Received the pannier rails today. All good. Many thanks.

Greetings All,

I foolishly sold my Givi pannier frames and E21 panniers to another forum member about 18mths ago. I would now like to try and replace them for a French trip in September.

I know that they rarely come up on here, but if somebody does have some that they're thinking of getting rid of, then please get in touch by PM.

Cheers

« on: 12 November 2013, 08:30:03 pm »
As CRH says above.
I spent ages trying to bleed my front brakes. Eventually, cable tied the front brake lever and left it over night. Never had a problem since.
Best of luck with it.

OMG!!!!

I know that this has been the topic of much discussion already over the years, but after deciding to service my EXUP valve again before winter sets in, I decided to get some parts prices for the various components.

I was only after a new spacer for the inner end of the valve itself, but got some prices for the bushes at both ends as well. Feast your eyes on this little lot from Yamaha................

Spacer (inner end of valve) = £11.20 PLUS VAT
Bush (inner end of valve / end plate / both the same) = £30.80 each PLUS VAT
End plate = £89.20 PLUS VAT
EXUP Valve itself = £282.32 PLUS VAT

I was only comforted (a little), when he told me that I guy recently asked for a price for a GSXR1000K3 fairing side panel and was quoted well over £500 for it!!!

Hope this doesn't push the prices of used EXUP componentry on this site to fellow Foccers??? :eek

Hi mate,

If you PM me your email address, I'll try and get some photos across to you tomorrow, along with some prices.

258
Where are you mate? Ive got a Givi rack off of my Fazer in the garage. Ive also got a Bagster tank cover and matching bag. Unfortunately, they're in the 2001 shade of blue though.  :(
Let me know if youre interested in the rack and where you are.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: For sale: Givi Rear rack for Fazer 1000 Gen 1
« on: 20 February 2013, 08:01:25 pm »
Ahhhhh

That's why it's been so quiet!.

Thanks Rolfieh for that. When I listed it, I just had a quick squint on EBay and genuinely thought they were closer to £100. That'll teach me!

I may as well keep it, rather than sell it for £25. (I normally work on about 50% of the new price when selling secondhand stuff).

Don't know how to close a thread on here but please consider it closed.

Cheers

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: slipon v full monty
« on: 08 February 2013, 03:57:32 pm »
another question for you chaps .has anybody had the ivans slip on kit and then had full monty done .if so how noticeable was the gain if any ????
cheers
bash
I had Mike fit the full monty on my last Gen 1. This combined with a change on sprocket, (cant remember which - only did it because my supplier couldnt get hold of a standard fitment sprockets at the time) made a hige difference. It would easily lift the front on the throttle in 1st and in 2nd with a little more encouragement.
I now have another Gen 1 which has the slip on kit fitted. It doesn't seem anywhere near as lively off the throttle as my old one.  :(
The full monty imho completely changes the power delivery / lower down torque from standard. It felt like a completely different bike after Mike waved his wand over it.
How much to change up from a slip on to a full monty please? When are you coming back Mike?  :D

Hi guys,

Sorry, been away for while and not checking my old posts.

Eventually gave up, cable tied the lever and left for twenty four hours and as if by magic, when I returned to it, had good lever pressure. It seems to have stayed that way since, although with the weather, it hasnt seen much use recently.

As an aside I also have non standard (shorter) clutch / brake levers. Didn't even consider this as not helping at the time, but now that someone else has mentioned it, it seems common sense!

It's a shame that you're the other end of the country. I may have been interested otherwise.
There's another cracker for sale up your way on another forum, but same problem, not cost effective to travel for it.
Best of luck with the sale.

I'm with Pitternator!

Now on my third Gen 1 and it must be my 7th or 8th GS (1100/1150). I was in this situation a couple of years back, had a GS and a Gen 1, but foolishly decided to change / had to sell one because I needed the funds , cant remember which now!
I've finally managed to get back to what is, so far, my best compromise option, a Gen 1 AND a GS (70k on it mind). I'm fortunate enough that I can at the moment currently afford to keep two bikes. In total, they're worth no more than about £4-£4.5k, so far less than a newer more modern bike. The GS is fantastic for all of the things that Pitternator states above, but the Gen 1 gives me that occasional speed fix / adrenaline rush that I need and cant really get from the GS.
I've had both previously as single bikes and found myself wanting to ride the Fazer like a hooligan far too frequently (okay, all the time) and got frustrated on occasion with the lack of performance on the GS.
Prices for Gen 1's are the lowest that i've seen them for a long while now and GS's are similarly good value. Other than say a Blackbird, I dont think there are many bikes out there that offer all of the qualities that the Gen 1 offers, for the same sort of money.
You pays your money..........

Okay guys, thanks for the input. Kitty has pretty much a full service history and whilst she has been laid up for two years, she has only done 200 odd miles since her last dealer service, so I'm "fairly" happy that she's been looked after well.

I'll get onto having another go when time permits.

Cheers

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Advice please re front brake issue on Gen 1
« on: 13 October 2012, 11:12:10 am »
Ok guys,

At the risk of making myself look like a complete fool.............

Recently bought a Gen 1 Thou from another forum member (Kitty). The bike had been laid up for best part of a couple of years and therefore the front calipers were binding on. I had good pressure at the lever but they were just binding a little after release.

So, yesterday, I took them both off, took the pads out etc and gave them a bit of a clean up. Unfortunately, through a lack of foresight, whilst working on one caliper, I managed to pop out one of the pistons. I gave it a quick clean and managed to get it back in again without too much ado. I finished off by trying to bleed the brakes up again.

Unfortunately, I can now not get any lever pressure and am a bit stuck.

When trying to bleed it up, I was getting fluid coming through the bleed nipples but not with any great pressure. I can see no signs of leakage anywhere and I have been topping up the fluid reservoir. I've taken the offending caliper off again and had another good look but again, no signs of any fluid seepage from where I've replaced the piston.

I'm thinking that maybe the master cylinder seals may have gone, but cant undertand how that would have happened when all i've done is a quick clean / freeing up of the pistons / calipers. I also dont want to shell out on a new m/c seal kit if its not that causing the problem.

Have I missed something blindingly obvious here??? By the way, the bike has braided hoses so I dont think its those that have perished.

Any advice appreciated.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: what would you do?
« on: 13 September 2012, 02:33:18 pm »
I'd have to agree with the above sentiments. Had three Bandit 12's over the years and loved them all. Great bikes but inferior build quality and heavier. You'll need to spend money to get them handling as well as a standard Fazer too.
The engines are different, more grunty / torquey low down, whereas the Fazer needs more revving. The Fazer rewards though with a bigger top end, if that's important to you?
I've had two Fazer gen 1's before as well, so I can cross compare.
Your Fazer has probably not going to lose much in value now if you keep it maintained, whereas a newer Bandit will still significantly depreciate. Looking back in a few years, that depreciation will probably pay for any mods / tyres etc that you're currently worried about spending out on now.
I am now firmly back on the "find another Fazer" path, having realised (again!!) the error of my ways in getting rid of my last "sorted" Fazer.
For the money, there's still not a lot out there that can match the Fazer IMHO. Good luck with whatever you decide.

« on: 31 August 2012, 04:06:18 pm »
Hi,
I've got a wingrack 2 with indicators. I'm not sure if they are model specific or whether you can just buy the fitting kit for whichever bike you have?
The one I have was off of my Honda Blackbird. You may find the fitting kit makes it cost prohibitive but let me know if you're interested. Probably best to PM me.
I'm not too far from London, 12 miles outside of Reading.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: Any Info ON ...
« on: 21 April 2012, 08:05:55 pm »
HI,
I bought an airhawk (the cheaper version) a few years ago to put on my BMW R1100GS that I had at the time. For short runs, the GS standard seat was okay, but after an hour or two, my rear end began to suffer. The arihawk cured this, once I'd worked out how much to inflate it. You dont need to inflate them that much.
The only issues that I had with it is that it obviously raised the seat height on an already tall seat, which was a little unnerving at times. You do wobble about on it a little as well, when you shift your weight, due to the air moving between the smaller air pockets within.
For a cheap alternative to sore a**e syndrome I dont see how you can go wrong. If you were nearer, I'd say you could borrow it and try it out for a week or two.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Cheers Skid
