FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Chain rivet query
« on: 28 June 2016, 09:44:10 am »
the rivet end was a lot tougher and harder than I expected, had to give it a fair number of taps to get it like this..

is that normal? everything i tried to push in the hole to flare ended up worse off than the rivet end  :rollin

FZ6 / Fazer / Chain rivet query
« on: 27 June 2016, 11:16:41 pm »
Reeto,

I've whacked a new set of sprockets and chain on the fz6, however the cheap peice of shit riveting too I had has apparently got a riveting bit that's softer than the rivet...

so I've  been trying to bash the rivet to flare it and used whatever i could find to do so, however i'm not sure how much is enough to not result in all of the death.

Is the pic below flared enough?

fitted new chain and sprockets, cried when the cheap riveting tool was weaker than the soft rivet...

Well the woman is up for it so looks like we'll bob over, we don't live very far away anywho. She's undecided whether she's going to pillion or come on her tiddler (won't have her big bike licence by then)

I've got Bridgestone T30's on mine at the moment, they handle and wear well as far as I can tell, had them on 2 years and still plenty left though I don't do huge milage (about 5000 a year)

The options for comfier seats seem to be really expensive, i get sore after about a 2hr straight stint (arse goes numb) I don't do that many of these though so i've can't justify the cost of a comfort seat

thanks,

picked up the scorpion cans this morning, adding side/lower fairing, removing the silver red line stickers form the front (never really like them)

Orange bits are brake resevoir cover, tankpad, rim tape, possibly pegs but undecided, black & orange levers and eventually plan to make my own seat cowl once all the rest is done. I'll post up pics and progress of the cowl as I go along

Eh up, thought i'd get involved in a forum again and what better than to join one for my bike

From Manchester, recently moved to the midlands, IT engineer in my 30's, ride a 2008 Fz6 S2 all in black which i've owned for nearly 3 years, besides a brake caliper issue it's never skipped a beat.

Currently adding a few mods and bits to it to match my favourite colour combo of black and orange, as and when funds allow. New scorpion cans going on this weekend.

Any other midlanders about? Know of any decent meets/ride outs etc as me and the womanface don't know the area well

I've changed the master cylinder and lines and still happening, piston is spotless and caliper does slide with pads pushed back but have a feeling it's the caliper bolt closest to the front its more difficult to bolt in so may have been misthreaded by previous owner? Ordered a replacement caliper from a breakers, that bolt side is where its wearing the pad down most,

Retard moment, thought I had. Not crashed or anything, the wind took it over when it was parked. Couldn't try the replacement bracket as discovered I don't own a socket big enough for the rear wheel nut. Did discover that there's a notable difference though when the front of the 2 slide bolts is unscrewed so looks like something somewhere may be bent?

Doubt its to do with spacers is it didn't start happening in line with wheel being removed, which is why I think the wind blowing it over may have done something

There was barely any wear on the left pad (chain side of disc) but right pad was completely worn to nothing at an angle with nothing on the front of the pad left but a fair bit at the back, putting new bracket on and re-ckecking alignment of everything tonight after work

trying a new bracket before master cylinder as i've managed to get one for £3, whereas a master cylinder is considerably higher cost and shouldn't have failed on such a low mileage bike, whereas the bike has fallen over twice on the right side so it's possible the bracket has bent

It does slide on the pins by hand but not visually when the brakes are used, I'll try testing the line like you say, piston is spotless and visibly retracting as can see in the video if its not chucking it down tonight will test a few more things

Failing that anyone know a decent garage in Manchester who know their brakes? Rather fix it myself but think Mrs is getting bored of me nicking her CBF lol

I'll get some photos later its continued after disc was replaced at a garage so don't think it's disc or wheel alignment

Additional symptom, had to ride it briefly today, the brake requires 2 pumps of the pedal to feel fully firm, after this it feels firm on 1 but then after moving off again it goes back to needing 2. And definitely still running. Disc was red hot

to sound like a complete newb, where about should I disconnect the line? Thoughts did go towards the cylinder..

however there'some other variables, I've noticed on the diagrams there should be shims behind the pads? these are missing, however I can't see how a shim would help the brakes release.

other is the bit the caliper attaches to, this appears to have a slight bend, I do not know if this is supposed to be like this or it has bent somehow? there's still a clear gap between this and the disc

So, for a while i've been having issues with my rear brake, it's basicly chewing through pads in less than 1000 miles and doing so at an odd angle and uneven, also seems to be rubbing

Now i've replaced the rota & pads, completely cleaned the hell out of the caliper and pins, both slide pins baby smooth with 1500 grit sand paper (were ever so slightly rough) and greased them up.
Piston is pretty much spotless, no corrosion on it at all, with the caliper out and lever pressed then released the piston looks to retract a little though i've no idea how much it should.
Brake fluid also changed and lines bled.
Problem is still persisting today, went to feel the rota temperature and was red hot after little use of the rear, on centre stand it's clear it's not released the pads as it barely moves when try to spin it by hand

I've also now changed the seals and the issue is still occurring, it's driving me nuts

Any ideas?

The caliper is a single pot nissin caliper

Just thought i'd give it the old 'Hello'

I use a couple of forums but seeing as I ride an FZ6 S2 it seemed logical to join up here and see what the craic is.

Based in Manchester, 31 yr old nerd, been riding couple of years and acquired my fazer in Sept and it's the best bike i've owned thus far  :thumbup
