wanted to remove front sprocket to give a good clean but not got 36mm socket...will have to wait untill tommrow when i can get too my local tool supplier and treat myself to some nice new shiny tools  :D

Then you will, of course, have a new tab washer there to replace the old one when you take it off and it falls to pieces? Cos it will.......

Ghostbiker,
Pic attached hopefully, if not I'll do it tomorrow on laptop rather than phone.

Whale,
Think it is fzr. If it is an import how could I find out? Chassis number and a Yamaha dealer?

Thanks for replies,
Mustardbufc

Deffo FZR - my mistake!

Like the others, I have never seen that on a Fazer (or any other bike) yet.

I think you will find it says "FZ1" and not FZR and this means it is an import.

Should usually mean you pay around 10% less for it than an equivalent UK bike.

The Genuine Works Yamaha tool is to stuff a broom handle down there to lock it all up and then the nut should extract.

An air rachet is also a real help.

Been taking a look at the top yoke kit and it looks a possibility!

Will certainly save money of front tyre wear.....

I am thinking of swapping my K5 1000 for a more upright bike but want the power and agility to still be up there.

What sort of mods and results can be achieved with Gen 2 on the output side? Can a R1 motor be flung at it for example?

Also, what are the suspension mods on the list to do?

Finally, anyone tried a Gen 2 and a B King which is also on my list?

Spooky - just had ANOTHER example of a pad losing its friction material.....

This one was on a DSA examiners bike so not being heavily used.

That's 4 in around 6 months - all the same manufacturer and (I think) rears. For certain, 2 of them are!

Have written to the makers to see what the got to say.

PS The one pictured above doesn't look like a delaminate by the way....

That will be the Hi Level clutch cable that is really cheap but lasts days then......  :lol

Ask me how I know.  :'(

Loads of posts about it here somewhere.

Buy a Yamaha one - no choice really.

Running wide on the power is usually the rear squatting under power and taking the weight off the front. If the line tightens when the power is shut off then - QED.

That can either be caused by too soft a spring (as happened on my Tuono R) or lack of ride height at the back (as happened with my K5).

Most front end problems are consequences of a poor rear end.

Do you know what make the pads were?

Had 3 or 4 examples of the pad material delaminating up the shop lately....

Ah! So a discussion a totally different bike on a thread titled CB1300 is relevant??

Good - I quite like the Pan European myself.

Lets see where that takes us.  :\

OE sprocket is item 33 on attached fiche - it is made with a rubber/plastic insert that deadens the vibes.

Can't comment on why Pitts was different but it ain't standard.

Non standard is a bit noiser IMO.

PS Lot's of counterfeit "branded" C & S kits about - beware!

Dashboard spray.

Known in the trade as "bullshit spray" as it makes the black plastics and rubber bits look like new.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: M.O.T advisory
« on: 15 April 2012, 09:31:26 am »
I refer the gentleman to my earlier reply.

The fact it is an advisory says it all - it is NOT dangerous, just showing signs of wear/warping.

If everyone bought new parts for every MoT advisory we give at our shop then we would we be minted!

On the subject of back brake use, when I sold my 1000 with 102,000 miles on it the ORIGINAL rear pads were about half worn....

And I do get a bit of a shift on.

« on: 15 April 2012, 09:25:44 am »
Get it Ivanised, problem solved.

Not unless Mike is now fitting plugs as well as the Ivans kit.....  :lol

Could be carbs, could be sparks. We are yet to establish the problem so are probably not ready to throw a good solution at a random problem..

Ivans is a great mod but it may not cure this issue same as it wouldn't cure a flat tyre.

However, your considered advice is very welcome!  :rolleyes

There is a slight warp in the disc but not excessive.

Leave it until it becomes a MOT fail then replace the disc AND fit new pads with the new disc.

EBC is a decent choice.

Ride more, worry less.

Mine did 102,000 miles and did not look anywhere near as bad as that!

Makes you cry really to see a decent bike in such a state.  :'(

What a travesty.

A pipe is legal if not stamped for "race use only" or "not for road use".

It will pass the MoT at the testers descretion if "not appreciably louder than standard".

Most pass at our shop.

« on: 28 February 2012, 03:27:30 pm »
I refer the honourable gentleman to the reply I gave earlier.

It was fine before you fuelled up and was not fine after - ergo it is likely you had a crap tank of gas.

"When walking down the road and hearing hoofbeats behind, turn and expect to see horses not zebras".  :rolleyes

The obvious solution is often the correct one and is no less worthy a solution for being obvious.

Water in the fuel maybe? Your problems started after a fill up so could be related.

Turn the tank tap off and drain the carbs at the minimum although I would be sure and drain the tank too.
