FZS600 Fazer / starting is harder this week
« on: 01 July 2015, 06:33:55 pm »
Not sure if it is anything to do with the hot weather but this week my fzs600 has started to take longer to fire up on the start button than it has done previously. Usually it starts in the morning first or 2nd go when i press the button for about 2 seconds. Same when i go back to it after work in the car park.

This week, It has taken 2 or 3 pushes of the button for about 4 seconds to get it fired up. This morning was not so bad, it just took a couple of goes but coming home from work today i had to press 3 times for 4 seconds to get it started and the choke was out halfway. Is this happening to others or is my ignition system about to go up the creek?
This is my first four stroke bike so I am not sure how they usually behave, being previously used to only 2 stroke bikes.

FZS600 Fazer / oil warning light
« on: 18 June 2015, 08:56:37 am »
Oil light came on at low revs this morning. I was accelerating at only 4000rpm oil light came on for about 3 seconds then went off. It was not fully warmed as I'd only done about 2 miles. Should i be worried? Its never came on whilst riding before. Oil level seems ok in the window.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Black silicone on cracked inlet rubbers
« on: 06 June 2015, 12:57:32 pm »
You've got nothing to lose at all by doing that, i would've thought it might be better if the rubbers were warm, but it probably doesn't really matter.

Ok thanks, I will smooth some into the cracks tonight then before sun goes down then it has all night to cure.

FZS600 Fazer / Black silicone on cracked inlet rubbers
« on: 06 June 2015, 12:18:05 pm »
My inlet rubbers have some cracking around them, although they seem to be just surface cracks for now and the bike is not running badly or anything. The cracks have been there a while though and I was just wondering if it would be worthwhile filling them with a little black silicone filler, the high temp kind as a preventative measure?

I have some of that silicone already so I could do that today if it would help slow down the cracking going deeper. If it is worth doing it, would it be best to do it after engine is warmed or on a cold engine? Thinking about heat and expansion of materials etc.

Thanks very much for those posts, I will crack on with this advise at the weekend when i have plenty of time and hopefully find out why it is slipping, it's a real pain in the arse.

FZS600 Fazer / clutch slip tried adjusting
« on: 16 April 2015, 08:02:45 am »
I have had my FZS600 for about 7 weeks now, clutch has been slipping for a few weeks when i give it a handful between 5000 and 6000 rpm. I have tried several times adjusting the adjusting screw/nut behind the rubber grommet on the engine case but it never cures the problem.

What would be the next things to do as a process of elimination to try and sort this issue out? would i be best trying a new clutch cable next?

General / parking at work
« on: 13 April 2015, 08:06:05 am »
Just wanted to ask if anyone had problems parking the bike at work? When i got my fazer 6 weeks ago, i parked it in the work car park around the back of the building, its a small car park but its for employees. I was asked by a manager not to park there because the bike takes a car space away from a car driver and was asked if i could park in the warehouse yard where some other employees park their car. It was suggested i park next to a big rubbish container. There is no car parking space there and i was a bit worried that when the binmen come to empty that my bike might get damaged. So i parked instead in an end spot where there is a gap between 2 spaces, but no actual extra bay. I came out of work on friday and there was a note on my bike saying do not park there again.
How would all you feel about this if it were you?

The boots look pretty good, do they have any reinforcement in them? Not sure the mankini is offering enough protection tbh lol

Well summer is approaching. What do you all wear on your feet when riding in hot summer weather? Any boot recommendations less than £150?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Engine oil level
« on: 28 March 2015, 09:12:57 pm »
bike was on centre stand when photos were taken. I will get some 10/40 oil tomorrow. My oil light has not come on but i noticed the gear changing felt a little notchy the past couple of days. There has been no oil patches in my parking space at home or work but I only had the bike a month and this is the first time i had a proper look at the oil level.

What does the mod involve, it is a very technical process?

« on: 07 March 2015, 11:12:56 pm »
Thanks for all the suggestions on the forks and the mystery thing under the seat  :lol  since it seems caked in oil and grime i think it could be to do with a scottoiler as suggested, so I will see if i can remove it.
I will try the wire brush drill bits and se how they go and try to clean them up with those or fine emery paper if the wire brush is not good on mine. Thanks for your help and suggestions  :)

FZS600 Fazer / Couple of questions from new owner
« on: 07 March 2015, 06:43:45 pm »
I have a couple of questions about the Fazer I have.
1. The forks on the fazer I bought seem to be caked in grime/aluminium corrosion. I have a pic here to show you the extent of this. What is the best way for me to clean these forks up? Maybe they wont ever be a shiny polished set of forks again, but if they could be cleaner then I would like to try cleaning them up.

2. Under the seat I have this strange thing. Is anybody able to tell me what that is and what it does?

I know it looks daft but photos are right.  There is a mod in which you can do to have both lights lit on the main beam.
thanks, yes it does seem odd to have only one main light as the headlight, but thanks for clarifying that for me. All I need to do tomorrow is get a bulb for the missing one in the taillight and i will be sorted for lights  :)

As a new owner of a FZS600 Fazer and having been away from motorcycles for quite a few years, I am wondering if anyone can look at an image i created of my Fazer's lights as I am not sure if when using headlight, 2 lights should be on or one? I have taken a photo of each setting of the headlights, so is it normal to have only one main light on and a small side light for riding or has my bulb blown? I looked at the bulb today and it looked ok. But just thought I would ask to save me further worries about it?

Hi I am in Kent (medway) just bought a used FZS600 fazer last week after not riding a bike for 10 years. My previous bike a decade ago was a suzuki rgv250 which got totalled after a car driver decided that it was time to turn right, into a junction, just as I was passing. Anyway, here I am 10 years later back on a bike after 10 years of car driving and I am loving the fazer so far.
One question for this forum, I have read a lot of posts so far suggesting people read the hot poop section for further information etc. For the life of me, I cannot find a hot poop section on here. Has anyone got a link to it or can tell me where it is?  :)
