When I quit working in 2015, I bro8ught home all of my personal tools, 48 years worth. I had nowhere to put them in the garage, so I bought a Halfords tool cupboard (6 drawers) and a top box to go on it (6 drawers). The drawers are all full. Kamasa socket set bought in 1970, a few remnants from spanner sets of the past - Britool/Geodore/Kennedy, all the stuff we made as apprentices, scribing blocks, vee blocks, toolmakers clamps etc, countless Allen keys, plus bearing pullers, hole punch sets etc etc etc. Ive managed to sell some of the measuring equipment recently, micrometres, morse taper sleeves, drill sets, precision squares. My 4 year old grandson loves it, hes straight in the garage and getting stuff out and Im chuffed to bits that he knows what a tool is called what it does, and how to use it (under close supervision)

That's brilliant.

I still have 2 sets of 1/4" imperial sockets I bought from Snap-on around 1985 as an apprentice. I dont use them much and any new stuff i buy tends to be Halfords professional stuff that has a lifetime guarantee too.

At the end of the day - in most towns & city's you have a choice of Halfords or Machine Mart. Both sell quality kit, Halfords Pro is better than Clarke/Draper etc. For intermittent use though Aldi can beat everyone hands down  :rollin :rollin :rollin

Oh well, with plenty of work at least you'll have your gas bill sorted. :lol

I was thinking of more bits for the garage lol.  :rollin :rollin :rollin
Nice :thumbup , you can’t have enough bits in the garage. If I won the lottery, the Snap On truck would be a regular visitor.

For me, Snap On have lost the plot. The quality of tools and support have dropped considerably over the last twenty years or so. I had heard that they have bought up any competition, put their brand mark on it and then sell an inferior tool at Snap On prices! I always have to laugh - any tools which are utilised a lot (spanners, pliers, sockets etc) are expensive, but occasionally you used to get a bargain (gasket punch set £11!). However, I am still using Snap On tools I purchased in the 80's - but I am anal about keeping them clean and in working order.

Haha - not gone yet.   :lol :lol :lol

Never thought you would :) . Thought you were still on holiday 8)

I wish - I've come back to more work than I can cope with! The best thing is, the pile just keeps getting bigger.

My Mrs not too happy with booking.com after a saga trying to book accommodation for my youngest grandson’s passing out parade at Dartmouth in December. Dealing with the owner is definitely the way to go.

I've come across several instances recently, where dealing with businesses directly, (and with cash) helps the world go round.

Might be after the phone number of who you booked with ;)

We went with booking.com, however, we met the owner of the apartments and he confirmed that these websites take about 15% off the money he receives  as administration fees. So we had a chat, and we're booking directly with him next year. I also discovered, booking.com is a Dutch site, so they're not even paying UK taxes!  :eek

Camping at Nevers for WSB at Magny Cours. 35 degrees no shade anywhere, had to buy a brolly ffs :lol

And there was me thinking I was bad for buying a hat LOL. Currently sitting in an air conditioned apartment  :lol :lol :lol , with cold beer at hand.  :rollin :rollin :rollin
Good job I didn't read your post whilst still in France as I think I would've died of jealousy :lol ......I need a holiday to get over my holiday :lol

And, just to upset everyone else - every beach we've been to has free parking. Cold bottles of water are around 50 cents and fizzy cans (Tango) are about 1 Euro. I really would struggle to holiday in the UK now. Our apartment (2 Bedrooms), fully kitted out plus air con has cost £650 for two weeks.

Is that on an excursion to Egypt. My pals sister used to be a guide there, until it got a bit tricky for westerners, Arab Spring, and all that.

No, it's not in Egypt. Its just outside Paphos and thinking about it, it may not be called the valley of the kings  :look :look
:groan Threw me a curve ball there :lol . One time we stayed at Paphos and you could take an excursion to Egypt by boat. Just remember those people that signed up for it got terribly seasick as it was mega rough. Enjoy your hols :thumbup

Lol - the place is called "Tombs of the Kings". Haven't been yet, it's currently averaging 34 degs in the day and about 26 degs at night.

Nice :thumbup . Been to Paphos a few times, but then gave the north a try maybe three or four times. Seem to have fallen into a habit of always going to southern Tenerife for quite a while now though. I think no doubt because we know exactly what we’ll get, and can’t afford to risk a disappointing holiday by trying an unknown destination to us. A ULEZ compliant car will more than likely be our holiday next year :'( :'( , just when I thought I’d be able to get a later/lighter bike.
Enjoy Cyprus :)

I/we will. Might visit Valley of the Kings. I think I've read somewhere they've found something different. Just looking forward to getting away for the first time since last May. (Apart from rallies and the occasional work related trip).

Cyprus, nice :thumbup . North or South?

South - it's quieter for UK tourists  :lol

Glad you enjoyed your first motoring vacation, despite a baptism of fire regarding parking charges and traffic jams. My cousin was at Camber Sands a few days back, where the beach car park charges £30 for the day, or any part of the day, so £30 for a few hours. Needless to say he parked further away in a pay and display.

And the destinations wander why they have no punters, what with exorbitant parking charges, clean air zones, high accommodation costs etc. We're going to Cyprus for two weeks - for less than a week in this country (and we'll have guaranteed sunshine lol).

Thankyou for putting this info up - I stand corrected (and I'll pass the message along).
Cue - the resurrection of ratty, rotten, rusty Transit minibus's, with religious connections painted all over the bodywork  :lol :lol :lol
Still feel sorry for you chaps though - along with Birmingham, Bristol & Bath, London won't be getting any of my money in it's economy.

ULEZ - I feel sorry for the people this is hitting, it really is an unfair tax. The other day that it would appear that Khan has exempted certain religious minorities from the ULEZ charge when they are on their way to a place of worship. I couldn't believe it, but a little research later and it appears that this is the case!

Having done a bit more research, I discovered that there are nearly 4 million Muslims in this country and only 3.4 million motorcyclists!

So, who's in the foccing minority?

Here is a cheap idea - Take the key and heat up a lot of candle wax. Cover the key completely with the hot wax. Leave to cool. Place in a freezer bag just to make sure.

Well, I am now officially a Cager  :car

It's a 2012 Skoda Fabia Mark 2 with about 81,000 miles on the clock and cost me just under £4000. I did try to haggle the price down a bit (just because I wouldn't have been satisfied if I hadn't ;) ) they didn't go for that, but they did chuck in a 15 month warranty for half price, so I was happy enough.

Today my partner and I were planning to go to a local pub for a meal, but, as we were driving up there, we noticed a lot of people with Portsmouth FC shirts on, so decided to go a bit further to a Toby carvery which was very nice indeed.

I still need to get used to the car as my control is a little dodgy eg the clutch/ accelerator balance and at some point I need to sit in it and read through the manual because there's a couple of things on the small LCD screen on the dash that I'm not sure what they mean. Also, at one point, I managed to switch on the rear windscreen wiper and then couldn't figure out how to switch the damn thing off again until I got us parked!

Oh well, anyway, in a few days I'll be driving it down to Croyde for a surfing holiday and then I can bring my boards back with me to use them down here over the winter :)

Glad you're sorted - nice long warranty as well.  :thumbup

I have a big shed, but I'd have to do any car maintenance on the road outside...  :rolleyes

Done that before - far from ideal. Pissing down with rain, changing a head gasket on a 1300 Allaggro.

Thanks.

Their garage said it could be a problem with a wheel bearing and they're looking at it at the moment.

I hope to hear back from them in the next couple of days.

There are times when I'm glad that I can tackle small jobs myself - and not leave it in the hands of a minimum wage mechanic at the garage. Having said that, the Chrysler is due MOT in September - just happens to be whilst we're on holiday abroad. So I've booked it in the day before we go and if its anything small, I'll leave it with them and let they can carry out the necessary at their leisure and it'll be ready when we get back. Should see 196K this week, made out of recycled babybels  :'( , what could possibly go wrong :rollin :rollin :rollin .

Is the Mrs. still catching the bus or have you sorted her some wheels yet?

Her son lent her a '60 plate Ford Focus - she quite likes driving it, except its not automatic.

Have you got your car yet Grahamm?

Not yet.

The Dealer wasn't sure how long it would take to get the things I mentioned previously fixed as local garages are pretty busy at the moment, so I booked the RAC inspection for the 24th (ie a week tomorrow)

But what I'm going to do is call the RAC again and see if they've got an earlier date and, if that's available, check if the car's back from the garage and try to move the inspection up a few days.

Lol - I maybe joining you in the hunt for a suitable vehicle (only this one is for the wife). Her SAAB died spectacularly a week or so ago and I don't really have the time to spend repairing it)  :rolleyes :rolleyes

Yep, as I thought. SAAB has gone to the big recycling centre in the sky - now looking for a second car for SWMBO.  :'( :'( :'(
