Divided opinion on whether to change float bowl gaskets or not.. Me personally I would change them, particularly if they are the originals as once flattened and then disturbed can be prone to weeping..

I've had my bowls off probably 4 or 5 times and they're still fine ;)

I did say "can" and not "will"  :D

put some rubber from an old bicycle inner tube under each of the infill fairing screws to stop the bloody things buzzing

Made some lovely anti buzz strips out of push bike inner tube too, to fit between fairing and support brackets directly under the mirrors.. Bloody buzzing was drivin me bananas.. Old Skool.. Proper  :thumbup

It was really easy, only took me a few hours, and you dont have to resort to having one of those awful wingracks on your bike.

Yup those wingracks although practical, have never been the prettiest of add ons  :)

+1 for bike specific oil.. semi synth for me personally.. Known quite a few to use regular oil without a hitch but wouldnt recommend it... Free oil does have a certain appeal tho  ;)

Yup Supermaxx.. Bizarrely Mate had a set of Maxxis sport similar time and couldnt wait to bin them too..
Now that's wierd, the sport tyres are supposed to be quite good, because certain race schools use them with a lot of success.
I can't say I've used them though, they're quite soft and wouldn't last me 5 minutes. I only get 2500 ish out of s/t tyres!!!!

Not slating Maxxis in general as I do kind of like their product on my mountain bike  :D

There can be a big difference in tyres but for your average road rider I think a lot of tyre confidence is in your head. If everyone says a certain tyre is great you're going to trust the tyre and be more confident and relaxed on the bike whereas if you think you've got rubbish tyres you're far more likely not to trust them and bail out through corners or get on the brakes early or stiffen up when it gets a bit wet because you've convinced yourself they're rubbish. In reality if you gave the same tyre to a really good rider he'd probably push them much harder than you would with no problems

No seriously the Maxxis were cr@p  :b ... and Stevie I wouldnt knock 'em If I hadnt tried 'em  ;)

Been tempted before to put on a 120 due to so much more choice and availability.. Personally if Yamaha say 110, then 110 it is for me..

As far as I'm aware there should be a slot both top and bottom on the end caps so there shouldnt be a right or wrong way up either side..

Neither of my fzs's have had silent gearboxes at certain speeds in certain gears... My old 12 used to whine more than my ex wife  :rollin

A loud exhaust can should help cure the whining if one isnt fitted already  :thumbup .... The knocking is another matter..

More than likely find the small drain holes in the end caps are blocked too... Remove them, clean and ensure holes are free from debris.. Dont be surprised if water has built up in the swingarm.. Bit of copperslip grease sparingly around that area wouldnt go amiss..

May be an idea to get rid of all the five year old fuel and associated debris, if there is any in there.. Will be lucky to escape a carb strip should fuel have been left in the bike..

Even tho I love the character or carburettors, that simple prod on the injected bike starter button no matter what the temperature, is kind of cool  :)

For Sale & Wanted / Re: 2003 Fazer 600 £1750
« on: 27 April 2014, 12:25:11 am »
You might want to do a rethink on the price as you are probably at least 200 over the average price in a private sale with the fairing damage and absolutely no extras. ;)

To be fair it does have one those grippy seat covers for the pillion  :thumbup

Foxeyes on a Boxeye... Improved rearward vision but imo they never look quite right..
