unknown mileage so the top end may well be almost dead too.
