When I was into serious trail riding, there’s a waterproof spark plug holder that everyone used for their spare plug, that has a screw top. If your key would fit in one of those, they’re only around £5-£6.

A two minute shower approaching Dartmoor was all the rain we got on Thursday. Friday was a trip to Looe in the sunshine. With a wind warning of 58mph on Saturday I was glad I could get us pitched against a tall hedgerow, which would protect us from the expected NW to Westerly winds. Fortunately the winds didn’t amount to much, maybe being in a valley helped a lot. Sunday was a perfect biking day, with the waterproofs securely packed away and a nice breakfast stop just before Exeter we made good time until going our various ways at Camberley. Plenty of average speed cameras have sprouted up since I was down that way last year. Will be a bit twitchy when the postman delivers over the next few weeks :rolleyes

Nor would I. Always have valuables in the sleeping bag with me, no matter where I'm camping.

That’s the problem with cars. If you fancy a bit of diy on them, then you’re in to trolley jacks, axle stands, 1/2” drive socket set etc. Then there’s the problem of where to keep this newly acquired stuff. Great if you’ve a garage or big shed, not much fun if you haven’t.

Just a heads up. It’s the return of the annual Calstock bike rally and show next weekend. Entertainment starts on the Thursday evening Aug 3rd. Usually have around a dozen bands performing over the weekend. Pay on the gate for camping. Current forecast is for rain :'( ,but can’t sit around waiting for the sun to come out.

If it’s the same size as the 1000, I just force fitted a 27mm socket into a length of hollow tube. Ran some Araldite around the joint and bound it with some gaffa tape for good measure. Then drilled through the tube at the other end to get a screwdriver through to act as a T bar.

There is a French tank bag manufacturer called Top Sellerie, which is very similar to Baglux. I have their tank harness and bag for my Fazer. Maybe they could supply the necessary spare parts. Failing that, a company called Alfatex(ebay) that make lengths of sturdy velcro that has a buckle loop on one end, in both plastic or metal. I use these for compressing tents to make them easier to get in the accompanying bags. You might be able to make them work. I did replace the side clups on a baglux a few years ago but can't find the details of where I got them from.  Last resort maybe buy the cheapest baglux harness on ebay/gumtree etc and cut off the necessary strap.

I was camping at Donny for WSB, and was amazed at the lack of security. Was never challenged for the camp site wrist band or track entry tickets. They did the same tannoy announcement at Brands as they did at Donny, regarding texting some number if any suspicious activity is noticed. I figured that the biking fraternity would not sit back and watch any just stop oil shenanigans, like the tennis and snooker, and would be quite capable of protecting our own event.

At least she’s mobile until something suitable comes along. We’re sweating on the judges ULEZ  decision that’s supposed to be published tomorrow. There’ll be 3 nice autos for sale in my road alone if it all goes wrong. :'(

Another two wins for 46 at the weekend. The weather on Saturday was more like November than July, the super sport race was a crash fest, fortunately no one seriously hurt.
Tommy dedicated his double to brother Ollie, who he tragically lost 16 years ago. Where has all that time gone.

No the Scott’s aren’t cheap, but trust me they do work. There’s a group of about 10 of us, and every one to a man has them. When we’re away for a week abroad, and the weather turns nasty, you are on the bike all day and every day usually, and being wet would make the trip a total waste of time. I agree on the Gerbings, they do wet out. I use duck wax to try and enhance their waterproof ness on my heated ones, but if you’re in rain long enough they will leak. Rukka Virium(textile) or Rukka Apollo (the leather equivalent), both of which are goretex, are all I’d wear in persistent rain. Again not cheap, but they do what it says on the tin.
I used to use the boot covers before goretex boots came out with success. Can’t remember the make off hand, but I’ll try and find out, might have been made by Held.
As a last resort, pedal bin liners over your socks is a good “get out of jail” option :)

Scott Ergo Pro are the only truly waterproof waterproofs worth considering. Not cheap, but they definitely work. If your boots aren’t goretex, then some cheap boot covers will do the job. Riding in the rain is a chore, but being wet is really miserable especially if you’ve got a long way to go.

Have you got your car yet Grahamm?

147
Have a look at the linked google doc then to page 2 and the "Emissions-based charging structure for resident parking permits  (solo motorcycles) - 12 months" section. It was pointed out over a year ago to them directly that there is "NO SUCH THING as a DIESEL motorcycle!", yet those myopic, belligerent imbeciles have left the "Diesel surcharge" in their illiterate little table...
Royal Enfield did produce diesel engined bikes, but are no longer in production. There is a very active owners club…………..I do get the point you’re making though.

I remember chatting with an RAC guy who said that, these days, for anything more complicated than a flat battery or tyre, it was becoming almost impossible to do roadside repairs any more...

Ain’t that the truth……sadly :'(

I can understand getting a pre-MOT check on a car, because there's things that may not be obvious, eg the bushing mentioned, but it's not like a Check Engine light is easy to miss and simply checking if the lights work is not rocket science!

That was my point. The days of just checking the lights, indicators, horn, washer bottle, give the tyres a kick, are long gone with the advent of engine lights etc. All mechs now will have the magic box of tricks to diagnose any lit warning lights, and in some cases just perform a reset. Having a vehicle fail its mot has a lot more ramifications now, than only a few years ago.

Yeah, quite correct. The mot guy cut my neighbour a bit of slack, as he had no way of getting back home. Moral is, make sure you’ve got money, credit card, bus pass and mobile phone when you’re going for an mot in case it all goes bandy. A few years back I had to get the bus home to get a legal numberplate for my Fireblade, after the mot guy decided to fail it after years of passing it with the moody plate.
