« on: 22 March 2012, 10:02:23 pm »
Anyone asked the tyre manafacturer as they should know what's best for their tyres. I have just emailed Bridgestone to find out. I am running

Front - battalax BT 45F
Rear - battalax BT O21R

These are what the bike came with. I am not sure if it is so good to use differing tyres !

Not that it helps but I can't either! It's

A- my shoulders
B- to far out so I can only see the pavement or the other side of the road.

Crap really
yes that was crap :eek
you can get set of mirrors off 2002/2004 600c or 1000cc as they are longer stalk so you will not see your shoulders in them  :rolleyes  and they will bolt  on without any mod to them  ;)

Well did say  :D looks you guys have helped me again. Anyone tried any small mods to prevent vibration ? Not to make another crap post but what is it that vibrates or is it due to the extra length at speed ?

Bridgestone say 36 - 36 for BT023

manual says 32 - 40  for over 90 kg which is me. although for me this does feel a little bit wobbly between 60-80.

http://www.bridgestonebikersclub.co.uk/fitting/#_frm-booking=step-2

It Would be handy to get a definitive but it looks like there is not one

When it comes to buying bearings or seals always take the old ones to a bearing supplier and not a dealer, they will be at least half price if not cheaper for exactly the same quality part, they are all standard sizes and probably in stock, my local bearing place is superb!

Name of supplier please

Stick with autosol. Put it on a sock and double rap it around the part and then pull each end of the sock to polish

I like the pic but the text speech was lazy with or with out word problems but the piss taking was a bit childish from the board. We are ment to make people feel welcome not flame them.

Poster has taken the time to take and share a photo.

Sling it on fleeBay when the weather gets warmer. Having looked it seems like June/July is the best time although some competition. Give it a good review with lots of photos pointing out the good and bad.

Big up the good points like service, low millage, condition, how it was stored and give it a good polish and ensure you photos are if focus. It sounds like it will sell it's self.

Keep the guys on here abreast when it's for sale as there maybe some intrest and point ebayers to this forum so they know what they are buying as we all love the Fazer and it let's people know independently it's a good bike.

I just did the direct access course and asked my instructor if the Fazer was a good first bike (I was worried it would be to big) but he said it would be perfect as it was not to small and not to mad. Point this out as well.

To be honest when people look at mine they always say ahhh....... the Fazer and then they talk about how it was there first big bike.....

The Spark plugs for the 98 fazer are Cr9e and I think this stays the same upto 2002 fazers!

Spark plugs for my 98 fzs600 are NGK CR8E - just got them today.
Somone better that me may say otherwise but would a blocked air filter cause these problems not enough air = too much fuel does it not
Have a look at my thread about not starting as somone said some interesting stuff about the choke - it may help http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,1402.0.html

I think you can use both although the NGK site says the CR8E

Hi guys,

Just done bike safe with the police which I can't recommend enough. Great blokes, great fun and I learnt loads.

Now to the point. I have a little up and down play in both the clutch and front brake levers. On the pull side they work fine but they do move up and down.

Is this simply a case of tightening up some screws/bolts or is it just age ? 1998 FZS 600.

Hi,

Called local Yamaha dealer who said use 3-in-1. Job done from the top end. Once it has been left to soak how do I get to the bottom end to mop any lube that has run through the cable? I have the workshop manual if anyone can point to the right page.

Any tips on how Reseat the throttle cables ? Although it did seem to find a natural place.

Cheers

Yes just spoke to my mate and that's what he recommends

As he explained it to me and I'm not technical either
is this. The helicoil is a spring. The cylinder is bored out ( this should be done with the head off in case any bits fall in) with the new thread that is now larger than the spark plug. The coil is now threaded into the hole and the plug placed in. I think maybe he was thinking of expansion/contraction and working loose.

He mentioned another method but I can remember the name. I think in effect you bore the hole out and put a new thread in. This in some way is a more permanent method.

Now that really was not a technical explanation. When I next talk to him I will get the better answer.

« on: 02 March 2012, 10:34:25 pm »
Having got a second hand set in good nick but not yet fitted. The outside seems to be thick rubber but the inside is a much harder rubber tube. It maybe or not that the outside shows signs of wear much before the inside thicker tube has any wear. Just my two pence worth having seen the inside of a set.

Having just lifted the tank could it be that I have snagged something ? I will lift again and check! I will make sure all things are clear but other than what's obvious anything else.

As a point of intrest when I lift the tank it leaks but it is a very full tank and I did not shut of the fuel.

Not to sound thick but in equal measures sounding think. We're is the cable at the carb end. I have both workshop and fazer manual. If I simply follow the cable would I find it there ? Now that really does sound thick.

Having spoken to a mate who does his own work he feels that a helicoil may not be best in an environment that generate this much heat. He feels that it is a good quick fix but he is also a perfectionist with mechanical work. This is not to dis the last post which is mucho appreciated. But there maybe others that won't to throw in there two pence worth.

To be a bit clearer. If I open the throttle and then let go if does not quickly snap back super quick.
When I open the throttle there is a bit of a lag for the engine to rev. This does seem to improve when the engine has fully warmed up.

I am out to do bike safe with the Po Po next weekend and want the bike to be in good order for that.

Ok so I'm all questions and no answers at the moment. The bike has been laid up over winter. Started on the button but the throttle is a little sticky. I will take it for a run this weekend but do you have any tips on a quick fix/lube for throttle cable ? Drop a bit of 3 in 1 ?.

I hope the run will loosen it up a bit anyway.

FZS600 Fazer / Spark plugs again
« on: 02 March 2012, 06:43:24 pm »
Ok I was going to post on the other thread but it was to long and mostly an argument. One of my plugs (plug 1) is in at a different angle if only slight. It maybe that the thread has been stripped. Now the bike runs as per normal with no blowing around the plug.

Question

Has anyone had to re- thread a plug hole and is it expensive. On the last thread the starter stated a plug had snapped in his! Did you have to re thread or did you get it out. Is there any point in re threading if no blowing and the bike runs like normal. ?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: What Threadlock?
« on: 28 February 2012, 09:55:59 pm »
Looks like you need blue thread lock

Not my research

Loctite do two main types of threadlock, Red grade which is semi-permanent (practically superglue - get the impact wrench out!!) and Blue grade (milder threadlock, breakable with a hand wrench).
Apparently the Blue stuff serves a dual purpose, one to protect the threads from corrosion and to prevent vibration and heat/cold from working the bolts loose over time.
