Have more than 80000 kms with three 8 mm one. Not saying you shouldn't, but can live without the change...

Well as long as yours is okay, we'll just ignore the horror stories and countless discussions we've had on here about upgrading the nut shall we?
For all you know yours could be fused on like mine was?
Other people have checked and either found threads stripped or no nut at all.

It's worth changing........but I agree I'd do chain and sprockets at the same time.

The main problem with the nut is overtorquing. The 8mm nut is fine IF it isn't overtorqued. Because most bike shops use airguns, the nuts end up with too much strain on the thread, which then strips the shaft. The 10mm nut spreads the load better, and has less chance of damaging the shaft if bolloxed up.

9mm & 12mm matey  ;)

I'd still call 'em up direct and put them on the spot, "saw a set on Ebay for £130" and go from there.  I got these gaskets from Ebay for £5, just make sure the flanges are clean and not caked with crud, any pressure on the gaskets with a screwdriver when trying to seat them and you'll put a big dent in them, they're only thin.

I called up Motad direct a few months go and told them I'd seen a set go on Ebay for £125, they said "No Problem".  I paid on the phone and the pipes arrived 2 days later.  Awesome service!

Looks like it was the Oximiser charger...the multimeter showed that both batteries were around 12V but the Oximiser was showing 3.5V and the warning light was on.  FUBAR!

I bought an Optimate 4 at lunch and it's now charging fine...happy days! (sort of)

Oh and I bumped into Punkstig in the shop as well...small world.

So I see...

What a pile of shite, I didn't check the voltage after filling up and leaving for an hour but it can't have been the 12V it should've been, hence the charging failure.

I'll contact the supplier to see what they have to say.

Thanks for the advice.

Nope, in the house.

I watched a few vids and it says to keep the caps off for the first charge.  Doh! I filled up, waited an hour, pushed the caps on THEN charged.  I think there may be a build up of gas which is stopping the charge.  I'll take another look tonight, with gloves, facemask, labcoat and a perspex sheet.

Morning chaps...

My old battery (bought with the bike about 4 years ago) was always a bit dodgy and didn't like standing for more than 3 weeks without being used.  I charged it again with my Oximiser 900, it was reading around 12V when I plugged it in but in the morning it was reading 3.6V and the red warning light was on...FUBAR I thought.  I bought a new Yuasa YT12B-BS, filled it up, waited an hour for the plates to soak and left it overnight on the Oximiser.

Went and checked this morning and it's on 3.8V and AGAIN the red warning light is on!!!  WTF!!

This leads me to a frustrating set of conclusions.

1) The Oximiser is shite/broken.  Means I've bought a new battery for no reason and maybe damaged it?
2) The Oximiser is only to be used to trickle/maintain batterys but not for the initial charge....seems an insane decision.
2) The new Yuasa is duff...can't really see how, it's a box with metal plates and sulphuric acid.

The Yuasa says to charge at 1.2A for 5-10h but the Oximiser only does 900mA, could this be the problem?  Is it just too weak a charger to initially charge this battery?  I don't really want to buy another charger in case it's the battery and vice-versa.

I'm not sure what to do next, any advice?

Cheers...Buzz

so I guess if I was testing for water that would have given me a false postive.
any way you know of to check the tank?

Darrsi swears by adding 200/300ml of isopropyl alcohol to every other fill-up to absorb any water...will also prevent any carb icing in the winter.

Only issue I had was that the fuse box lid wouldn't close.  No biggie it seems as it's protected from any water ingress by the seat.

4 quid? Can get 'em for £2:b

10GB a month? That's not much really. Virgin slow down my connection for the rest of the day if I go over 5GB in a day but they only slow it down from 60Mb to 10Mb so I tend not to notice when it happens :rollin

And yes, it is easy to hit 5GB in a day of you download a software DVD or two from Microshaft.

Virgin stopped throttling on downloads a while ago, it's unlimited now.  The only thing they throttle on is uploads, the threshhold for a 60Mbit connection is 1.3 Gigs in 2 hours ...you'd be going some to exceed that (unless your upload speed on Bit torrent is set to max)

I removed the rad and dremelled the rusted nuts off (2 cuts on each in a wedge shape then a cold chisel to tap and turn).  Didn't even try soaking or turning them as the middle 4 were rusted solid.  Replaced with brass domed nuts with some copper slip, ready for when I could get some Motads.

Fitted the new pipes on Sunday and they sound and look frickin' amazing!

You can easily fit an external mic to the SJ4000 as well, looks like a bargain....might even get one for my 20 miles a day commute.

FZS600 Fazer / DIY fix for broken brake switch
« on: 27 July 2014, 12:57:06 pm »
Mornin'

After going through 3 brake switches (2 aftermarket, 1 genuine) in 18 months I decided to fix my latest after it stopped working yesterday.  The problems I've had are all because of the soft plastic used in the activator peg that's pushed in and out by the lever, it always flattens out and eventually stops working.  I took a small nail, filed off the edges with my dremel, cut it to size and the switch is now working perfectly again.  I know people will say "oh just buy another one, it's only a tenner" but with my metal peg replacement it should last forever.

Cheers..Dan

A solution for lower and more forward pegs was posted a while ago.  I keep meaning to do it, I bought the metal bar in Feb but it's still sitting in the garage!

Oh I know...it's just that changing to Chrome would be a much easier fix that sorting out the scourge that is IE.  People have to be told!!!  :lol

Ditch IE, it's a bloated piece of crap and always has been. Use Google Chrome, you'll be amazed at how much faster it is.  With it you can use things like Ad Blocker, I've not seen an advert on Youtube for years.

Afternoon,

I think I need to go shopping for some new summer gear as I can't take any more.  When it's over 25 my padded textiles turn into a sweat pit after 2 mins of riding, even in a T-shirt and Y-fronts, I don't want to wear leathers so what gear have you lot got that gives you protection but doesn't bake you like a potato?

Cheers...Buzz

Hey fella,

I remembered that another user (Macca4786) had a similar problem with their Idle Adjuster doing nothing, turned out it had completely unscrewed from the carbs.  He managed to screw it back in without taking the carbs off, much to everyone's surprise!

Yep, and if the bike has been left for a while then it's best to turn the key on an off a few times after the clicks have finished.  The pump stops after a while so if the levels are really low then they still won't be full after the first turn.
