Nice one "Paul Smith"... I always wondered how nails, screws & other general road crud gets attracted to the highly priced tyres... I would guess the newer they were the more magnetism to these deflating objects they attract...!

Reminds me of when I borrowed my mates R1, I came back with a bone china cup handle stuck out of a quickly defeating rear hoop... oops!

Thank you all for your input, I will be 'rubbering up' on the 10th May & am tempted for the Metzlers, just for a change.

Thanks AyJay, was an option I didn't think of... my tyre fitter has suggested 'Metzler Road 3', but i will look at the Bridgestone option

Hi all,

I have a 2008 FZ1 & am getting ready for my annual euro bike tour, which usually is about 2500 miles.

For the past 4 years I have been using Dunlop Road Smarts as the tyre of choice. I switched to the Road Smart II year before last & didn't really gel with them as much as the original road smarts as not as good feed back in handling but tyre life was exceptional.

Last year i managed to source a pair of originals & was happy with the handling. but they were the last of stock.

What choice of rubber do all use or what do you give a wide birth to..?

I also use my bike for rest of year in all manner of riding but mainly spirited.

To also add to the equation I was quite ill during my 2012 bike trip when using the road smarts II so may have been influenced by that..

Hi all thats interested, I have today (08/06/12) fitted a center stand to my ABS model FZ1 bought from everyone's favorite site 'EBAY' for a princely sum of £40.00.
I came off a none ABS model. I have to fit the 'off-side' bracket to the bottom of the bike frame which involved removing the small ABS wire retaining bracket which was bolted into the holes needed for the bracket. Once Stand & bracket was fitted I simply cable tied the wires to the new bracket fitted. Hardest part of the job was attaching the spring. Will have to look at fabricating a new stop for the center stand when not in use as it now rests on the suspension linkage as the rubber stop is now in mid air as I have the Akra Chimney instead of the standard. Oh I also had to source a couple of M10 x 1.0 pitch bolts 30mm long for the offside bracket. You can also get these off of 'EBAY' pair of stainless ones will be about £3.00

Hope this helps anyone...??

I got a pair of Dunlop Roadsmart II for £210, which replaced the Roadsmart I, i did over 4500 miles on them going around europe last year and plenty of UK riding including a Cadwell Park track day. I hope the Roadsmart II's are just as good.

Cheers,

The ABS option wasn't really a selling point for me. I wanted a white model & it came at a good price with lots of extras. I did think about dumping the ABS system off & will do if it does go permanently wrong.

Hi all, Just thought I'd post this for anyone else with a similar problem.

I have a ABS model FZ1 & while out riding last week the ABS warning light came on. while the bike was still safe to ride it did sort of make me uneasy getting a lick of speed on.

When home a took both of the pick up sensors out of the wheels & gave them a good clean, the rear one was quite heavy with dust & crap, probably because its more exposed than the front. Once refitted I went out for a test ride & the warning light has not come on.

Sorry to jump on this link, but I am also interested in fitting a center stand to my FZ1-N ABS, but have been told an ABS model can't have a center stand is this correct or has my leg been pulled... I also have a Akrapovic end can which may hinder the stand.
Does any one have similar & fitted a stand?
