I don't actually have anything uploaded by I tried that button on mine and it should link to the following:

http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_upload

Try hitting that directly and see if it works.

It wouldn't be Java - although similarly named there's a difference between Java (which is rarely used except on some odd ball stuff like speed testers) and JavaScript, which is commonly used on almost all sites.

Suggest disabling any add-ons (add blockers etc in particular) clearing cache etc. And if you're using Internet Explorer try in Firefox or Chrome instead.

Otherwise Lewis might be the guy to ask as he has a pretty good channel.

Make sure you post a link once you have it working - can never have too many bike videos!

PS) Is it doing nothing at the stage where you're actually uploading the video? I.E. have you selected it from your computer at this stage? If large it might take a while to upload.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Front Discs
« on: 12 January 2013, 07:32:31 pm »
OK. Well thanks ever so much for your replies everyone.

My instinct is that while it's probably good advice to change the discs it doesn't seem to be critical.

So i'll explain to the garage that I can't afford new discs quite yet and ask them to just fit new pads for now.

Then I'll see how I get on with them. If it eats them and I need new discs later in the year then so be it. If not then all the better.

Even if the pads just get me to the other side of our upcoming European tour then that's useful.

Incidentally I do plan to get in to doing more of the servicing myself, but I need to build confidence and daren't learn on this bike as it's my only form of transport and its so good I don't want to ruin it.

Plan is to buy a cheap project bike and learn on that - so it doesn't matter if I strip and nut and it's off the road for weeks. Build a bit of confidence before I do it for real on the Fazer.

Thanks once again for your advice, Andy

The service history (from previous owner) indicates the front & rear pads were both changed at 6000 miles for "Ceramic Carbon". No brand indicated.

My invoice from recent service shows the rear was changed for EBC FA104.

They stripped, cleaned and greased both calipers, and so I'd expect any serious problem would have been spotted. Bike feels good.

FZS600 Fazer / Front Discs
« on: 12 January 2013, 12:12:59 pm »
Hello Folks,

Bike went in for a service this week with local Yamaha dealership, all the standard stuff done and strait forward, but have been left with a question about front discs.

I asked for new pads front and rear - they've done the rear but said it wasn't worth doing the front as the discs are starting to wear and it'll just eat the pads.

Recommendation is that discs and pads should be changed at the same time in a couple of thousand miles. Estimated £300.

I've done 16,000 miles and was wondering if it's typical to need to replace brake discs at this mileage due to wear?

I'm eager to look after the bike well, but after telling the dealership I'll think about it and get back to them it's occurred to me that I can get quite a lot of pads for £300.

I'm going to take a really close look at the discs myself this afternoon and will let you know what I see, but I hadn't noticed any grooving.

They described it as a wavy feel when you run your fingers over them (but I don't think they meant anything as extreme as warping).

If it needs doing then it needs doing, but just trying to get a feel for the situation as it's a bit unexpected, and difficult to afford.

Any advice / experience welcome.

2002 FZS 600 16,000 miles

Thanks, Andy.

General / GetGeared.co.uk £50 Gift Card for £30 (ish)
« on: 09 January 2013, 09:48:08 pm »

Hello Folks,

Spotted this deal and am using it to finally buy myself some soft luggage for our upcoming Euro tour. Saves me £20 hopefully.

It's a £50 GetGeared.co.uk voucher for £30 (if they all go, or £35 at present).

http://www.buyapowa.com/ref/ISbUAu

And even better if they all sell then it saves me a fiver!

PS) Hope I'm not breaking any rules posting this but some kind chap previously posted a £5 off on ebay voucher which I was able to use on some waterproofs so thought i'd return the favour.

Also checkout youtube, there are some pretty good videos showing how to diagnose electrical faults, and showing multi-metre usage.

Many may already know these, but in case not got some nice links for you.

You can check the TAX database online here (click vehicle enquiry):

  https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/home/intro

And you can check MOT status and history here and here:

  http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECSID-Internet-Status-Request.jsp

  http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECHID-Internet-History-Request.jsp

And finally you can do a simple yes/no insurance status check here:

  http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/

AFAIK all connect to the same databases the police use, so you can anticipate if you're going to run in to problems with ANPR.

To clarify these are all official sites rather than third-party commercial services.

Do you have a record of the number from the key?

If so there's a site where you can simply order a new key for about a fiver. Dead simple. Used it myself for a spare, since my bike only came with one key from the dealers, and it works great.

Check your service manual for the master key number, folks often make a record of this alongside vin numbers etc.

It'll be something fairly simple like B123

Update: The site is www.keytrader.co.uk found it on this forum after another dude recommended it.

FZS600 Fazer / Tank and Saddle Bags
« on: 11 November 2012, 07:14:45 pm »
Hi, Can anyone recommend soft luggage to fit an 02 FZS 600?

I've decided against hard luggage for the time being as I just can't afford it, but am really getting in to my touring.

I'd need to find myself a tank bag and a pair of saddle bags.

Does pretty much any bag fit any bike? Or are there specific ones which are known to fit the fazer well?

A mate lost his saddle bags on the M6 at speed and I'm eager to avoid a repeat of this incident. Do they all secure well?

Any recommendations and advice welcome.

Thanks, Andy

Haynes manual says NGK CR8E for FZS600.

Or Nippondenso U24ESR-N, which sounds a lot like your current plug.

Incidentally the CR9E is recommended for YZF 600 covered by same manual.

What's the voltage across the wire?

And what's the resistance?

I think there's a copy of the haynes manual in the downloads section.

I think it's for models up to 2001 but should be there or there abouts.

Is it full headlight or just parking light? Just wondering if it's the ignition (all the way past on for parking light?)

Unlucky buddy. We've all done it and looks like you got away with it. At least you're not too proud to share.

Were you going down from second to first (but got neutral) or up from first to second (and got neutral)?

I like the audio - and the profanity. I was riding round wales over the weekend and having misjudged a corned found myself shouting Araf! Araf! lol

Our little gang did Wales today - impromptu day off work and 11 hours on the bike. Was nice - 5:30 start bit dark and foggy, but North Wales came up trumps with a bit of sun and stunning roads.

We were a FZS600 (me), a VFR 800, a FZ8 and a ZZR1400.

Hi,

Not specific to the Fazer, but some great vids I found showing how to clean and balance carbs here:

Also if you checkout the channel there's some others showing how to check battery and other electricals for faults.

Hope this helps, Andy

I think there is a little drain at the bottom of the recessed area surrounding the filler hole. Make sure that's not blocked.

Check battery. Even if it's good enough to turn starter motor that doesn't mean it's good enough to make a spark.

Check earth connections to frame are free from corrosion etc.

Check resistance on all relevant wires using multi-meter.

Some handy vids showing how to do these and other electrical tests here:

« on: 10 October 2012, 10:04:54 pm »
Just out of interest what is the best alround wet/dry tyre to have on my 2002 fzs 600?

After a little research I chose the Bridgestone BT023 series for all-round wet/dry sports touring tyres.

The BT023 is basically the updated version of the original BT021.

I'm very pleased with them, bike feels planted and handles well, and as sports tourers they should last pretty good with a bit of luck .

Hey Dave,

Welcome buddy!

Love the riding round North Wales.

I've recently gotten on to a FZS600 for touring and chose North Wales as my first trip - absolutely loved it, great roads. Perhaps even better than my local Peak District, but don't tell anyone I said so.

Welcome once again.
