FZS600 Fazer / Re: Upshifts
« on: 19 August 2012, 07:32:50 pm »
Since the gearbox is a sequential box all the gears are spinning around at the same time, unlike in a car box where you have to spin up the next gear before selecting. Clutchless upshift is fine on a bike because of this, bit it can be done poorly if you dont practice. You'll find it will slot into gear alot easy at certain revs than others and should always be a slick, silent sounding gear change. If it grinds you've done it wrong! Downshifts with no clutch are a no-no (and practically impossible) and will result in damage. When I shift up I put a little pressure on the gear lever, a rock the throttle closed slightly (not fully closed just a few degrees back) and you'll simultaneously feel the gear lever click up into the next gear. You then accelerate as normal and whole thing takes a sec. Hope that helps!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Exhaust Replacement - End Can ?
« on: 18 June 2012, 02:48:30 pm »
is there any reason (other than mounting and link pipe fitting) that you couldn't fit an exhaust end can from another bike? I have seen a few 2nd hand scorion/arrow etc end cans going for good money but listed for other bike makes and models. Ideally I dont want to have to re-jet or anything (or spend alot of cash!)

to replace the chain means stripping the engine down to the crank as it is an all-in-one chain and not a split link (advised). definately not a quick or cheap job!

« on: 23 May 2012, 10:29:58 am »
it always helps to have someone hold the end can/silencer whilst you pop the front on the manifold. I just changed my gaskets and nuts this weekend as it was blowing from the front, very easy job. The copper grease to stick the gaskets in the manifold trick is a good one!

Once its aligned with the manifold you can put the rear bolts in (under the footpegs) to hold the exhaust in the right position whilst you torque up the new stainless nuts. If you use copper grease on the threads make sure to re-torque the nuts up a week later as they can sometimes slip a little in the first few days.

can anyone explain how the ignition mod from Nikko would work on a carb fuelled bike?? what electronics are there that affect fueling (like on fuel injected bikes)? Ta!

anybody want a set of 4 '99 plate fzs600 carb rubbers? taken off a breaker engine, in good condition with usual cosmetic 'cracking' outside appearance. No cracking through the rubber and still has lots of life left.

want to get rid so £30 seems fair for the lot (+postage of course)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: clicking pump after carb rubber change?
« on: 11 April 2012, 01:24:13 pm »
sounds to me like you have mistaken the fuel inlet from the filter/fuel pump for a breather hose. There is a rubber pipe that comes from the centre of the carb bank, usually covered with a reinforcing spiral of black plastic, that needs to be connected to the fuel pump. If this is not done then the pump will keep clicking when you turn the ignition. From memory there are only two breather hoses that come out the bottom of the carbs.

Talk to Deefer on here, I had an engine from him last year for good money and he is based near Kettering off the A14. He can normal fit it for you as well. Good luck!

is there any effect on fueling with these new cans? would the carbs need re-jetting or anything like that?

bit of a noob question but does the bike need the carbs adjusting/rejetting etc with a new exhaust like this?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Help! I may lose it.
« on: 09 December 2011, 11:22:52 pm »
i refitted my head and cam chain etc recently, checked everything over as per the 'book' but when pressing the starter nothing would happen. Turns out the timing was off by a couple of teeth making the whole thing impossible to turn over! moral? check the cam timing is spot on :D

FZS600 Fazer / Re: cam chain tensioner ?
« on: 02 December 2011, 09:48:44 am »
my advice if you do start tinkering: mark the cam chain links and corresponding tooth on each cam shaft so its easy to line up the chain and sprocket and get the timing spot on without too much hassle! Try resetting the tensioner first, then replace the cam chain. To do it properly you need to split the engine to loop it on the crankshaft sprocket at the bottom of the engine so be warned...
