You could split the caliper in half and turn the pin out with a vice grip

Unbolt the front sprocket cover from the bike. Pull the clutch lever. Is it smooth and free when you pull it or is it still stiff? Most likely is that the cable is freyed and binding.

Pull the breather pipe out of the air box and check it. That's probably the best place to start

Sounds like it's running normally to me. The idle is a bit low. It should be around 1150 to 1250rpm when hot. There's is definitely a bit of wetness under the carb near the air box. It's hard to tell where exactly it's coming from. It looks higher than the breather pipe and it's not the usual emulsified oil. Is that rust on the ground from the leak? It looks a bit like rusty coolant water. Is the wet area coolant?

You'll get there eventually, you just have to tick off one problem at a time. I'd check the oil level, check if the plugs are fouled, check the air box for fuel or oil or emulsifed oil, clean out the breather pipe. It could be flooding into the airbox and coming out the breather or the breather could just be blocked, you will have to get in there and look for evidence of what's happening. Is the engine running normally?

For Sale & Wanted / Re: 600 Fazer Haynes manual wanted.
« on: 23 June 2019, 12:25:02 pm »
There's a Haynes in the download section too :lol Personally I don't like Haynes manuals. I think the factory workshop manuals are a lot better. I'd only use a Haynes as a last resort if no factory manual is available. Luckily bike manufacturers seem happy to release their manuals whereas car manufacturers don't. Another reason why bikes are better than cars :D

That pipe on the bottom left of the air box is the breather for the engine case. Pressure in the engine case is vented out through the pipe into the air box. Over time oil, water vapour and combustion gases coming out of the case mix together and can cause a build up of emulsified oil that blocks the pipe. The mayo looking goo can be from normal build up and it just needs a clean out or it can also happen if the oil level is too high so the pressure in the engine case pushes an excessive amount of oil into the air box. You should take the breather pipe off and give it a clean and look in the bottom of the air box for goo and give it a clean and check if your oil level is high. A bit of mayo goo in the air box is normal. A lot of oil isn't and would suggest the oil is over filled. A blocked breather pipe by itself shouldn't cause the bike to run rich. Do you think the bike is running rich or is the only problem that there is goo coming from the air box?

Is it easily done with engine in the frame still or best to drop it out first?
Leave it in. If you wanted to do a proper job you could take it out and spray it but it's a lot of work.

« on: 19 June 2019, 07:18:07 pm »
That proves all the circuitry for the "self-diagnosis" is in the ignitor. The tacho and the clocks don't have any part in the circuit other than displaying the output from the ignitor

Looks good ;) If you want to freshen up the cylinder head Granville satin black is a good match to the original engine colour. It lasts about one year of commuting before it needs to be done again.

I'd take out spark plug on 3 and check that the cylinder isn't flooded. Crank the engine a few times and look for fuel spraying out of the cylinder. If it's not flooded you could check for spark while you have the plug out. Be careful not to light yourself on fire :lol If it is flooded the float valve in carb 3 is probably stuck open. If it's flooded check the oil level. The petrol washed down the cylinders and contaminates the oil. If it's not flooded put the plug back in. Turn the choke on and start the engine. Let it run for a few minutes with the choke on. Does the exhaust on cylinder 3 start to get hot with the choke on? If it does then that would suggest the pilot circuit is blocked in carb 3 and you will have to clean it. You said there was dirt in the fuel when you took the bowls off did you give the tank a clean? If not I'd give it a clean with some fresh fuel. Was there any water in the bowls? If so I'd check the drain on the tank. If the drain is blocked rain water will collect around the filler neck and get into the tank , then it settles in the tank and the carb bowls and makes starting difficult. To get to the drain you open the filler cap and take the allen bolts out and give the drain a poke and a spray of wd40 to clear it. The main thing is check if it's flooded, if it's not run it with choke and check if cylinder 3 gets hot with choke. If it does the pilot circuit on 3 is probably blocked.

Thanks for your reply.

I was just wondering if the symptoms on their own are indicative of a basic problem. I have done some investigations of my own.

I have historically not had to use choke much at all on this bike but I I try to start with no choke now the cylinder 3 does not fire at all. It starts smoothly on choke and runs fast. I put the choke in pretty quickly after starting off.

I know it is cylinder 3 as the down pipe is colder or completely cold if I start with no choke. Have got new plugs. Sparks seem good. Swapped coils etc, always cylinder 3. Swapped over the two leads which fire at the same time. Re prepared the lead ends.

I have cleaned carbs thoroughly including transfer lines and replaced bits on carb 3.Basic kit with new O rings gasket and float valve. Float in good condition.

I have done compression test and cylinder 3 is down but still over 100 psi. I am thinking that it may be valve clearances or sticking valve? Would this cause this intermittent fault?

When I run out on an open road all down pipes are the same temperature and it runs smoothly even at low revs.
I think you've done enough to rule out spark. If giving it some choke improves running at idle and low revs to me that sounds like the pilot circuit is blocked in carb 3. You could try turning the mixture screw out a 1/4 or 1/2 turn on carb 3 and see if that improves things. That would probably only be masking the problem not fixing it but if doing that improves things that would give you clear evidence that the problem is a blockage in the pilot circuit

I printed out DUDE'S instructions...even on paper they are pretty confusing...
Has he been INGESTING some MIND ALTERING substance......??? :look
I got a good laugh out of that :rollin Someone did a proper hack job on that loom! If you want everything back to original you could always take the cowards way out and buy a used loom off ebay. It would be plug and play as long as all the factory connectors are intact, no head scratching required. They're fairly cheap too. Just make sure it's the correct loom

That's the circuit for when you turn the key to park. It has nothing to do with the problem. You're looking for two connectors together, under the seat with only black wires going to them. They are the connectors for the alarm.
When you started the thread I'm sure it said you had a 2002 bike under your name. Now it says 00-01. That's a different wiring diagram  http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=4

Another thing that could cause the side stand to have no effect would be if the neutral switch was short to ground. The ignitor would be getting the ground it needs all the time so the side stand would have no effect but if that was happening you would expect to see the neutral indicator light on all the time even when the bike was in gear.

Could also be that someone has removed an alarm in the past and joined the one of the black wires under the seat to ground so the ignitor is getting a permanent ground
