Thanks Fazerider - I'll give those a go. If it's still not working I'll have to stop being so tight and just replace it. After nearly 20 years of use it doesn't really owe me anything!

Hi, are there any audio-techies (not sure thats a word) out there? I have an old Denon UCD-90 CD player that has stopped reading the discs. It will initially spin up but cannot read or display any info. I have tried lens cleaning but no change. Any-one have any ideas/answers and if it is economical to fix (Richer Sounds do a similar player for £100). Any info very much appreciated. Ta.

Checked my front sprocket last year and found nut and shaft completely knackered. Contacted local dealer (Skellerns) they checked with Yamaha and, after taking a few measurements, agreed to fix the whole lot FOC! And this on a 12 year old 28k bike. The repair took longer than ideally i would have liked (about 3 weeks) but i was just amazed they agreed to do it. You also get a free oil and filter change out of it ;) .

Mother-in-law asked what I'd like for xmas. I presented her with a nice list, all bike related and something to suit every budget.
Come xmas morning I got to mother-in-laws gift (last in my pile - I'd already opened the other one!) and unwrapped, to complete amazement, ........... a new shirt!?
Bugger! :\

Thanks for the advice/suggestions guys. Hopefully the 'unplug and plug back in' will do the job. I don't mind hammers and spanners but usually end up getting my wires crossed with electrics! :o  Hope to have time this weekend between buying a tree, wrapping presents, cleaning bike and car, prepping car for MOT (what a stupid time of year for an MOT) and ferrying kids around Gloucestershire.

FZS600 Fazer / Fuel gauge problem
« on: 15 December 2011, 07:49:34 pm »
Anyone know a quick fix for this? Filled her up, gauge went to full, after 100 miles gauge still showed full - funny, i thought. After 175 miles warning light flickers on (hmm, that still works then). Needle goes up & down when I turn on & off but when powers on stays permanently up (dream on misses). It's not an essential fix but it is a bit annoying! Any ideas out there?

I was surprised myself and feel very fortunate that Yamaha agreed to carry this work out on a bike of this age.
When the nice lady at Skellerns looked into the bikes history (only very early stuff) there was no record of any modification to this area. She went on to say that, in their experience, as long as the parts involved were 'out of tolerance' then, generally, yamaha would agree to the work. All parts are shipped from Holland - so a couple of days wait there - then about 12 hours labour.
Can't wait to get the old girl back now. Fed-up with sitting motionless in queues of traffic every day.

GOOD NEWS! Before taking rod (welding) in hand, and risking spatter on my o-rings, I decided to give those nice people at Yamaha a ring. Turns out a mod should have been carried out during a service at some point and, assuming affected parts were out of tolerance, this - and any resulting repair work - could be done now foc.
I got the bike into a local dealers (Skellerns - Cheltenham - seem very efficient) who took measurements of the parts, sent them off to Yamaha, next day Yamaha came back saying yes they will foot the bill.
So, if anyone is still suffering with this problem, get your local dealer to check the bikes history. It's much better than risking spatter! :lol

Info and pic much appreciated. I'm off to persuade neighbour, who has welding kit, that he could do this for a beer or two! :)

Thanks for the reply. That's pretty much what I thought, just wondered if anyone had recent dealings with yamaha on the subject. There's about one turn of good thread on the shaft to get the nut started, after that it is flattened off. I think I'll re-cut the thread to get the nut on and then weld it. One spot sufficient or two for good measure?

Hello all. I've been looking for a while now and found some great info and tips. Thought it about time I said hello. I've been riding a gold '99 FZS600 between Gloucester and Cheltenham for about 4 months now. On a couple of occaisions I have seen another similar looking bike. Are you on here? Any other members in the area?
Also, posted a question tonight re. front sprocket nuts - can anyone help?

FZS600 Fazer / Front sprocket - again!!
« on: 08 November 2011, 09:21:46 pm »
Oh dear, just changed rear tyre, chain and both sprockets. All fine apart from the (common I now see) front sprocket nut, washer, shaft problem. Nut = knackered; washer = knackered; thread on shaft = knackered.
Has anyone had any recent dealings with Yamaha regarding this? Will they do a free shaft replacement on a 1999, 30K FZS600?
I will contact them myself tomorrow but don't want to get fobbed-off by anyone. If they are not doing this repair (to parts not fit for purpose) is there another quick fix i.e cut new thread onto shaft and source a different nut.
