right, cleaned the main connectors under the left hand infill panel got the pass button working again but still the same dashboard short so
can someone point me int eh direction of the earth connection on the bike please.

The fairing is easily removed as once the infil panels and screen have been removed it is only held on by four screws, oh and not forgetting the connectors behind the dashboard.

got a short that occurs on my dash when i put the high beam on or use the pass button where the milage and certain lights go off then come back on with the oil light staying on for a few seconds.

guy at mot thought it might be the handle bar swith so took a punt and changed it, unfortunatly has not cured the issue and now i find that my pass button is not working either on my old switch or my new one, therefore could a faulty relay be the problem?

All the other buttons work fine and checked the terminal connentor when i changed the swith over and ended up cleaning it up.

I had the same problem with mine whilst riding on the motorway, i checked everything ended up at the local bike shop and they found that the fuse had blown but was not visable until a meter was put accross the terminals.

so for the cost of a 10amp fuse i would just change it and see if it makes a difference.

Basically the AA guy double checked everything I had checked before calling them as I was hoping it was just a fuse...but they are all ok.

the only thing different he did to me was put a voltmeter to the brake light switch on the handle bar and say that there was no power goung to it which was when he said it would have to be a truck job.

This is the confusing bit. Got no back light on rev counter or speedo but the neutral light, indicator lights oil light all work fine.

high beam will work off the pass button but not the rocker switch, bike starts at a touch of the button and stops via the cut of switch,  so I do not know what it could be first thought when I pulled over was the fuses but check these out and all ok the only other thought I have is a earth problem or a short somewhere but as I use the bike as my only means of transport can't afford to have it off the road while I try and trace the issue.

I adjusted the cable at last service and checked it over, when I get a chance I will record the sound and see if I can post it here.

« on: 28 January 2015, 09:35:48 am »
Hi All,

My 02 fazer has just gone past the 60000 mark and has developed a couple of issues:-
First off I am getting an annoying knock which sounds like it is coming from the top end, couple of local bike shops have told me not to worry as these are just 'wear noises due to the mileage' which I am a little dubious about.
Second :- changing gear has become difficult, all the gears can be selected and don't jump out however when changing up the gearbox feels very stiff with the gear level remaining in the up position for several seconds before returning to the normal position.
this only happens changing up the gears, changing down the gears everything feels normal.
Any ideas what could be causing these and are the they an easy fix?

Cheers

Sorry for the late reply.

I managed to get the bike sorted the following day so big thanks to all the advice given very much appreciated.

All I have to do now is sort out a new alarm / immobiliser for the bike.

I stripped mine out myself with the bypass method following a video of someone removing one from an FZS1000, didn't take long. Where abouts are you based, there might be someone local who could help.

Simon

Had a look for this video but could not find it, can you remember the link for it.

Remove the plug/socket at the end of the Alarm unit,
Does it have 18 pin socket only or 18 pin Socket and a 2 pin socket at one side?
Let me know which and I will pm you the bypass for it.

Hi Mate, It is just the single 18 pin plug.

Had a go at removing the alarm this morning, got the whole back end stripped to expose the loom and who ever fitted the alarm has done a damn good job as the wires that I have managed to trace are not spliced into the loom but go straight to the connectors so cannot just cut the wires out and re-connect them  :'(

Cheers for the advice

FZS600 Fazer / meta 357 alarm problems
« on: 25 March 2014, 06:23:08 pm »
Hi all

I have a 2002 FZS600 which already had a Meta 357 alarm fitted, gone to start the bike today and it refused to turn over I did not even get the ticking at soon as the ignition was turned on.

When I checked the fuses I found the head light fuse had blown, so replaced this then tried again this time I had a load of smoke pour out of the back, once stripped down found that the smoke was from the alarm.

I have tried stripping the wires back but who ever fitted the alarm has done a really good job and cannot trace the source without stripping the rest of the bike.

does anyone know if there is a second unit I need to disconnect for this alarm which would mean I could leave the alarm wiring in place or is it a case that the whole lot has to be stripped out?

Cheers

cheers mate checked the sprocket and nut the weekend and all was ok, that was along the lines of my thinking but was not sure as the last time I had to change the chain all it did was continually stretch.

FZS600 Fazer / Help Unusual vibration / rubbing on a 2002 foxeye
« on: 16 July 2013, 08:28:06 pm »
Hi All,

Need some help, I have an unusual vibration / rubbing sensation coming through my left foot peg which started last week.
On sat I cleaned and checked my chain and all seams ok ie no broken or bent teeth on front or rear sprocket and no play in the front sprocket / bearing, I check the chain for the amount of stretch and noticed that I have about 140 / 145mm of stretch between 10 links (this was measured according to the Haynes manual which states about 150mm max.) I also have done approx. 24000 on this chain so I know that It will need changing very soon.
Just got back from a round trip on the motorway from Birmingham to Luton, when I got the bike in the garage I checked the back wheel and found no play in the wheel bearing and that nothing was catching when I spun the wheel, but I did notice a small squeak at a certain point which I think came from around the front sprocket area.
could this be the chain making the noise as it is almost worn out or the drive shaft bearing?
If it is the bearing what should I check for?

Cheers all
