« on: 26 April 2013, 11:23:35 pm »

The pedal has a spring attached which, in turn, pulls a pin inside the switch. This pin then creates a contact and turns the light on. Therefore, it you want the light to come on earlier you either need to shorten the spring (to pull the pin down a bit) or move the switch futher away.

You can move the switch futher away by winding the nut along the threaded section of the switch as the nut is supported on a bracket on the frame.

I'm interested in the extensions. Any pics?

You can adjust the rear sensitivity. As you press the pedal it pulls a spring which in turn pulls on the switch. The switch is in a case which has a thread around the outside and a plastic nut. By winding the case in or out of the plastic nut you can adjust when the light comes on.
Hopefully it will make sense when you find the plastic switch casing.

As I understand it Dot 4.0 and 5.1 are compatible so you'll be fine feeding the 5.1 through.

My old race bike (SV650 Minitwin) had DOT 5.0 in which isn't compatible but I needed to do something with my brakes at Snetterton and the only thing available was DOT 4.0. I flushed the system with 0.5 litre of DOT 4.0 then bled it up. Never had a problem after that.

You should be able to get the bars onto the lock stops and still ride the bike i.e. not trap your hands.

As demonstrated here by Andrew at the Prescott bike festival last weekend  :)

...then you can spend an extra £20 on the thou bracket too. I'm sure it should be a straight swap for the 600 bracket.

The thou has a larger diameter wheel spindle so the bracket isn't a straight fit. I figured that getting hold of a 600 bracket wouldn't be difficult if I wanted to put the standard one back on  to sell the bike.

In my experience they are the best thing ever and I've used them for road riding and racing.

Is the pinlock tight up against the visor? The mounting pins are cams so can be turned to ensure the insert is sealed against the visor. Are you sure there are no gaps between the insert and the visor?

One trick I was shown is to use a pair of pipe grips to bend the tabs over. They make life really easy and do a great job.

« on: 07 February 2013, 10:37:19 pm »
I knew of JHS when he was operating out of what was basically a shed & had a lot of respect. However, I went to the new place hoping for some help & advice setting up my SV650 Minitwin (I was intending to put some money their way). I was treated like a piece of muck on someone's shoe. I'd like to think it was a one off but I'm certainly not going to go back in a hurry.
I can't say that really like Fowlers sales but I've never had a problem with the parts counter. Although I do tend to go in with part numbers taken from a fiche so know exactly what I'm asking for.
I put my CBR6 into the Fowlers workshop for its first big service (16k) in Nov 1995ish & it came back like a new bike. My garage even smelled like a showroom for a week so I was very impressed until my mate put his FZR in for a similar service & it came back with a list of problems.
So, draw from these comments whatever you want to but in my experience finding a place you know & trust can be a very personal thing.

How cold was it? Could be water in the cable that has frozen.

My squidgys don't have holes but the soundears do to let the sound from the speaker through.

I've got some Ultimate ears, Squidgy and Soundears (http://www.ultimateear.com/motorcyclist.php). Not cheap but brilliant and so much easier to fit and more comfortable than foam plugs.
The only problem with the soundear is that the hole for the sound to come through is really small so can get blocked very easily.

I've got some for a Suzuki DL650 and couldn't get them to fit.

I then tried some oxford muffs and didn't like the way they fitted over the switch gear so I now have tucano urbano muffs and they're great.

Doesn't really answer the question but I posted a picture in the following thread that shows the difference in sweep angle of my Renthals.

It's been a long time coming but I finally got round to fitting the sprockets and have done a couple of hundred miles on them now. For around town and commuting on dual carriageways its great. They have taken the revs in top gear at 60mph to 5700rpm from 5000 so it does make the bike a bit more buzzy but has given it a bit more punch without having to rev it too hard.

For my commute and low speed work it has definitely made it nicer for me.

With regards to number2 in Grahamm's post I can recommend the myfitnesspal app for smartphones. Makes it very easy to track calories in & out.

JJ39, those are what the Japanese call sports bumpers. Andrew, the chap that runs Motogymkhana has a set on his Fazer that he picked up on a fact finding mission to Japan. They are very good but retail at around £500.

One of the Motogymkhana competitors has just had a set custom made for his Z750R by RawSteel Choppers and the chap that made them has said that he can make some for any bike for £299.99

I don't know if this is any use but this photo is of my standard FZS600 bars, then Renthal 754s (which are 5mm wider than 755s) and a pair of motocross style bars that a fellow Foccer gave me:

Givi Wingracks were available for the FZS but I think the fitting kits are quite difficult to find now. I recently took a load of photos of mine for a fellow foccer that was intending to fabricate something so I can let you have the pictures if they're any use to you.
