I've said already it's an unfair comparison fzs,fz1 & s1r but the similarities in concept between the R1 & the FZS released circa 2001 & now the S1RR & S1R circa 2014 is valid. Both sportsbikes top of their game at the time releasing a detuned, sorry retuned, naked based upon & marketed as sportsbikes without the fairings.
The biggie of course is the technological advancements in those intervening years.

Edit: Paul, the touring screen I have fitted is very effective for it's size, a product of good R&D  ;)

Hi
I've found a post I did about 3 years ago on this problem. If it ain't the backup fuse the fix is to do the following to identify which wire is broken:

The 6 way connector block has the r/g in the centre next to the white.
Separate the 6 way plug from it's socket and put one multimeter lead on the
r/g and the other to a bolt on the engine. ( ie the harness leading from the
battery ) It should read 12v. If it does it means the break is in the wiring from the
plug to the instrument cluster. If there's no voltage it means the break is in
the main wiring harness or at the inline fuse feeding the clocks.
Of course check for 12v on the loadside of the clockfuse first.
Look for any sign of abrasion or damage/corrosion to the 6 way plug and
socket. Spray liberally with a contact cleaner.
Btw, if you haven't a multimeter a 12v bulb will work just as well.

As to the s1r, I'm still in awe.

« on: 21 May 2014, 10:04:38 pm »
If you've altered nothing lately, it'll be the switch contacts. Try spraying contact cleaner in there or better still remove, clean the contacts & reassemble. The flasher relay has 1 common feed so if 1 side works it can't be that

Check the backup fuse.  ;)

Really pleased you like it Dave. Thanks for the kind words  8)
It's top quality kit but only use WD40 or an equivalent to clean it with. Abrasive polish will remove that lovely golden colour.

First off, I owned a gen1 for 4 years & a gen2 for 8 years & in their day they were an excellent bike. As an allrounder with good poke virtually peerless in their class.
However, things have moved on exponentially. To compare them with the s1r is very unfair, let alone laughable, as the beemer is leap years ahead in power, handling & technology. Take a test ride on one & you'll see for yourself, okay it's got a few niggles, I'm replacing the levers & blinging it a bit but this is mainly to customise it for my preferences. As to any clown saying they wouldn't buy an astonishingly good bike like the s1r because the seat is uncomfortable would surely miss the whole point of the s1r anyway. Btw, I am going to the S of F this year but will enjoy every minute.

Sold to one very lucky buyer for £2900.
I hope he gets as much enjoyment out of it as I have over the last 8 years.
Anyway, thanks to those who took an interest just a shame it wasn't to be for you.

Good timing aswell because I picked up my s1r yesterday. The salesman put it in rain mode until I got used to it, yeah right, so as soon as I was out of shot it was switched to road mode & full power. OMFG, it's one crazy fast beast. Fkin brilliant machine.

cheers

I think you're right about the type of buyer who'd be interested. With all these new great bikes about & various finance schemes available who'd want an 8 yr old bike when they can have new & those who can't or don't want finance probably struggle to get the 3-5k readies anyway.
Couple that with the unfair reputation the gen2 has & it all adds up to me owning a lemon.  :) Mind you even the gen1 which has had a good press over the years sells at way under what the bike is really worth.
Anyway, I'll reduce the bin price & readvertise it.

Woe is me, woe is me  :)
Auctioned it on ebay & it didn't reach the reserve of £3k. lololol. Anyone interested in a one owner meticulously maintained tastefully modded FZ1 gen2 that is as fast as all of the modded gen2's & faster & better handling than any gen1. Well anyone?
Replies on a postcard to :rolleyes

However, it looks like you're well sorted now so I'm pleased for you.
The bike sounds well sorted aswell, mind you us original gen2 modders do know a bit about them  ;)
The Akra will go a treat with those mods, you'll feel a nice little bump in the midrange.
I received the money this morning thanks & I'll get the Akra sent off to you as soon as I return home tonight. I'll send you the tracking number by email or pm.
I'll also send you a link to the pc map I'm using, it's a good un & will go perfectly with your mods.
Take care bud.

General / Re: finally the motorcycle world has woken up!!
« on: 13 May 2014, 09:37:55 pm »
So because Beemer & Hardley owners have now reacted to market forces & are now at more realistic resale prices in relation to others the motorcycle world has woken up :\  You've been specific with your choice of makes in your post so why such an all encompassing statement.
Beemers & Hardleys have always had higher residual values than most other makes so the fact that they've dropped to level out with others is nothing to do with the bike world being in denial but more that those marques have found their true level in this economic climate.

The saga continues  :)
Now up for auction:

With any luck I may be able to afford a tank of juice for my s1r  :lol

160? Are you kidding. 17 secs accellerating flatout from about 30mph the s1rr will be doing 180+.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: 2006 FZ1 For Sale *Price Reduced.*
« on: 12 May 2014, 07:51:32 pm »
New price, see 1st post.

The top quality aftermarket parts actually cost me more than I'm now asking for the full bike.  :eek
This has to be a real steal at this price. Don't be put off by the mileage either as the motor runs strong & powerful & the oil never needs topping up between service intervals.
I'm still amazed it hasn't sold. Btw, it's also on ebay & mcn & will reduce it on those sites as well.

Firstly, I hope things turnout okay for your mam.
Secondly, seek out a website specialising in your type of problem. A quick google seems to show that the answer is not as straightforward or black and white as the peeps on here seem to think.
