General / Re: When buying a 2nd hand bike....
« on: 27 January 2012, 12:28:26 pm »
Another one that gets over looked because people always assume its ok is the frame and engine numbers matching the V5. Ask when the bike was last serviced, and when is it due its next one. How many owners has it had? Ask why he/she is selling it, 9 times out of ten people have a genuine reason, but occasionally you may get someone who might stutter a bit as they try to think of a reason, when they know there is an underlying problem. Whats the chain like, is it well oiled and correctly adjusted, or slack and rusty? Good luck  :)

Hi, sounds like a good deal, similar to my Vauxhall Owners Club, you get massive discounts at main dealers for parts and accessories as well. Whats the payment method, do I send you a cheque or can I use Paypal or something similar? :)

Thanks for the feedback lads. I will bite on the bullet then and get the multitester out. Thought it was best to check if there was a known fault on these models that may have saved a lot of hassle troubleshooting  ;)
 :'(
Did you sort out your fuel gauge? If so what did you find?  :rolleyes

I had the Gen 1 Fazer1000 a couple of years back, loved it to bits, Mike Ivanised it, I thrashed it (when & wherever I could) and decided that going everywhere easily in trebble figures had to stop. It was also one of the only bikes I've had that I could ride all day and not ache! However I now have A 1999 FZS600 and find I can use all the power much more easily, but not be going as mentally fast as I did on the thou. As mentioned before, keep the exup valves clean, lubed and serviced and as long as you've got plenty of self control with your right wrist, enjoy!!!!  :rollin

Yeah, these home made jobbies may look ok, but unless some testing and research has been done regarding carburation, you could end up with a bike that looks the dogs, but runs like a bag of shite!  :'(

Diablo, click on the 'Articles' link at the top of the homepage, and I think its the 2nd one down is the headlight mod. Theres step by step instructions and photos. I did mine, if you take your time you'll be ok. Good luck  :D

If you have a Haynes manual and a fairly decent tool kit, you can do it yourself, just follow the instructions step by step, take your time and if need be use a digital camera to take pics of things like wiring routing and pipes etc. Just need a mate to help actually remove the engine from the frame, but you will have just saved £250!! Its only nuts and bolts at the end of the day, just take your time, another tip would be to label any wiring you have to disconnect. give it a go :b

FZS600 Fazer / Carb kits
« on: 22 January 2012, 08:12:50 pm »
I got a quote from Yamaha for a new float needle and brass seat for my fazer, after  my bike started dumping fuel out of the carb every time I turned it off. They wanted £43.00 inc VAT, which for such a tiny (but very important) item, I thought was a bit dear. I found a company on ebay called 'Bike Business' who do a complete carb repair kit, with float needle, brass seat, gaskets and o rings for £10!! and theyre made in Japan. I was a bit dubious at first, but I thoght what the hell and bought 4 kits and did all 4 carbs for less than the price of one yamaha one! Touch wood shes been fine for weeks and runs like a dream. Worth a look if you want to save pennies!  :)
