Around 60mph at 5000rpm. The good news is I can simply replace it with a genuine UK speedo? Anyone got one going cheap?

I'm a bit perplexed. I pulled up next to another Fazer today and noticed it it had a different speedo to mine. Mine has a 260mph speedo. The other Fazer had a 260kph/160mph. Mine has no kph scale. Is this normal?

No I'm definitely not a southerner. I'm a Northerner born and bred. We love a bit of sarcasm up here. In fact if we don't get it off each other we suspect somethings up. You can't take yourself too seriously if you've been daft enough to ride a motorbike for nearly forty years.

I'd agree if Paulfzs had put a new exhaust on but he hasn't. He's ripped the guts out of one and this will definitely alter the carburation balance.

I'm probably going to offend someone here but what the hell. I'd rather sandpaper my knackers and dip them in salt than have anything to do with anything Harley and I hate them only slightly less than the wife. :D

Couldn't give a toss about the post count and I've got too many cuts, bruises and headaches to be classed as an armchair expert. I speak from knowledge and regret. In the mid nineties I had a mint Honda CB250N which I dropped at around four mph on ice at a junction. When I picked up the bike I had a broken indicator and a loose baffle on my left silencer. I replaced the indicator and thinking I could live with a little rattle (and without the cost of replacing the silencer) I left it. Fast forward four months driving home from work and a max of 15 mph at 9000rpm in second all the way home. Took the head off to find a half moon burnt out of the left pot exhaust valve. It cost me a fortune for an exhaust valve and gaskets, an expensive lesson never forgotten.  :'(

I fitted a rack (brilliant bit of kit made by johnakay) and a top box. Before the fitment the rear of the bike was always clean. Now when I go out in the rain the number plate, top box rear, tail light and rear plastics are covered in road spray and dirt. Looks like I'll have to make a mudflap. I'm not keen on spoiling the look of the bike but I ride all year round so it's a must. Any suggestions or help gratefully received.

I'm expecting pitfalls but I love a challenge. As the wife is often heard to say "How come your ten minute jobs end up taking two hours?" I always reply "If it's worth doing it's worth doing it right". I have the slim 10mm thick ballasts which I intend to waterproof with a combination of silicone sealant and self amalgamating tape. Anything can be done given the right amount of time, money and ingenuity. I'll let you know how I get on. :rolleyes

You do realise that you should now have your carbs rejetted to make up for the lack of back pressure in the exhaust.
If you don't you may end up burning your exhaust valves.

I've  bitten the bullet and purchased two sets (H1 and H4) off fleabay. I bought car sets so I intend to try the H1/H4 original set up and if happy with it leave it at that. If this is sufficient it will leave me with a spare bulb and ballast for each side.  If not I'll  fit two H4's. I'll let you know how I get on.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: new rack
« on: 25 June 2015, 08:05:34 pm »
Ii have this rack (the one without the grab handles) and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the dog's dangly bits. It's the easiest part I've ever fitted to a bike. Four bolts tightened and fitted perfectly, on in five minutes. It now has a top box on it and both are as solid as a rock. I used to have a 600 divvy with Givi arms and a nonfango rack and it shook like a shiiting dog and at low speeds caused a wobble that proved the tail can wag the dog. This rack has non of that so I'm as happy as a pig in sh*t. I was also impressed with johnakays service and workmanship. It looks like the rack will easily outlive the bike. Thanks again johnakay.
Happy days.

Voltmeter and Ambient temperature gauge fitted with cable ties because I didn't want to drill any holes.

Had a very busy couple of days during which I've fitted a double bubble screen which has made life a lot quieer and less tiring on my 6' 1" frame. Fitted a Loobman chain oiler, much cheaper to buy than a Scottoiler and you can used any oil you like in it. Fitted a voltmeter and an ambient temperature gauge into the fairing and finally fitted a rear rack. The rear rack was actually purchased from one of our focu members johnakay and fits perfectly. It even drew praise from my missus and that doesn't happen very often.  :rolleyes

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Inlet rubbers required
« on: 03 June 2015, 08:58:25 pm »
Years ago I owned a Honda CX500E which had perished inlet rubbers. They were bonded to the aluminium flanges. I didn't fancy paying Mr Honda £65 each so I repaired them. I purchased a mountain bike inner tube for around £3 and cut lengths the same size as the rubbers and I stretched them over them. Being paranoid I stretched another one over the first. The bike ran spot on for the remaining two years that I owned it. You also have the remaining inner tube should you need to make another repair. If you cut them neatly they are difficult to spot too. If you're extra paranoid you can glue both ends down with evostick adhesive but I didn't bother. Hope this helps.

I was thinking of a trip to the local scrappy and just get a H4 holder off a headlamp and superglue it to the back of the reflector. Obviously after removing the H1 bulb holder.

He'll probably jump the next red light.
It always makes me smile when road users point fingers, cagers admit there are bad drivers amongst them as do we bikers but there are NO bad cyclists or so they would have us believe.

Went outside in the pouring rain and and howling wind and got soaked trying to put my bike cover back on with an extra bungee strap.
Eeeh it's grim up north, it only rains on a day with a 'Y' in it. :rolleyes

It's a bit late now you've done it but here's a tip for the future.
Years ago I had a Jawa 350 and both spindles had a small indent in the thread end so you could belt them with a hammer and a pin punch. Greasing up is the solution but use marine grease as it is more resistant to water. Alternatively take a 3mm drill and drill around 3mm into spindle. Next time it's stuck you can insert an old pin punch into it and batter feck out of it without worrying about thread damage.
All the best

Thanks for that Punkstig, I don't think the blade type would suit the sporty looking Fazer, there more Pan European. Plus the price is a bit steep for what is essentially a screen with an extra bit of perspex clipped to the top. I think I will go for that one.

Unfazed, greater moniker, how many club members wish they'd got to that one first?
When you say tedious I thought it would be just a case of finding a H4 fitment from the local car breakers and gluing it in place. The electrics isn't a problem as I'm a bit of a dab hand and love a challenge. I'll be wiring it through two sets of 5 terminal switching relays to take any extra load and I'll be making a custom wiring harness. I've done this before for cars and bikes and feel comfortable. The only bit that might 'faze' me is the actual bulb holder itself. I figure I can make the harness for around £20 all in because I already have the wiring. If I do it and I have the time I will try to make a guide for others including a wiring diagram.
All the best

I'm thinking of getting a better screen to provide a bit more protection for my 6 feet frame. Any thoughts on this:  http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=251833408568&alt=web A lack of  a relevant photo of the item doesn't help. Anyone had any experience of them?
