Hi All,

Over the past few weeks i've posted about a misfire issue i've had in all gears between 7-8k rpm. The bike has been at the local garage (great guys!) for the past 2 weeks for various diagnostic tests etc but i'm afraid even they have failed to solve the issue!! I'm going to list below what has been done and if no one has any ideas then I think i will be throwing the bike from the nearest cliff!!

Carb rubbers changed.
Breather pip[es checked (Tank and carbs).
Rectifier/Regulator changed to a known good part (from noggy).
Coil packs anf HT leads/caps changed to a know good set (from noggy).
Carbs cleaned and rebuilt 3 times (Rebalanced after every strip down).
Rear wiring Loom changed to a know good loom.
Fuel pump changed to a known good pump.
Generator changed from a known good engine.
Carbs & TPS changed to a known good set of carbs (balanced before testing).
Electrical check of all components (TPS, Rectifier, Coils).

The one and only thing I have yet to change is the ECU/CDI unit, does anyone think this could cause this issue?

I am happy to throw a final few quid in to the fzs black hole to test this but i'm really getting to the end of my patients!!

Any help and advise is welcome.

Regards
Greg

So quick update on this, carbs fully stripped cleaned and re-built. Issue at 3/4 to full throttle still there.

All breather pipes checked, issue still there.

Air filter removed, issue still there.

Exhaust can removed, issue still there.

No matter what is done, my bike hits 7k RPM at 3/4 to full throttle and dies!!

More investigation tomorrow.

FZS600 Fazer / Some basic carb question
« on: 31 July 2014, 10:46:13 pm »
All,

Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I have some question regarding the FZS600 carbs, mine have been stripped down and cleaned - I was wondering why 1 of the 3 jets is a blank i.e. no hole? According to (http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/genuineparts/9796/11/yamaha%20fzs600%20fazer/carburetor?uID=0) its item number 8, Jet Main (-0).

I can see the other two listed as Jet main (-115) and Jet Pilot (-12.5). Why is one blanked??

Also I can see a fourth jet listed, item 6, Jet Main (-130), what does this do?

Hi Fudge,

I've had this exact issue since getting my fazer, its currently in at bare motorcycles in south wales (http://www.baremotorcycleservices.com/) (http://ultrasoniccarbcleaning.co.uk.websitebuilder.prositehosting.co.uk/) having the carbs reconditioned (ultrasonic clean and blasted) to try to solve the problem.

I changed all the electrical components to rule those out first (fuel pump, rectifier, Coils/HT leads, plug caps), then the air filter was changed to a brand new Yam one, no change to the issues we are collectively having.

The last thing before burning the bike or throwing it of the nearest cliff was to get the carbs done, as soon as i get it back ill let you know if it fixed the issue.

Cheers all,

Cleaning carbs is the main task for the weekend, are there any good 'how to' posts on this??

Ha ha!! Thinking about it he is away at the moment, I'm sure he won't mind me popping around his with some tools and 'borrowing' his carbs for a while!! Ha ha

Think it may be a simple strip down, clean and refit job before doing anything drastic like messing with the jets.

Difficult job??

Hi Paul,

Wouldn't increasing the jet size have the same effect? I.e compensate for the weak mixture by allowing more fuel in to the engine?

Noggy, finally got around to fitting the engine bits (not the engine yet!), unfortunately still have the same issue, im thinking it may be a jetting issue in the carbs caused by the stainless system I had fitted when I first got the bike. Now to learn about re-jetting!!!

Afternoon all,

I finally got around to trying to diagnose an ongoing issue I have had since owning my Fazer, it seems that the bike runs great up to half throttle, as soon as I go past half throttle it starts 'spluttering' and missing. I originally thought it maybe something electrical, so I recently bought some bits from another foccer on her who was stripping his bike. I changed the Rectifier, coil packs & leads and finally the fuel pump/filter. If anything the bike now seems to pull stronger in every gear, but the issue at nearly full throttle still exists.

Im now thinking that since I had the bike, I fitted Motad stainless downpipes and can before getting the bike T&T'd, i did not however ever think of re-jetting the carbs to accommodate the increase in airflow. Would I be right in thinking that this may cause fuel starvation type symptoms at high revs/half-full throttle? If so, does anyone know how hard/easy the jets are to change?

Any help appreciated.

Noggy!! Thanks for the great purchases, i've not had time to change any parts over yet.... I had to put up with the misses winging all weekend after bringing the engine and other bits home! I now know that I have to have written permission from her in order to make any purchases that are not related to 'the family'. Calling the Fazer my 'other baby' and trying to justify it this way did not go down well  :wall

Ill let you know when they are fitted!

Thanks again....

Not sure yet, Ive changed the plug caps to new NGK's from M&P, also adjusted the TPS as this was showing 10k rather than 5 so I will hopefully find out this weekend. :)

Anyone know if the coils can cause this?? Anything I can do to diagnose the issue?

Afternoon all! I Finally got the fazer back from the garage today after quite a bit of work. All ses to be running well after an 80 mile ride around Brecon, but I did notice a bit of hesitance at the top end when overtaking a car on the motorway. I took it up to around 9.5k rpm and it was pulling like a train, then suddenly it felt like it hit a brick wall and it started missing, opened the throttle a bit more and a suddern surge of power! It's very strange, was wondering if the HT leads or rectifiers could be breaking down under heavy load??

Noggy, I am happy to wait, don't live far from you in Merthyr and my In-Laws live in Pontyates, Carmarthen.

If fizzy pies still want the engine then no worries, let me know if he changes his mind.

Noggy,

What's the engine like? What's the mileage on it?

I should have one spare in a few weeks time, see the following link (2nd Post) for a pic of the bike with no end can, you can see the stainless steel link pipe on the standard downpipes. I don't need it for my new can.
