Oh my god the engine sounds bloody amazing.  Spend this evening buttoning down all the bits n bobs after the camchain swap surgery.  New oil, new coolant..battery in ....fuel tank back on and ignition on.

Few turns to get fuel into the carbs again and it fired up back into life....YEAH BABY I AM A HAPPY CHAPPY

It sounds so quiet now and no rattly ol cam chain anymore.  Well that was definitely worth the effort!

Not sure if it really counts as a hobby, but I like to make tins of lager into empty tins of lager
haha I like that hobby too, but I prefer to empty cans of bitter.

What do you get up to other than your Fazer?

I have been building Quadcopters and taking cameras up for aerial video for 2 - 3 years on and off.  Would love to video a motobike riding along a cool cliff top road.

Hehehe. I actually almosy pooped myself bcus when I tried parking spark no2, it seemed to take forever to wind in.  I thought the spark park thread in the head had stripped!  Massive sigh of relief as it finally tightened up to stop.

Put cams in and tightened the cam shaft holders. Tensioner back in.  Engine cover on and carbs back on. Spark parks in. Missus shitty with me for hiding in the garage. Oh deep joy.

Ok that's cool. I'm going to put my beedy eye just one more time over the rivets again, to put my mind at ease. But I've already checked multiple times and there's no way the cam chain link pins are coming out.

Just spent the last day aligning the cam shafts too lol.  Kept putting them in one tooth out doh!  All aligned now and chain tensioner in.  I checked the amount of clicks it went in compared to the old one.  New one about 3 clicks in before chain was tight and the old had 3 clicks remaining on the auto tensioner!.  Yes I'm happy with that and hope this bad boy runs a bit quieter with less chain chatter.

I have to say it is quite an easy bike to work on really.  But if you have the correct tools it makes life easier.

Put the tip of the riveter on the edges of the pins to be riveted and compressed the tool onto it, so it rounded off the edges of the pin.  It seemed to work well enough to make it secure.  Do you know the correct tool?

Oh dear it doesn't work.  I need a propper camchain riveter tool.  For 2.2mm pin,I think,
To round the ends over rather than push out the centre to mushrooom it like a drive chain.
Can anyone point me to the correct tool I need?  Don't want to order something then realise its wrong, if you know what I mean.
Pleeeeeease  im getting , going for a ride withdrawals lol

Hi I am just about to order a long reach socket / wrench for extracting the plugs on my FZS600 yr 2000.   I'm away from the bike right now but want to order the wrench this afternoon.  I think the standard plug hex size is 16mm.  Is that right?

cheers for your help anyone!

Doh looks like I can use my riveter that I've got already. Panic over

Just had a look and once you take off the cam chain top guide there is space to fit it on.  Just have to make sure I dont drop anything down into the engine lol. What could possibly go wrong.

Hi I'm goanna put in a new cam chain bcus there's only a couple of click s left on the tensioner.
I'm fitting a link and rivet type chain to avoid splitting the engine.

I have a drive chain rivet tool but not sure I can use it for the cam chain too?

Does any kind soul have a proper cam chain rivet tool I could borrow (I will pay postage)or buy if you dont need it anymore or know where I can get one?

Cheers

Ok I've started to dig and check things
Please see photos and some gaps on the teeth on front cam shaft and chain.  Is there a front tensioner too?  What do you think? Thanks for any replies.

Postman brought me a pair of datatool heated grips.  Just put them on the battery and started the bike to test them. Wooo nice n toasty.  Looking forward to trying them out for real.
Like the auto charging sensor that switches them on and off automatically

On my Fazer 600 yr2000 model that I aquired 2months ago, it really sounds a bit tappety and more than I'd like.  Its done over 40k so I'm considering doing cam chain tensioner and tappets possibly replace the chain too.

What do you reckon is it major surgery for cam chain? Should I just do the tensioner and tappets?

I've rebuilt a few modified A-series engines for minis in my time and have quite a bit of mechanical experience overall plus I have access to tools etc so not scared to open up the fazer motor.

I guess im seeking advice on the subject really and how long should a job like this take? Having not done it before.

At the end of the day I want to reduce the tappety noise

Cheers for any helpful advice

Just ordered a set of data tool grips as my index finger always goes numb when riding this time of year, which really is annoying.  Looking forward to toasty hands and warmth to stop the dead finger issue lol.
