General / Re: Speeding in Europe
« on: 09 May 2017, 11:05:08 am »
To be honest it ruined the ride, we were looking for cameras the whole time, we weren't doing silly speeds anyway, slow through villages etc, I think the only option for a good ride in Europe now is the twisties where if you are doing the speed limit or above you are either talented or off the edge of the cliff.

On the way to the Bol in 2015 I got flashed 4 times, (yeah I know ) nothing came through. maybe changed now. The cameras that got me had no sign and were fixed.

The other thing I think may work, is when your out and the engine is warm rev it past 7000 rpm (when the exup will be fully open ) and it will be less likely to stick.
I bought a 7000mile 04, really clean, well looked after. the valve was seized so bad I had to buy another, the original is still soaking in oil 2 years later ( its a mission now !) I think riding gently and not allowing the valve to fully open causes it to stick and stay in half and half position.

The trouble with laws is they are then set in stone, who wouldn't like to jump on your scooter and head to the beach 1 mile from your camp site with no helmet and no gloves ? just to have a swim or ice cream .
I wouldn't ever ride long distance or fast with no helmet or protective gear but I would like the choice.
If you ride a bike or scooter as if its a car (ie no filtering, wait your turn etc ) you can ride really safely.
I think the more laws the worse it is, choice please.
I have, in the summer nipped up the shops with no helmet just for the badness of doing it and it feels great, you should see the looks you get ! like some bad ass rode into town, when really its the same as no seatbelt (except if your in the back you can hurt someone else with no seatbelt ).try it, but slow....

I used to commute into London 50 miles, and I know sometimes its grim, but I used a 1100 pan Honda, it was the only thing that made it bearable, with hand muffs and heated grips, like a bloody car

When you spend a good 45 minutes cleaning and lubing your chain then cleaning and polishing your wheels only for the chain oil to get thrown every foccing where the next time you ride it 😲😭
I think I saw something recently, like a plastic guard, I think it was bolted on using the wheel spindle. looked like a small blue scoop thing. I will google it

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Gen 1 fork oil capacity/air gap problem
« on: 23 October 2016, 10:37:44 pm »
More than likely they weren't fully drained. I left mine hanging overnight and still had to pump them several more times in the morning to get all the oil out. Even then they didn't quite take the full specified amount of oil. If I were you I'd take them off again and get the air gap right.

I assume you followed the correct procedure to bleed the air from the forks, particularly step 9

8. After filling the front fork leg, slowly stroke the damper rod up and down (at least ten times) to distribute the fork oil.Be sure to stroke the damper rod slowly because the fork oil may spurt out.
9. Slowly stroke the inner tube up and down to distribute the fork oil once more (1 stroke = about 150 mm). Be careful not to stroke the inner tube over 150 mm as this will cause air to enter. If the inner tube is stroke more than 150 mm, repeat steps (10) and (11).
10. Before checking the fork oil level, wait ten minutes until the oil has settled and the air bubbles have dispersed.
cheers for the reply, so assuming yours were drained , the amount or the air gap is wrong ? I cant see dealers playing about draining and measuring fork oil, they would just drain and fill with the specified amount.

Forgot to say, I measured what came out, 800cc.
so allowing for a bit on the rags etc that's about right.
