I have now managed to get a 2nd hand pc5 from an R1 but I am unsure about one thing. In the instructions for the R1 there is a single grey wire that is to be attached to the number 5 wire in the ecu. What I want to know is this the same on the FZ1?
Has anybody fitted a pc5 from an R1 or has anybody fitted a pc5 meant for an FZ1 and it has the same grey wire to the ecu?
I am wary about connecting it just in case I make a balls up!

Keep it! I bought my FZ1 a month ago after having a gen 1 1000 for six years. I am still getting used to it but the handling is so much better, the front feels really planted. I do find the back end feels a bit hard but have not played with it yet.

After finding the 2nd hand power commander a workmate had was for a completely different bike and I could not fit it to my FZ1, I decided to block off the ais because I found the exhaust popping was becoming annoying and blocking off the ais is meant to reduce/stop it.
So I capped the pipe that goes to the air box first.
Then I found a little red cap to block the air box hole off with. ( Matches the colour scheme of the bike as it is red and black) :) .
Then I ordered a new air filter as the state of the one in the bike was pretty bad. :\

changes the chain and sprockets on saturday.....considering they were supposed to have been done recently they were fecked!!

front sprocket hooked and looks like some muppet turned it round to increase milage use  :eek

now have x ring with nice new sprockets......what a difference already :)

If I were you now I would be checking the bike over intensely just in case there are any other bodges.Stuff like that makes me paranoid.
At least now you know the chain and sprockets are good. :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: power comander 3
« on: 23 June 2014, 03:20:44 pm »
:o The guy at work brought the power commander round to my house this afternoon and it does not fit my bike. The wiring plugs are completely different. The part number on it is unreadable so we could not even find out which bike it is meant to fit. He bought it second hand himself to put on an 2006 R1 which was written off before he fitted it so it looks like he got the wrong one in the first place.
Time to dig deep and buy a new one I think.

I am looking at buying a second hand pc3 but there is no software disc or usb cable with it. I assume I could just get an usb cable from maplins that would do the job so not too bothered about that. Is the software disc  necessary? Also do I need to disable the O2 sensor?
I am not bothered about fitting instructions as I found a youtube vid that showed how to do it but would I need the instructions to show me how to download a map for it and set it up correctly.
Or am I just better off splurging 3 times the cost of the second hand one and buying a new one?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

What does the mod do actually do? My bike is standard except for an end  can, does the mod work best with a power commander?

Get a new one and sprockets, once a chain develops a tight spot it is buggered.Imagine the consequences if it snapped!

Screaming at you....FAZER THOU....way better than a ZRX....my mate had one and my Fazer absolutely tanked it
Totally agree, I had a ZRX before I got my first fazer, the fazer is so much better in every way.

That surprises me. I like the way it looks retro 70's sort of thing, real sort of muscle bike. A mate of mine sold his SV650, bought a Bandit 1200, hated it, sold it and returned to an SV650. Which is what I'm thinking of doing with the Fazer if needs be. What makes the ZRX seem a poor choice to a FZS600 in your opinion?

They do look good but they are heavy and do not handle any way as good as a fazer. I had my ZRX for 2 years and as soon as I had a test ride on a fazer I knew I had to get one.

Why not get a longer brake cable?  Hel and Goodridge should  do custom length lines.

Use very fine wet and dry at first, see if that improves the finish.

General / Re: Crash bungs or engine bars?
« on: 07 June 2014, 02:27:49 pm »
The only advantage of bungs is that they (may) look a bit neater, so putting both on defeats the ony thing bungs have over bars and I think they both use the same mounting points so you wont get both on.

Never thought of that.

Everything you ever wanted to know about them both is here  http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,1655.msg95874.html#msg95874
I would say go for bars and the lower ones are a good option without looking too big

Thanks for that link, I should use the search facility more often!
Now I am thinking to fit bungs and bars, as both seem to have advantages and disadvantages.
