758 ultra lows according to the old site. Jake dimensions are given in most renthal adverts on ebay, get a tape measure and knock yourself out!

It might be worth ringing round specialists asking about rebuilding your shock with the right spring for you. IIRC brook suspension in Bradfords had some good noises made about his oe rebuilds. New oil and a re-gas (that right?) and it'd feel a marked improvement after 10 years of the oil getting more and more like cappucino...

IIRC when i looked at a trx shock the spring was about half that of the standard fzs600s shocks spring rating(14.7kg/mm) so it'd be serously under sprung. Annonyingly racetechs site lists spring rates front and back and what weight that spring is correct for, for pretty much every bike EXCEPT the fazer. I took my Nitron (it came from a vfr400...) in to be re-sprung for me and it came back with a 900lb/inch (16.11kg/mm) spring put on so we can assume 16.11 is right for an 11ish stone rider so you'll want a spring even stiffer than that.

Get a Nitron if you can. I'm sure the Hagon will be an improvement but i've never known anyone be dissapointed with a Nitron.i know even the basic one is a fair wedge of money but also the Nitron will have decent re-sale value if you sell the bike on. At just under 11 stone ifound the stock forks springs far too soft especially considering the power of those bluespots. Definitely worth putting in stronger fork springs imo.  Probably about .9 or .95 kg/mm rated linear springs if you're 12 stone.

Apaprently the fazer and thundercat really dont share that many parts. It isn't actually a detuned t-cat engine at all. Sort the midrange? Its got bloody loads for a 600 personally i'd like just a bit more at the top! Also what full exhaust? Is it a proper race system or just an oe style one but in stainless?

Bear in mind you'll effectively make your rear spring softer (not really you're changing the linkage ratio but anyway...) and it'll want to lean over further on the sidestand. Get the projection components one they give you 4 options i settled on +10 before i got a new shock.

def the best option  ;)

jacking up actually makes ur suspention stiffer

Shorter thing so less leverage. Yeah you're completly right, oops.

I'm using pilot powers but have heard universal praise for the pilot 3's, particularly in the wet. The pilot powers are fine for £175 a pair, the rear wore out a bit quickly about 4k miles but the fronts still going and to be fair that did include a trackday at Cadwell where their grip still excedeed my bravery. On my second pair now this time with a 120 front and 3.5" wheel to match which is to be fitted soon. Will report back if its an improvement...

FZS600 Fazer / Bearings
« on: 08 March 2012, 03:46:47 pm »
In need of new head and rear wheel bearings for an Fzs 600. Doing a search on here i found that "bike bearings" site someone suggested for the thou but they don't list head bearings for the 600.... From wemoto i'm looking at about £50 all in if anyone could help me better that or has any exerience of the quality of them etc

Cheers

Probably a waste of money because they run rich as standard. Get a dyno run done and look at what the air fuel trace is telling you.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Hyperpro spring kit
« on: 05 March 2012, 05:09:31 pm »
Way over my head that last post.. anyhow just a quick update i went for the hyperpro kit and if any one is interested it came with 20w oil.

Basically i was wanting to know what weight spring is best for the Fazer's shock for 11 stone me. Unlike forks where you'd use pretty much the same rating spring for the same rider regardless of bike the right shock spring for say a 10 stone rider will be different from one bike to another.

As it turns out i took my Nitron in to be re-sprung for me and according to an Ohlins book they had it needed a 925lb/inch or 16.5kg/mm. It was actually wearing a 725lb spring which would explain why it felt so soft. The standard shock wears a 14.7kg/mm spring which would suggest the standard shocks only sprung right for people who weigh less than 11 stone.

I hope this makes sense.

Don't know about your's but my gear selector arm and the linkages have a load of slack in which won't help. If i wasn't putting rearsets on soon i'd be using some washers to try and take the slop out of it.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Hyperpro spring kit
« on: 05 March 2012, 04:44:15 pm »
Sadly the chart explains the obvious solution, but the springs you can buy for the Fazer are not linear, they are all (as far as I'm aware) dual rate progressives. Still, it would be fairly easy to fit a set of 1.0kg/mm springs from another bike with 41mm forks with a bit of investigation.

The Hagon / Hyperpro replacement springs are progressive, meaning they have about two thirds of the spring with loose / wide coils & the final third with coils very close together. Effectively it's a dual-rate spring that is a one-size-fits-all solution, and so can be roughly equivalent to 1.0kg/mm springs. Most suspension shops won't touch progressive springs as they are difficult to fine-tune, particularly for racing / trackdays. For road use however, they are fine.

Raising the forks up through the yokes will improve the handling but reduce ground clearance & the amount of travel the fork has. I suspect you're being asked to do this to allow more weight over the front-end. I take it you have to either fit heavier fork oil or change the height of the fluid inside the fork to compensate?

Fit a cable tie first so you can see how much travel is being used up. I would start @ 5mm, then if ok go to 10mm, then 15mm if you still have a safe amount of fork travel left.

I got mine from Firefox Racing they're linear K-tech .85kg/mm. IIRC they're the same fit as for the early Hornet 600.

I had a lowside on a roundabout the crash bung took pretty much all the damage. Course there's horror stories about them catching kerbs and flipping the bike causing more damage. Basically if you have a crash there's gonna be damage, because of my experience i'll use crash bungs i think it'll cost me less.

Sort out your fork springs before getting any more out of the brakes imo. I found the blue spots completely overwhelmed the front end even before i'd got more bite from stainless hoses and ebc hh pads.

as above, also consider a pair of crash bungs to minimise impact of any future whoopsie's..

Find out for certain how rich and where in the rev range by getting an afr run done on a dyno?

Exactly. Sort of wish i'd bought a "basic" Nitron sport for about £350 supplied with the right spring instead of going mad and buying a second hand NTR track shock (higher spec more adjustment more expensive) from eBay intended for a Honda Nc30 which i now need to remove to get repsrung and then setup. Ah well it'll be worth it when its done...

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Suspension upgrade advice

Preload doesn't increase the springs stiffness just how much they initially compress. Don't bother with Hagon as they're progressive and a one size fits all "solution". Linear forks springs in the front probably 0.85 or .9kg/mm along with that Nitron which will come correctly sprung and setup for you.

MASSIVE WEIGHT SAVING STOCK SYSTEM IS DOUBLE SKINNED .stock  down pipes /colector weigh 4 kg silencer is similar weight  cant be bothered to dig it out at the mo will post the weight later

Cheers, so even the generic aftermarket stainless ones that are just oe replacements give a decent weight saving?

83.5 just the full micron system & 116 DG MAIN

93 with modified micron system & K&N

Modified how? Seriously another 10bhp, with the same dyno and similar conditions?
