I'm sure I had to buy a 32mm one from Halfords, turned out it wasn't that tight when I came to take the sprocket off, but made sure it was bloody tight when I put the new one on!!
I'm sure Luke meant 32mm too unless he has made a new mod recently  :b

Ditto the above, mine is an '04 and it has both. Though can't say I ever use them much, if at all!

might be worth taking it off so you can clean any old crud off of it. what do the rest of you guys use to clean the chain that really works without damaging the rubber seals?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: importing FZ1-N ABS to the US
« on: 30 April 2012, 12:49:03 pm »
Hi,
If it is in any way the same process as importing a car you will a 'Certificate of Conformity', which you should be able to obtain from Yamaha themselves. They should be your first port of call. I had to get one when I imported a car to France from the UK, but it cost £100 just for a poxy sheet of A4 with the cars details on it, that I had to supply them from the VIN plate and the log book! However the car was (is) nearly 20 years old so was not on their (VW) database, given you have a gen2, max age 6yrs old, it maybe an easier process to get the certificate, and hopefully cheaper too.
Good luck

Another vote for the tuning forks, I have them on mine and I prefer them to a mate's wordy ones.
Where did you get the lower fairing panels from I knew you could get them for the gen2 but didn't know gen1 ones were available????

Something like back to black may make the cover look newer but any kind of polish will make you slide around quite a bit!! Maybe something like leather renovator but again slidey (if that's a word)????

Cable, it would be good to know your opinion of the triumph 12 esp if you have tried the GS and can make a comparison, I ask mainly due to now getting sore neck and knees on the Gen 1 and find myself having to sit very upright and stretching legs a lot more than I ever used to.

Also on  a totally different note to AyJay I had the opportunity to take the new ZZR1400  out but didn't have the paper bit of my license handy  :(  so would be interested to  :( ear your views on that too.

I always feel like that after trying other bikes, they are usually great, nice and showroom shiny and with modern parts FI ABS TC AWC and lots of other nice toys to go wrong then I ask myself can they offer all the things the Gen 1 can and so far the answer has been no. Sat on the crossthingythe other day and it seemed huge but I will try the new Triumph 1200 when it comes out just in case........

Bloody hell, I don't think mine was that clean when I collected it from the showroom!! Lovely bikes though.
What do you guys use to clean the headers and where can I get some??

« on: 14 April 2012, 09:47:56 pm »
Just to add my tupence ha'penny worth(?) I've had my 04 gen 1 from new and when I replaced my C and S the front had a plastic insert in it. That said the it showed little wear and the chain was only about 1cm longer than the replacement one. Never noticed any increase in noise given that the repalcement frnot sporocket was par of a DID kit with no plastic bit and I ride with a open helmet (!) Today I rode with a full face helmet and ear plugs and was a bit scared by the extra 10 mph corner entry speed!! Then again could get used to it  :)

« on: 14 April 2012, 09:42:41 pm »
Mine, like a great many others does the same the same thing, it is the EXUP servo doing its re-aligning thing, just as Mike said,  and its never been a problem. Thought about watching the Grand National but as it wasn't raining here took the bike for a 90 nile run to local DIY shop much more fun in my opinion!

I had the same thing, I took took plugs out all looked ok, still shite below 3000 or so but fine above that.
Changed plugs and air filter ran like a dream since then, maybe worth a try esp if plugs not been changed for a while.

Another vote for using the clutch and I have had my gen1 from new, but it hardly ever 'finds' a false neutral. Suzuki are known for slick boxes so yoiu may have been spoilt :) I have tried a GS1200 and that had a lovely change but not sure I could get used to the huge vibes below 3500 rpm.
Cheers

I believe there is always some play in the back, 1 or 2 mm, I found on mine that I just needed to retorque the swingarm pivot but on the ground not on the stand.
