For Sale & Wanted / Foxeye 600 nosecone still for sale
« on: 23 July 2013, 12:26:51 pm »
Still got my old nosecone . was damaged but repaired will need tidying and complete respray , all moutings and luggs intact £15+ £10 postage.

I bought a similarly damaged one on e bay ,repaired and sprayed over a week end , easier than taking yours of and finding unexpected damage, then having your bike of the road

I had a  low speed of this year , I was wearing waterproof heavily armoured " especially around the kneees" Jeans .I had of often thought,(What is the likeliyhood of having an impact right on the armour) Van turned right across my path ,hitting my left knee with his front wing! my knee came up like a baloon and took 5 weeks to regain colour and shape.
How bad would it have beeen with shorts ?

The thou unit is a straight swap for the 600 unit. either caliper will lock the rear wheel
its just there is more feel in the thou unit but not £85 more

« on: 14 July 2013, 08:04:17 pm »
Another weird fault I had on my 600 was that when fitted  with a bt21 there was a helish rumbling noise at the front . I refitted the same tyre to my thou there was no tyre noise, Considereing that the 600 has a noisy end can and the tyre noise could be heard above it ,is to say the least very strange

« on: 14 July 2013, 07:55:08 pm »
Bit over my head this ,but the point is the 1000 and r6 gas assistance can be adjusted
wheras the 600 oil/spring unit is fixed so in theory either should be better than the 600 basic unit, In my experience the r6 unit on my thou and the 1000 unit (600 spring) on the 600 are much better than stock

The thou blue rear caliper is very hard to find . I got one from an e bay listing in USA , but I got stung with UK import tax , ended up costing me £85 Much more feel than the 600 unit , I  always found it hard adgusting to the braking difference betwean my 600 and thou , "I use the rear brake a lot" Now it just the same, If I never had the thou though I don't think I would have bothered with the swap

« on: 14 July 2013, 05:35:34 pm »
I made myself a mra vario from using a cut down top of an old screen , and vario hinges bought from the mra importer for around £25 this works very well on my foxeye 600 , works much better in fact than the genuine vario which I have on my gen1 thou, although the bikes and screens layout look the same , they are quite different on the two bikes

My first 98 600 ,had a lot of lost travel in the front forks, which I suspected that the springs  had become compressed. bike also bottomed out quite easily on braking I never got round to resolving this issue,
probably lots of info on the forum re fork oil. I can't see that it should deteriorate really but a possibility

I have a special bag strapped to where the pillion sits . holds on with a sort of crossed bungee strap idea . advantages are .it does not catch the wind and slightly affect the handling as (top box on my thou) also gives me something to rest my arse against. only disasdvantage I have notices(apart from the lost passenger space) is that I have to lift my right legg quite high to clear the bag. I also like a loaded tank bag as I can rest against it on long trips , taking weight of my arms

When comparing spring rates it is easy to overlook the contribution of the gas in the thou, and r6 units. a  fazer 600 unit does not have gas assistance . chap at revvs reconed the gas added 70% .

I've had a thou shock on my 600 "with 600 spring" for two seasons now. I never have cause to think about what the suspension is doing . A good sign that all is well in my books

Don't think you will get the best out of an after market exhaust without the ivan kit,  A viper can and link pie killed mine till I got it done. looses weight and sounds good but the mid range dip was depressing. welcome to the forum good choice of bike

I got a set of vario adjustable from the mri importer , seem to remember they were around £25. I then cut the top of a standard screen to make the top vane .
Strange how it is very effective on my 600 , but a proper vario not so on my thou.
cheeper option than paying £100 + and being disappointed

Personaly when I have been abroad I am a bit wary of the local speed cops/cameras  ,The cameras  are in grey boxes usually in the middle of dual carriagways
so I am happy to keep my speed down  so wind batter has not been a problem,

« on: 17 June 2013, 03:18:24 pm »
Mine was broke of completely. I stuck it together with araldite, then i cut a piece of metal body repair mesh and fibre glassed it in from behind
finally On the outside I ground around the break with a dremmel and filled it in with body filler I masked of the area from the rest and finished of with aerosol paint. can't tell it was broke now!

« on: 17 June 2013, 10:59:51 am »
I got two car wheel nuts welded back to back, I  keep it under the seat in case the rac man does not have a tool.
I change my own tyres using, my jacked up astra with spare wheel rim fitted as bead breaking tool , I put an old car mat down to protect the wheel from ground abrasions, you need to be carefull with the front just tip it upwards at the rear to avoid presure on the brake discs, or alternatively a front wheel will fit in a  large vice .I have cheep balancing tool bought on e bay for not much. If you have trouble making the beads seal when inflating the fitted tyre, just blow up  a car wheel to about 60 psi remove the valve on the bike wheel and fit a foot pump hose of similar betwean the car and bike tyres, Ive fitted lots using this system , but if you are not confident in these things you must pay yer money etc, I would not change tyres before they are due, as they are expensive enough to change when they are knackered.

I don't think you will notice much difference on a thou, tried 3 now, i've settled on a vario as its the quitest but i still get quite a battering at 80 mph
although my foxeye 600 looks similar the screen seems to be mounted higher and the home made vario works well on it

For Sale & Wanted / Re: Fazer 600 '02 foxeye front fairing
« on: 16 June 2013, 10:13:56 am »
Easy repair to do, I had a low speed of early this year. I bought a damaged nose cone of e bay ,then repaired it at my leasure .  one thing that I had not anticipated was the clock mounts were damaged and also the large front fairing mount was slightly out of line. depends how handy you are but an easy operation if you do it in stages. I finally got the paint matched at a local motor factor around the whole job coat £50 max

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Thou shock
« on: 15 June 2013, 11:17:14 am »
After swapping the spring. bolt up the shock . set the pre load with your weight on the bike ,then look at the adgusting ring where it is nearest the overflow tank. this will tell you were you need to grind the ring. I moved the overflow tank slightly . this will be obvious wheen you offer it up.Do this with the shock removed as its fiddly. Set rebound knob to max , and then experiment with the compression adgust screw. pm me if you want more, I've still not got round to trying the r6 shock on my 600 yet .

Lots of smaller companies do one of vinyl graphics. the genuine ones will be very expensive. have a look on e bay , I got some for my push bike that were quite good when laquered

I have a home made vario , similar to above, This is very effective on my 600, a proper vario on my thou doesen't do much.
my inlaw has a db on his foxeye 600, he recons its better than standard, but i've not ridden it. we are both about 5ft 7 ins
