nearly FAZERIDER  :) had to replace it last year , bikes a 98 so lasted 19 years  :thumbup  Bought an identical replacement GS YUSSA , bet you it dosn't last as long......... :rolleyes

Ah, OK. Perhaps they are getting rare now.  :lol
You don’t get this sort of lifetime without it being a top-notch battery, I’m sure you won’t regret buying the same again.
Mine’s had an easy life up to now… they definitely thrive on regular use, I’ve never needed to put it on charge. Now my commuting days are over (I got made redundant in summer) it is probably going to need an occasional maintenance charge.

Early Fazers still on their first batteries aren’t that rare. 
Mine spins the motor up OK and IIRC Red98 is on the original too. :)

Little bike is a ybr125, not sure if its 12v or 6v but that's a good idea Millietant.
Asking a 5AH battery to start a 600cc motor that’s not been turned over in 3 months is a tall order.  I’d use a car battery.

If you want to try His Dudeness’s suggestion of paralleling the batteries, you can use a 21 W indicator bulb in series (i.e between the two positive terminals) as a current limit. If it glows brightly that’s good news, keep it in circuit until it goes out. That way, if the battery is recoverable you won’t damage it with an excessive charging current.

Pull cable is longer than push, so it makes sense pull goes at the back and push to the front.

The butterflies aren’t lubricated by fuel, the float bowls being empty won’t have any effect.
I put a drop of oil as near as possible to each bearing point on the pivot shaft, but if the bank of butterflies turn smoothly and snap back OK when the cables aren’t there that doesn’t sound like the cause.

Is it friction at the twistgrip itself?
You may have the rubber grip rubbing against the body of the pulley housing, or the bar end weight pressing on the outer end of the grip.

So did I until a couple of weeks ago. Two days after starting this measuring malarky I started waking up in the middle of the night needing a piss! Fucking annoying.


PSA test was done, and didn’t cause alarm, though from what I read it doesn’t give especially reliable results anyway… and neither does the finger-up-the-bum test, I think the medics just get off on the humiliation aspect. Ultrasound scan revealed an enlarged prostate, but flow rate and emptying are good, it was more the cloudiness that puzzles me. I assume it is due to the beating I get from riding over the appalling roads round here which was why I was asking.


I just checked on some cyclist forums as I guess they would be affected more since they have harsher (no) suspension, but it doesn’t appear to be a routine thing for them… though it does get mentioned in association with kidney stones. Something to raise at my next appointment. :'(

Over the past few years I’ve noticed I need to pee more often.
At first it was just a bit difficult getting to work without needing to stop… my kidneys seem to operate flat-out in the morning so an hour-long commute was enough to make it pretty desperate by the time I arrived. More recently it’s got worse in that I can be in urgent need of a piss even when my bladder is only one third full.
Probably this is down to age (late 50’s), but thought I’d better get it checked out.
The hospital urology unit told me to keep a record of fluid intake and output so lately I’ve been pissing in a measuring jug… which has revealed the fact that after I’ve been out on the bike for an hour my urine is cloudy whereas the rest of the time it’s crystal clear. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed a similar effect?

Hmm, while half of us on here will have had the CG125 as their first bike I think things have moved on a bit in the last 40-odd years. I know they updated it from the 6V electrics and front drum, but even so.
Can't see the point of storing a bike you're not going to use, I’d get shot of it and when the time comes consider something like a KTM Duke for example… at least you can use the ABS as a selling point to a worried mum.

I took a trip to the south coast today for the Portsmouth fireworks. To get a good spot I arrived early and hung around in a very stiff breeze for a long time and was bloody glad of all the biking gear I can tell you…

Aside from one trip to the Lake District and a couple to the West Country pretty much all mine’s done is 20 years of commuting too. Clocking up so many miles getting to and from work meant I didn’t have much of an urge to add more during time off.

Yes, it is a bit cynical to join a union only when you discover you need one, you'll probably hear the phrase "deathbed conversion". Nonetheless they'll gain more from your subs than they expend if you're only asking for advice rather than representation.
In my case the subscriptions were debited from my bank account, not deducted from salary... and that was for a union recognised by my employer. Since my initial dispute I remained a member and continue to be one despite having been made redundant 4 months ago. I'll cease that once i'm satisfied that my former employer has finally paid what they owe me, but the union won't have lost out on my account.

The trade union to join should be the one related to your profession. For some job descriptions there may be more than one that is appropriate.
Your employer may not "recognise" the relevant union, but that won't matter if you're just making use of the union's legal expertise. I'd expect them to be happy to offer guidance as soon as they have your first subscription.

When my line manager was being an arse a few years ago I joined the union and had access to their experienced legal personnel.

Like Peugeot before them, they’ve done a clever job on the front end geometry to make it work... but it’s not for me, it’s far too heavy and wide.
Last night I filtered through miles of rush hour traffic on my way home, the Niken would just have become part of the queue. The same applies to a lot of overweight bikes too, of course, and I wouldn’t want one of them either.
I guess it’ll appeal to those who don’t have the confidence to ride a bike but still want the feeling of leaning the right way round corners.
