ive had 98, 03 and 08 forks on mine, whish id just started with the 08 setup, if your going to make the front end better might as well have a set of sixpots on there too, transforms the braking. Got to have an r1 front wheel/brakes/spindle but its worth the extra i reckon.

« on: 03 September 2013, 06:40:40 pm »
found the fault.....striped back the covering from the ignition switch wires and found that the black alarm wire which is connected to the live in wire had melted itself to the sidelight wire making it live. Bikes got no alarm now , i cut it out years ago, so i'll remove the alarm wire from the ignition insulate the others and she should be good to go.  :D

yeah......got a meter on it today and with the ignition turned off I'm still getting power through it and back to the loom putting the side lights on. Need to extract the ignition barrel bolts now and get a look at the contacts.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / another maybe ignition swith problem
« on: 01 September 2013, 04:46:31 pm »
havent seen this before but .......noticed the lights stayed on behind the clocks now when the key is taken out. If you then put the side lights on (no key in the ignition here) it activates the starter relay and dash warning lights, as well as putting the lights on, and you can push the starter button and crank the motor over. SoI pulled the block connecter (one of two) conected to the ignition switch under the tank which seems to disconnect the side lights and dash lights and the bike then behaves normally without the side lights/dash lights and rear lamp of course.
so....ignition switch or maybe the light switch ? or could it be a relay at fault ?
When the ignition switch is in the off position the system should be dead yes ?
I'll carry on the head scratching here but cant get my multimeter till the morning so any things to check letme know
cheers

For Sale & Wanted / FOR SALE: fazer1000 gen 1 Diggers Seat
« on: 23 April 2013, 09:51:58 pm »
Modded by Diggers seats. Mods to the seat are slightly lower and wider with the front built up slightly to stop you sliding into the tank. Just needs the std seat catch attaching to fit. Much more comfortable than the std seat. More padding to pillion section too.

£85 posted
cheers

'08 R1 front end on mine, it has basically transformed the bike. Used to get a lot of "shimy" from the bike when pushing through bumpy corners etc and put it down to the chassis flexing and a heavy bike but after the r1 mod its literaly like a new bike. I also have maxton GP25 internals fitted, looks pretty cool too. Got the 6pot calipers on which has tranformed the braking too. The original calipers really are shite in comparison.
Got some usd forks if you want to buy a set, mint gold ones from a '03 R1

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Head Bearing Adjustment
« on: 16 April 2013, 08:14:45 am »
there does seem to be quite a big range where the bearings are fine, mine i like to do them tight, so the bars wont flop to one side when the front wheel is off the ground (on the stand). As long as theres no back/foward movement front the front end they'll pass themot but I always go for a tighter set up. If you try to set them without the front wheel in, the movement needs to be fairly stiff cause when the wheel goes back in adds a lot more weight. Used to set my supermotos so you could feel the notchiness of tight bearings then slacken by a 1/4 of a turn, spot on, cured a lot of bar flapping.

the old maxxis touring tyres were rubbish, the later diamondmax ones seem to have been greatly improved though, got a set on my thou and so far have been spot on, will be better informed when they get a few thousand miles on them like, but atm they feel like a bargain.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Screens
« on: 10 January 2013, 04:45:39 pm »
Ive had a few different screens and they're all pretty rubbish, if you go bigger then the buffeting replaces the wind blast, smaller screens give more windblast but the air is cleaner with less turbulance which actually makes the std screen a good compromise. No screen on is actually pretty good !

mityvac is good as long as you put a turn of plumbers tape on the bleed nipples threads, or it'll just suck in air. Large syringe works good too...push the fluid up from the caliper to master, will take a couple mins to do the whole job with the 2 line. With any way though you'll probably still need the loosen nipple, pull clutch in, tighten nipple repeat method to get the job right. As said tape clutch lever in overnight, should force tiny bubbles out the system

General / Re: old bike location

how do you go about tracing your old bike?
I would like to find out where my old Fazer 600,03 model is. sold it in 09.
I've tried the DVLA but can't find the link.

Theres a form to download from the dvla website to get the address of the registered keeper. I think you need a good reason tho for them to release the info https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla#other-ways-to-apply

used motobatt now for a while on my bikes and cant fault them, still got a yuasa 14b on the fazer and its been spot on too. Its been on for maybe 2 years and starts the bike straight up even when its left standing for weeks.

« on: 13 December 2012, 12:47:13 pm »
ok...never one to hang around...heres the latest mod, cheap as chips from fleabay 08 4c8 forks with GP25 cartridge kit, few marks but fit in with the rest of my bike !!,  r1 wheel and 6pot calipers. Just need the temp to come up a couple of clicks to try them out ! The 08 forks are a bit longer than the 03's I had in so going to try them without the fork extenders to start with, see how it feels.

you could always use renthal 658s too, i tried them but found the riding position a little aggressive, over the front of the bike kind of stance rather than relaxed if you know what i mean

will lowering the bars not make things worse, i mean put more weight on your arms.

the other method would be to use extended caps like race teams do, pretty sure the likes of ohlins produce them. Or custom top clamp. I'd think there would have to be some major movement going on to stress the bottom clamp enough to cause a problem.  The problem could even be that the length of the extender could result in less flexing of the fork as the top and bottom yokes twist under normal conditions....or just get a set of fz1 forks and fit them...bit thin on the ground tho.
Its all good fun and keeps the interest going which is the main thing.....

'spose we're talking in a perfect world here, there maybe the tiniest bit of movement but I cant see how that will make any difference, when you fit the extenders they dont drop on and rattle about, my pics make the extenders look as they are too big but the top of the fork increases in diameter just inside the bottom of the extender, the forks will more than likely move in the clamps too as they cant be a perfect fit either but that never worried me. I think the point is the forks arn't going anywhere. I am 100% happy with the way this is fitted, if your happy with using a drilled out r1 top clamp and a low bike then theres no need for this mod anyway

extenders are machined to be a perfect fit, when you fit them you spray wd40 or similar onto the fork leg and slide them on, this causes a hydrolic lock and they cant be removed unless heated up. The tops are caps and simply remove to adjust settings. The top clamp will work with 03 bikes and 07 on bikes as they use the same offset, 25mm, earlier yokes are 35mm and the 04-06 are 30mm, heres a handy table i nicked from the usa site, cant rememer who posted it but good work.

Ok...so this is another r1 front end conversion, nothing new really  :rolleyes but thought i'd post up pics of the fz1 tope yoke mod supplied by devilsyam, fits str8 on with no issues and totally solves the problem of the front being too low. Forks/yoke and spindle from an 03 bike. I'll run with this for a bit unless an '07 on set of forks/calipers appears !

« on: 18 November 2012, 06:41:52 pm »
i just think the std mirrors are pretty bad, tried the muzzy(?)mod but it just looks wierd, had bar end mirrors which have been the best so far, so its down to the bar mounted now, had them on other bikes and been spot on so hopefully they'll be the same on the fazer. Thx for the info

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / bar mounted mirror Q
« on: 17 November 2012, 08:24:58 pm »
going to put a set of bar mounted mirrors on and was wondering what others have done. The right hand looks simple enough using the mount already there, is that reverse thread in there ?
Left side was thinking one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bike-Universal-Motorcycle-Mirror-Mounting-Bracket-Suit-22mm-Bar-10mm-Thread-/310475330568?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item4849c59408 which I assume will be normal/right hand thread.
Now then.....If I buy a set of yamaha mirrors will they both be left hand thread, both right hand or one of each ?  :'( :lol

any help welcome........ :)
