It was a bank transfer from one personal account to another, no credit card or paypal involved. Payment to the bank had a marker saying what it was for.
Money was available and has been transferred to another account. So all looks ok on that front.
Well from what you've said there, I don't think there is anything to worry about but you are right to be cautious, better to be save than sorry.
If the guy has paid upfront in the manner he has, I would be more than happy to go with the deal and as he was good with his word, yoy should be well pleased and return the favour to him by making sure all the relevant paperwork is done and dusted for him. But as I say in my work everyday...."do a C.M.A. exercise everytime"
[/quote

Now have the courier details and tracking/order numbers and they all check out. They're a dedicated bike courier.

Dvla said to post him the filled in V5, but send a covering letter to them.

All seems ok. Thanks very much for all the replies.

Supposed to be a reputable company, not just a man in his van. Told him we're expecting to see the relevant paperwork.

Been to the bank this morning. Asked the same questions again as last night. It was a bank transfer from one personal account to another, no credit card or paypal involved. Payment to the bank had a marker saying what it was for.
Money was available and has been transferred to another account. So all looks ok on that front. Will take the advice on the photos and courier documentation though.

Thanks for that sinto, varied responses on those,  but general concensus seems to be send it off to dvla unsigned by newnowner.
Rang the bank last night. Money definitely there, available and irretrievable by sender. We'll transfer it today though anyway.
Main problem with van hire I've found, especially if you need an early start,  is you have to hire it for a whole weekend, not just a day.

Red98 -I was going to check that with dvla tmrw, and obviously if he was getting rid of a fazer for something else he would be disowned!

Fazersharp - Apparently no problem with giving someone that, I've checked with the bank previously. All that info used to be on cheques didn't it?

Andyfzs - but you knew him or at least of him

Chaz, what did you do with the part of the V5 the new owner gets and other paperwork?
Did you do as Sinto suggests?

Thanks for the replies.
No paypal involved. He has checked his balance at the atm and money is showing in his account. Yes, payment was made by us giving him account no and sort code.
You cant pay direct into a bank account with paypal can you?

And sorry red98, it wasn't a fazer

Hi people, I'm looking for some help/advice.

My son has his bike advertised on ebay, as a classified ad, and someone did a deal over the phone and arranged to buy it without seeing it. Not something I would do, but we've sold his last 2 bikes this way.

The fella was going to transfer a £200 deposit into my son's bank account and then pay cash on collection. Whole price not far off £3k.

My son spoke to him again to arrange the details and he said he was going to transfer the full amount and pick the bike up on Saturday.
He has since spoken to/texted my son and said it was going to cost too much to hire a van for the weekend so was going to arrange for a courier to collect it (he lives 250 miles away).

My son has checked his account and the full amount has been transferred. Obviously we are going to check with the bank that the funds are there and available and not able to be recalled by the buyer. In fact we'll even get the money out of that account into another before Saturday and won't let the bike go until funds are available.

Does this sound ok to people?? I've never done a deal this way before.

Thanks,
Shaun

My can just said 'S3' on it, which if I remember corectly was a code the local supplier came up with for silver tech.
I looked on the rspaints website and silver tech was the only silver option for my 2003 model

I never read anything properly!
Yeah, that looks right, and I don't think there were any more silvers at that model year from what I could find.
I'll check my can when I get home.

Damn fine looking bike!
Having read you op properly, I see it was only engine touch up you were after anyway.

Bigbluebear,

Hopefully a picture of mine is attached, which I think is silver tech. I had some paint made up in a rattle can at a local suppliers to spray the grab rails. The metallic flakes are maybe a bit more coarse than original, it's not really noticeable on the grab handles, but you would notice it if you were touching up. I can try and get the info from the can later if you like?

Doesn't really answer the OP, but spotify has a free version that you can have a play with before taking the plunge and  subscribing. There's an advert about every 3 songs if you listen to an album, but no dj drivel. I've had a couple of bands I couldn't find on there though and you can't download to play later with the free version.

As stated on the can on Noggy's pic, it needs to be silicate free (silicates can damage water pumps or seals I think I've read before??) and also say suitable for aluminium engines.
Do premixed bike specific coolants have more anti corrosives in them and better cooling properties?
Does mixing non premixed with tap water increase chance of limescale build up?

I think vera is grounded at the moment with engine trouble. Hope they can get it fixed. It's a fantastic sight and sound when both lancs are in the air.  I live not far from where the BOB memorial flight is based and you never tire of seeing or hearing them

A few years ago we had some TFR in the pressure washer at work.
I used it once to clean my car when it was really filthy. Afterwards I really struggled to apply the polish, it just dragged. It was even worse trying to buff it off, i just couldn't get a decent finish. Never again.

Do you mean the decal that is about 250mm long? Large 'Fazer' lettering with '100 exup' underneath in small lettering?
I got mine just over a year ago from CMC in Nottingham, cost abou £30 I think. I was also told these were never laquered over from new.

While polish may not hurt the water repellency,  I wouldn't think it would be good for the breathabilty of the goretex. Check on the manufacturers website for aftercare advice.

There's a facebook group called Biker Booty and someone is breaking a cbr1000fj. It's tatty, but the seat might be a goer by the look of it. There seems to be 2 Biker Booty groups, but it the one with the most members and the skull for an icon.

General / Re: Legal advise needed guys (sorry not fazer related)

I'm no law expert, but it could be down to the wording in the ad.
If you said 'no damp' rather than 'no damp that I'm aware of' maybe that could make a difference.
I'm sure I read somewhere in cases like this that even in private sales goods must be as described.
Not that I'm saying it was damp, but to outsiders, until professionally proven one way or the other, it's his word against yours!
I suppose also, if £200 was a large mark down on the asking price, then you have that on your side, especially he said that was for a service. They would have damp tested it as part of that service and then he's getting a mate to do it!
Also, most caravans will have a certain amount of damp in the wooden framework and walls. I think upto about 10% is no cause for concern. I would also think that £1300 worth of damp would have been easily seen!
Hope you get it sorted ok.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: manual camchain tensioner fitment guide
« on: 17 July 2013, 11:35:54 am »
I don't know if it's applicable on the Fazer, but I recently fitted one of these to my son's drz400 and the fitting guide recommended that the engine was set to TDC before removing the old tensioner, otherwise when the chain becomes slack there is a chance that it could jump a tooth on the sprockets.
