In my opinion I still think the gen 2 FZ1 looks fresh by todays standards. Would it be change for changes sake I wonder?(not that there is anything wrong with change!) If I had the latest high torque high hp supernaked I would most likely not be any faster than on the FZ1. The Yam is effectively far better than my capabilities. Having said all this I do like the look of the new Z, and if money were no object I'd defo have one in my garage! Fingers crossed on the euromillions tonight!

Where about are you? I had my ECU re flashed at Hilltop motorcycles, Leicester. Completely changed the bike and got 147 rwhp, restrictions removed, throotle response smooth as ya like. I have no PC, no airbox mod, just a pipercross filter, decatted mid pipe, Remus hexacone zorst. I would definitely recommend the ECU re map.

Devilsyam you really wont regret the flash, thats what I did, I too bought an FCE, sold it as I no longer needed it as was having ECU re-mapped at Hilltop. My personal opinion on the FCE was that it didnt really work on the bike, if I knew then what I know now I would have gone straight for the re-flash. It really does wake the bike up and makes you realise just how restrictex the gen 2 is stock. I put a link up detailing the whole experience in my intro mate, be interesting yo hear your thoughts once you have it done!

Oh and I kept the exup on the advice of the guy that did the remap, he did explain the science behind it, although it kind of went over my head, something to do with back pressure and resonance or something! I cant think why Yamaha would invest the time effort and money for something that regulates noise!  Surely there would be a cheapeelr easier alternative?  Anywho all I can say is the low down torque has been vastly improved, acceleration is mental, and there is a significant difference from stock. Let me see if I can find the link dude...

There she be! Yo noggeythenog, thanks for the welcome. I basically went down the ECU remap route as after researching both routes, and hoping to keep the Yam for a good while, I decided the ECU remap route was the best way forward. I believe the ECU in modern bikes such as the FZ1 offer more in terms of adjustability, and ensuringvthe bike runs at its optimal performance. I'm by no means a whizz kid in thiz area, although after much research, and speaking to a guy who had his ECU remapped over in the states on the other forum, I decided to give it a go. I will try and pisf up the link of my experience on here! By gojbg down this route I do not need a PC, and the ECU can do everything a PC can and then some. Only downside is when comjng to sell the bike I will be selling it with the flash too, although it will only make the bike sell easier.  With the sprocket changes in addition to the ECU remap, it performs how Yamaha should have made it! I am on the lookout for an aftermarket shock though, although it appears I'll be waiting a while for one at a decent price, may just have to stump up the cash for a new one, nevermind it'll make the bike that much sweeter!

Hello all, thought I'd join up as I ride a 2008 FZ1-S, and will look to share my experiences/learn from yours whilst owning this fantastic bike. I will upload pics in due course however stuff I've done so far is reflashed ECU, braided lines front and rear, aftermarket levers, pipercross filter, de-catted mid pipe, modified link pipe to retain exup valve for my Remus hexacone carbon zorst, and sprocket change 16/47. Think thats about it!  Look forward to chatting to fellow Yammie owners!
