Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Fork protectors?
« on: 15 January 2012, 01:52:03 pm »
google: venture shield i use this stuff its clear film and sold by 3m to protect fairings ect you can buy a kit pre-cut for your own bike or you can buy just bits and make your own cut-offs ive done loads of bikes from my own to friends, fairings-forks-engine covers you name it you can apply to anything infact my gf brought me  a ltd edition shoei for my B-day and to keep it like new ive done the helmet as you can buy specific helmet kits,  i always do the fork legs as well to stop unwanted chips, once applied its very hard to even see the film.

Alterantive you can buy a roll of the clear stuff oxford sell but i find that stuff not to my likeing and it peels off.

Here's the link for venture shield http://www.venture-shield.co.uk/

This is the company that sells me the stuff http://showtrax.net/ and by what ever size you require very cheap

Here's a pic of some forks i did and the black yokes as well you should be able to see the outline.

Very nice mike and only the blue ones look the fastest.

Now i note from the last pic ! your using clear fluid pipe on the master cylinder so pressume your setup is without res container because like yourself i have the LSL sets and i note they sit slightly higher, so did you have probs with the stock res container and pipe!! when you fitted the lsl sets, i myself have moved the res as far up as possible but i do think it sits slightly low in conjunction with the position of the lsl sets and as ive put no miles on it id rather dress the problem if there is going to be one before i do use it.

Ive got a shed full of cleaning stuff a huge variety from cheap as chips stuff to very expensive i aint kidding either ive got a OCD  :o   and Muc off im my opinion is the worst product to use even in the dilute bottle form you should still dilute even more, Bmw bike dealers will not warrant any corrosion claims if when asked what you clean it with you say muc-off,
i used to clean my enduro bike in this stuff because it worked very well with using just one application but i noted how quick it stained so will never use again, i now usually buy the gel stuff hein gerrick sell its there own brand and its very good stuff and ill buy snow foam off ebay in 25litre tubs its cheaper this way, strawberry snow foam i run this thro my jet washer so dilutes and produced a thick snow foam an smells like strawberry's(you can get all sorts of nice smelling ones) wait several mins and than rince off and hey presto the bike's spotless.

yep look at one of the pics (exhaust side view) you can see the ohlins shock pre-load adj attached to the rear footrest hanger and you can just make the gold ohlins shock, and the other pics dont show this, so he may have taken this off to sell separate as that shock retails @ over 1k now or if he brought the bike like this he may have used the same pics from the previous purchase  .

But there's no harm asking about the shock.

that'll be the one! I knew someone here would have seen it. looks good in the flesh with a good quality paint job.

Nice looking bike with the right mods.

Ive been to the sellers house to collect some clear indi lenses up i won off eblag, seemed a nice chap gave me some free orange bulbs as well, i was not aware he had a fazer as well, looks like it had a ohlins rear shock with pre-load adj as well in the pics so was fully sorted with the front springs and ivans kit, however some pics show it without the ohlins shock did he take this off!!

I take it the engine has been repainted ? ...
I do wonder how many hours you put in to getting a bike to that standard ( ie as new) ??

Jon, the only new paint is on the rocker cover, the engine has not been touched however i did clean it with a toothbrush  :\  to bring it up as you see, the previous owner had never riden the bike in the rain or bad weather so that helps .

Ive spent afew hours indeed but ill confess i do like to tinker i get great enjoyment from doing it, and will have to find something else to tinker with now .

« on: 27 December 2011, 05:28:38 pm »

i took my chain to my local bike mechanic and he joined it for me, free of charge. i then took it home and fitted it. simple.

Yeah but you can only fit a joined chain if you take the swingarm out  ;)

« on: 24 December 2011, 11:30:42 pm »
Ayup chaps, ive about finished my little project till the new year ! its minta than mint, did i tell ya all i have a OCD  :o  and taking into account its condition and what id have to pay to get something in this spec, its alot of bike for not alot of money.

new Seat an all the carbon now fitted.

I brought some oberone heavy stainless bar ends and had em powder coated black no more vibs,i removed the stock fairing decals but it looked to plain so the decals you see, the fazer is from the fz8 and the red 1000-exup decals from ebay.

I cant make my mind up if i like the NRC engine covers! and the colour is a very slight shade different than the rocker so they may go back on ebay! or ill get the spare rocker i have colour matched, oh yeah i have some billet covers also coming from the states, i also had the front engine/frame brace powder coated black and all the little brackets that cant be seen in the pics.

Timing cover needs re-powdercoating as i did not clean the bolt holes enough  :\  and so when i put the bolts in i got a hairline crack in the powder so only fitted for pics, and i removed the genuine yam crash bungs and replaced with the moto ones and whilst i had everything in bits i polished all the stainless bolts.

Carbon rad covers now fitted.

Im going to replace the chain to a nice coloured one.

Yep its even got heated grips! Daytona ones these feel like sportsbike grips nice soft feel to em and yeah i do plan to use it for my trips into europe.

LSL rear sets and HM quickshifter.

So id like to wish all you foccer's a merry xmas ...

Dave  :D

I do recall such dave....you lucky smooth talkin person !  ;)

feck that does seem a long time ago now, but it was only just over 2 yrs.

I also still remember how lucky dek was when he had his blowout in 06, and you went off the road to see the scenery in 07. Makes u think life aint all that bad, cos it all could have been very diffrent outcome  :eek ....

oops, sorry ...going off topic!  :o

Yeah jon, that day twas a learning curve,  you can make many mistakes in life but only make the same one once  :\
I wrecked a stunning bike gut wrenching, but we still hammered on racing up the stelvio with a flapping fairing  ;) and i sold for the bike for what i paid for it so not all bad.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: what oil should i use!!!!!
« on: 20 December 2011, 06:55:10 pm »
Please do not use car oil of any sort in a motor cycle engine. There is a difference, but as I am not a chemist I cant clearly explain the difference. I have used only good quality engine oil on my bikes for the past 50 years and have never had a mechanical issue that you could put down to lubrication problems. Be careful. Have a good Xmas. Ask Santa for some expensive oil.
The only difference (assuming they both conform to the same SAE standards, and do not have friction modifiers) is that one charges a premium for putting the word "motorcycle" on the packaging.

Yep i agree with paul totally its all in the name, ive trawled the tinternet and looked hard into different oils car and bike and i would use car oil without a doubt.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: BROKEN SPARK PLUG !
« on: 19 December 2011, 06:38:39 pm »
I can only think it may have had a airline fracture and i disturbed it from pulling the plugs leads off a couple times for the removal of the rocker cover(powder coated) and the AIS removal as the lead caps was quite firmly on and id not touched the plugs before hand so cant own up to that one.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: RAN OUT OF PETROL MULTI GAUGE INCORRECT!!
« on: 19 December 2011, 06:17:41 pm »
Mike, my bike does not have the original gauge its fitted with the multi gauge, and my bike ran out of fuel when it stated i had 2 litres left in the tank, ive since sorted the problem with buying another sender of evilbay for a couple quid and putting a slight bend in the sender, this has sorted it and now reads hopefully bang on.

Cheers Dave  ;)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: problems with pyramid hugger fitment on gen1
« on: 18 December 2011, 09:35:30 pm »
I brought a pryamid hugger for gen1 about 4-5 months ago in the blue colour and mine fits perfect, i also run 6'' rear wheel with 190/50 tyre and the gap between hugger and tyre is fine, sounds like i may have struck lucky as im sure someone else on the site had complained about there hugger as well !!

I bet that was a seriously pleasant moment when it came out!!

after sitting there with my head in my hands  :'( thinking oh sh1t this is going to be major and ill need to strip top end off, and so when my little removal method worked a treat it felt really good as it would have played on my mind and caused me sleepless nights  :lol
