it's the 17mm nut right by the side stand
just behind part of the frame where you can't get a socket in
hope thats the right one.
tried "cracking" it (tighten to loosen) and just undoing it but no joy so far.
might try and get the engine nice and warm, then spraying a small amount of water on the plug to shrink it fractionally.
any suggestions ?

« on: 03 June 2012, 03:31:41 pm »

FZS600 Fazer / changing air filter - easy ?
« on: 01 June 2012, 08:26:22 pm »
planning on changing the oil, filter and putting in a mag drain plug this weekend, and that got me thinking (yes, i know that's dangerous !)
i would doubt that the air filter has been changed recently and could probably do with being replaced.
is it an easy thing to replace ?
don't mind a bit of work, but would prefer not to have to remove the tank ifi can help it.
thanks :)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: help please - suspension, surging & idle speed
« on: 31 May 2012, 09:33:50 pm »
thanks :)
downloaded the manual but not had the time to read it as yet.
seem to be stuck in a work, eat, sleep routine at the moment  :(
as soon as i get chance i'll have a look at the throttle cable
my bike is a 2001 (Y plate) and as it has only done 7k miles i would doubt that the springs have been replaced, but you never know ;)

FZS600 Fazer / help please - suspension, surging & idle speed
« on: 31 May 2012, 08:03:09 pm »
got a few niggles with my bike that i want toget sorted out asap if i can, but never really been mechanically trained (or watched anyone who is) i'm not really sure where to start !
ok, first off......
my front suspension is rock hard !
how can i soften it up a bit please ?
the back was on the hardest setting and i have dropped that 3 notches and is much better.
when i am cruising (at any speed) and i am holding the throttle steady, the bike feels like it is wanting to surge forwards.
no big issue, but gets annoying after a while.
any way i can fix this ?
and lastly, my bike seems to idle at rather too low revs (stalled twice yesterday :eek )
can i increase the idle speed up from the 1k (approx) at the moment to something like 1.5-2k ?
thanks for your help  :D

I thought a chamois dried it off with no streaks?
it does, using a bit of rinse aid means you don't need to shammy :)

FZS600 Fazer / oil change - magnetic plug, oil & filter ?
« on: 26 May 2012, 08:02:04 pm »
i'm not sure when my bike last had an oil change so i'm planning to give it a treat in the near future :)
does the fazer come with a magnetic sump plug as standard ?
if not, are they a good thing to have ?
also,
i assume i can't just put some castrol gtx in that i use for the car !
what is a good oil to use ?
whilst i'm at it i might as well replace the filter as well.
what is a good make filter please ?
thanks for your help :D

General / bike / car washing - quick tip :)
« on: 26 May 2012, 06:54:21 pm »
discovered this by accident a few weeks ago, and only remembered to share today whilst washing my "baby" !
to avoid water marks after washing, put some dishwasher rinse aid in the water !
no need to dry off after washing :)
job done :D

General / Re: buying road tax on line?
« on: 24 May 2012, 10:33:33 pm »
i've driven my car before my tax disc has arrived.
as far as i know, once you have purchased your tax disc online, it will update the dvla computer which is what the police use to check your tax disc info via anpr.
don't quote me on that though !

General / Re: Legal question.. Leathermans??
« on: 24 May 2012, 10:18:14 pm »
as far as i can remember as long as the longest blade is less than 3" long and not a flick knife type you should be ok.
if in doubt, pop into the pig sty when it is quiet and ask !

not intentionally opening a mass debate ! :)
my head shape isn't important at the moment really, i just don't know what is out there :)
to give you an idea why i need to replace my lid....
it's an FM Simpsons one ! (best guess about 10 years old)  :eek

General / new lid - help please ! :)
« on: 24 May 2012, 09:45:19 pm »
decided that i really need a new lid as the one i have is quite a few years old  :eek
trouble is, i don't really know what is out there.
ideally i would like a flip up lid with a sun visor
and would prefer it to be a "vibrant" colour ! (yellow, orange, etc.)
any help would be appreciated.
i'll be trying on the lid before i part with the hard earned, just need a bit of help finding what i am after :)
thanks :D

General / Re: ear plugs - do you / don't you & why ?
« on: 22 May 2012, 08:36:25 pm »
some really good comments here :)
couple of further questions ....
are the "make your own" earplugs that are advertised on fleabay any good ?
i use the foam roll up and expand ones at the moment and find them a real job to get right. what are the alternatives?
thanks :D

FZS600 Fazer / stainless downpipes
« on: 21 May 2012, 09:42:15 pm »
the stock downpipes on my bike are in good nick (thankfully :D), but at some point in the near future (when i've saved a few pennies) i plan to replace them with stainless.
my main question is, are they easy to fit ?
i can do most diy jobs, but never really tinkered with anything mechanical (but always wanted to)
also, do they vary from company to company ?
if so, any ones to avoid ?
thanks :D

General / bugs on visor - soap and water or something better ?
« on: 20 May 2012, 06:28:40 pm »
on my ride out today (still grinning from it :D) my visor got covered in bugs.
is soap and water the best thing to get them off with, or have you found anything better / easier ?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Seat Height - Adjusting ?
« on: 20 May 2012, 11:54:27 am »
having removed the 4 rubber "bungs" the seat is now pretty much perfect for me :D
just a thought though,
would that lead to scratching / rubbing of the seat on the frame ?
if so, what could i use to prevent it without altering the seat height (too much) ?
thanks
