I got a small discount from Opie for being a member of the Vintage M/C & I think it is also offered for membership of the Velocette Owners Club, but it was worth far less than the annual membership fees!

Cookstown 100 NOT on ITV but BBC1 N.I. tomorrow night at 10.40. I think BBC NI are also showing North West 200 highlights this coming Fri., Sun. & Mon.

I've got a Satan's adapter and 2006 R1 shock on my Gen2. Basically the 04-06 shock is fine for lighter weight riders (160-190 lbs with gear) and the 07-08 is good for 190-210lbs. The adapter does raise the ride height by about .5 inch which improves the turn in but makes it a little harder to hoist it onto the centre stand.
Richard (Satan) was working on an adapter for shocks from the flat plane engined R1s but I think it may mean relocating the Rec/Reg. Check out the thread at http://www.yamahafz1oa.com  for more info.

According to the FZ1-S/ FZ1-SA owner's manual " The shock absorber assembly is equiped with a spring preload adjusting ring and a rebound damping force adjusting screw." Preload is on the top of the spring and the rebound damper screw is below the spring (there is no compression damping adjuster).
Probably wrong but I can't think of any reason why you can't fit the shock upside down though- Ducati have the shock almost horizontal. It may even run cooler with the damping further away from the exhaust...

I have had them on my gen2 for a couple of years, fantastic in cold or wet, actually they are boxed up and forsale now

I second that. I've got Barkbuster Storms on my gen2 . No problems with them hitting the screen and they keep your hands toasty & dry.

Looks a lot like the PZracing gear indicator which is also made in Italy. Don't know what a DLC port is but if its the same as the wiring for the PZR it is true plug & play only £30 cheaper!

Just been looking at the Eurosport schedule and they list live coverage for MotoGP Qatar on 26th March. Thought this was only available through BT sport- am I missing something here??

Yep, learned my lesson and now I spray it into the cap and paint it on with a brush. Just love that smell though and the fact that you can see exactly where you've applied it.

Last time I sprayed ACF50 around the downpipes it smoked like a chip shop fire and took ages to burn off- never again. Almost as big a mistake as getting it on the seat.

« on: 16 February 2017, 09:01:18 pm »
As far as I remember the rear most fittings go on the indicator brackets and the indicators have to be relocated on the rack. I think you can fit the side frames with a tail tidy though.
Rob

Just been and checked. The pannier frames attach at the indicator points, the rack doesn't. So you can fit the rack with your tailtidy but not the pannier frames.
Whatever though you will need to cut the under tray to fit the big bracket that attaches to the rear sub frame.

I went with 2 lines- fewer joints, fewer opportunities to leak.

In the instructions it does say that if there is a tight spot you should use that point to set the slack. I must admit I still double check with a steel rule.
Mine was a well meant xmas pressie so I can't complain.

Sorry to resurrect this but yes, I use a chain monkey and no- you can't trust the instructions to give you the perfect amount of slack. Once you've got it calibrated though it's very reliable with repeatable results. Is it worth £24?? maybe if you've got several bikes.

General / Re: Severely split pipe
« on: 22 January 2017, 09:21:21 pm »
If it is the fuel tank breather pipe it should have a white band round it that lines up with the bracket. If not someone's maybe swapped the airbox breather and the tank breather?? AFAIK the airbox breather exits by the gearbox sprocket cover.
If you use s/s braided hose you might want to protect anything it might rub against.

Instead of a Nitron etc. shock you might think about fitting a Satan R1 shock adapter and an R1 shock- much better quality shock and plenty available on fleabay. There is also the added advantage of a slight increase in ride height which sharpens the steering a bit.

Put the bike on its centre stand, take off the two side panels, undo the rear brake reservoir & swing it out of the way and you've got good access to the top nut and bolt.  I think its easier to remove the shock from the bottom and don't missplace the 2 "top hats" that fit into the frame. If it's too tight for space you might have to move the rec/reg out of the way- but thats unlikely.

Thanks for the advice Devilsyam.
I chose to use a right hand and left hand thread so I could adjust it without having to remove the linkage, I'd not given any thought to protecting the threads...
