Popcorn, anyone? ;)

Na no problem, it's just a matter of ability to read the thread title, just shows they really want a fazer, as there fz1's have no identity
(note smiley as said in jest )  :D

How does the old saying go?  'Many a true word spoken in jest'  :lol

I suspect the problem with them making the price say £5 a day is that their carp ark would then end up full, as people off on their hols would use it instead of the more expensive parking at the adjacent sirport, likewise people heading off to London/Manchester etc. for the day on the rail.

I like this one because it contains the magic word - cheap!  :)

What mix ratio do you use?

The irony is that if say half the expected attendance went along the show would probably be dropped because it wasn’t commercially viable..
OR Less attendance would drive the price of the tickets up to cover costs. Then you would have manufacturers pulling out because the cost would outweigh the benefit of taking all those bikes to a show and paying for staff etc.

On a side note as much as I love my Fazer and use it as often as I can I draw the line at trying to use it when I need to do the weekly shop or there is a layer of snow on the ground.
Hang on.. I enjoy driving my car as well!! Does this make me double wrong??? I may have to sell both and see about getting a helicopter licence.  :lol

I reckon they'd just reduce it from the current 9 days to 4 or 5 like the other European ones.

Even the Milan show only runs for 4 public days & that's huge, 3-4 times bigger than the NEC one & it's all show (i.e. display), not mostly made up of stalls flogging tat cheap, really does makes the NEC one look like a badly run church jumble sale in comparison.

I went there in 2007 flew out first thing in the morning & back the same evening,  worked out cheaper going there from London than going up to the NEC show!  :)

I think that you can't use this contraption for anything.

The reason is that every car jack I've ever used and own all have a lable stating that they are for lifting the vehicle to a safe height to insert permenant jacks only and the vehicle should not be worked on whilst supported only by the trolley jack.

Unless this lift has some way of fixing it in position after it is raised by the trolley jack I wouldn't want to use it.

I agree with you, I had not looked closely enough to notice that this bench did not have a locking mechanism to lock in place once it is at the required height.

If you look at the photos then you'll see it does have a locking mechanism.

Don't understand why people are getting so childish about this,  if you're not interested then just laugh/tut at it & move on, why bother plaguing the guy with silly questions?  Are your lives really so sad & empty?

OK, it looks a bit rusty, but from the pics that's just superficial, underneath it seems solid enough, it's a high starting price but I doubt you'll get a hydraulic bench any cheaper, think my Machine Mart one cost me ~ £300 about 10 years back.

apart from my hobby of motorcycling, i also enjoy walking, perhaps i will walk the 100 miles to the nec to avoid upsetting anyone. :rollin

In which case just make sure you do it mid-week so as not to clutter up the pavement at the weekend & spoil it for everyday walkers on their way to Tescos for a loaf & a pint of milk...   :)

Nope, deffo a Z1000, look at the front calipers & fork shrouds/guard.

You can also just make out the orange Z1000 digital console with silver trim in one of the pics.

Pinlock will keep the visor clear brilliantly, but for glasses the best thing I've found is one of these:

well it's covered in movie bodywork so hard to tell for sure as it could be a one-off custom, but the front end is Kwak Z1000.

« on: 18 October 2012, 12:06:34 pm »
I have a pair of these gloves, like them a lot.
How long have you had them, Rich?
Just wondering 'cos I've never had anything Goretex that's remained waterproof for more than the first few downpours. :'(

I've had a pair of the previous model for at least 3 years now & they're brilliant, still fully waterproof.  Can be a bit of a faff putting them on & getting the inner liner under your sleeve & the outer over it, but it's well worth it as they're the  best winter gloves I've ever had.  At that price they're a steal!

I find it odd that you have problems with Goretex kit, I've never had a leak with any Goretex kit, even the Daytona boots I bought in 1995 are still going strong!

Perhaps they should have a provisional TV licence?  Then you'd only be allowed to watch Tele if a full TV licence holder was sitting next to you on the sofa?

Or If they followed the bike licence, you'd only be allowed to watch TVs up to 15" until you took your test, then it'd be 2 years watching TV on screens up to 33" unless you're over 21 in which case you could take the "Direct to Couch Potato"  one week intensive course....

Of course we'd then have folk on here demanding that you resit the test every 10 years to prove you know who's shagging who on Eastenders.....

Those have been my plugs of choice for years, I even had a set of those moulded to fit silicone jobbies made for £60 & find the EAR ones more comfortable.

I'm off to have my knee MRI'd on Monday week, perhaps I'd better bring a set with me just in case!  :)

Ive got a schuberth s2 like pat, nice and quiet, but............................

Pat-you had any issues with it yet?, i had a pressure point right in the centre of my forehead at the hair line, absolutely excrutiating, was only starting to hurt after 50 miles then i was soon stopping to rip it off or grabbing the chin piece and wiggling to try release the pressure,

Trouble is it was perfectly comfy in the shop plus on small runs,

In the end i think it has finally sorted itself out and just needed wearing in but took about 1000 miles to do so
But i havent had a big run yet to test it out.fingers crossed coz it was focin expensive!

No, nothing like that at all.  In fact I got it just before my Alps trip in July  & that entailed riding for up to 500 miles a day, the only thing I noticed was it did seem a little snug around the cheeks,  I believe they do sell thinner cheek pads, but it's not  bad enough for me to bother with.

I do however recall having something similar to your situation happen to me when I bought a Shoei about 15 years ago, if I recall correctly I resolved it by just gently pressing in the polystyrene at the tight point by a couple of mill.

General / Re: Shoei Quest Helmet
« on: 02 October 2012, 02:01:39 pm »
I've had one for a couple of years & it's a very good helmet.

Usual high Shoei quality, great ventilation, comfort & visibility, the only downside is that it's definitely noisier than the XR1000 I replaced, but if riding out of town I always wear earplugs anyway so not really much of an issue for me.

I also wear glasses & have no problems with them.

It does have double D fastening, but to be honest I find that no more fiddly than the seatbelt type.

All that said, the GF bought me a Schuberth S2 for my birthday in May  :) & that is the best helmet I've ever worn, but then again it is £150 more expensive!  So I really only use the Shoei around town these days, or if I need to use my Scala bluetooth headset, as due to the position of the sun visor control, that will only mount on the S2 if you glue it on.

General / Re: Rusty fuel tanks-whats the solution
« on: 02 October 2012, 01:33:18 pm »
Tank lining is almost universal in the classic bike world and there are lots of products out there for this purpose.  The problem is the ethanol in modern fuel damages older type linings, removing them and clogging up the fuel system.

Modern alternative linings are intended to fix that, but should the biofuel/ethanol content added to petrol increase from the current level of around 5% to the American levels of 10% then we're possibly back to square one.  Even modern bikes are affected. Some Ducati's for example have plastic fuel tanks which absorb the ethanol and go soft. This allows them to 'sag' and come off their frame mountings. Ducati's reply is that they don't put the ethanol in the fuel so it's not their problem, and the government will tell you it's not theirs either.

The German's trialled 10% ethanol for a while and were rewarded with mechanical malfunctions galore, as any plastic or rubber components used in the vehicles fuel systems simply dissolved. The best protection is to use an additive in your fuel if laying up the bike, or drain the tank altogether. Prevention is better than cure but the bottom line is your motorcycle was sold to have a finite working life, and the increased ethanol in fuel will just help it along that process that bit quicker.

You will then be forced to cough up for a replacement vehicle, but look on the bright side - you saved a Polar bear. :)

E10 (10% ethanol) unleaded is pretty much universally available in Germany & France these days, so either the reports of malfunctions have been somewhat over exaggerated or they've spent a fortune replacing the dissolving components with sturdier ones!  :)

Can you get a license in another country like ireland ?

http://www.dvtani.gov.uk/home/index.asp

No.

If you've been banned in this country you've been banned from driving on the UK roads period, it doesn't matter if you have any number of valid driving licences issued by other countries you're still banned.

KTM plus loads of others including Cosworth make some very nice machines, 30mph 60 mile range with your feet up plenty more if you assist

http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/eurobike-ktm-debut-electric-mountain-bike-and-more-23093/

If it'll do 30MPH with your feet up it won't be legal in the UK, well not as an electric pushbike anyway, it'll need all the same stuff as any other motor vehicle - reg plate, insurance,  LICENCE...  :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Numb Arse - 2001 Fazer 1000
« on: 27 September 2012, 03:28:37 pm »
I tried those cycling shorts, but I just couldn't live with the fact that it felt like you'd shit your pants  :lol

The most comfortable bike I've ever had (by a coutry mile) was the FJR1300 (07 model). Never ever had any problems no matter how far I rode in a day. All other bikes have given me trouble on long distance runs.

For me, the problem comes in warm weather and it's not so much numb-bum as pain just below the bum cheeks (don't worry, I won't get any more graphic).  I find that the heat from the bike, the ambient temperature and the heavy protective clothing on a vinyl seat all contribute to making me perspire; the end result being that my skin is sticking to my clothes and you get this dragging feeling on your upper thighs as you accellerate and brake. It's that that causes me discomfort.

Tom

What you need are some of those leggings designed to be worn under bike trousers eg -  http://www.edzlayering.com/motorcycle/mens/baselayer/product_baselayer_leggings.html

They 'cling' to your legs & consequently you don't stick to the outer layer, just slither around in it sensuously....   :)

Well their own brand stuff is 20% cheaper in the Fatherland stores & they still manage to make a good profit on it, so I guess they've got room to do so.
