I've been invited for a test ride when they arrive in December - if I survive the experience I'll do a write up. My prediction tho is that I'll stick with the 990 I have already. Probably...

Rode to Devon along the A303 last night in the rain, spent some time cleaning it today with my old man's limited collection of cleaning bits and bobs.

PS: every time I go on the A303 I have some sort of 'run-in' with a boy racer or twat executive type in a BMW/Audi/VW. Last night it was a boy racer in Seat.

Maybe it's me then. I cycled the whole time I lived near Waterloo (12 years), as has been said here already, it's the best way to get around town (so long as there's a shower at the other end). But I rarely hurtled down the middle - preferring to filter down the left and take care at junctions. Disagree that down the middle is safer, just my opinion tho..

Not sure bout cyclists as most of em r mad in the smoke but I have seen a nutter on a cb500 thinks he owns the foccin road. I keep hearin this funny noise when i pass..... Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

..pretty sure he only owns the road when he's on his KTM - which you CAN'T have a go on! :lol

I've noticed a new breed of cycliste on the mean streets of Sarf Larndn (well, the South Circular at least) - Sky liveried, lycra clad, flash carbon racing bike heading down the 'filtering' gap in the middle of the road rather than on the left - and appearing to think they have priority even if straying on to the other side. Aggressive buggers too... Anyone else noticed them?

Went on a ROSPA assessment ride, very good!

Was that in Kent? I tried RoSPA in Kent and didn't hear from them for 4 months so gave up - did you have to wait long for your assessment?

Ribble are cheap for a reason. But you can return it as others have said. Compatibility is becoming harder add they is still plenty of old 9 speed about, 10 was standard for a good while, then the idiots decided 11 cogs was a good idea. Plus more proprietary chain rings mean maintaining a push bike is getting more like a motorbike cost.

You're right about compatibility - when I started riding bikes were 3 speed and all imperial... cotter pins... all steel frames... Try telling that to the kids today and they won't believe you!

update: wow! they are cheap aren't they?? quite a bit less than Parker and free post too... might put up with the service after all.

8 & 9 speed out is interchangeable (generally), 10 is not. Don't waste your time trying to get it to work. Amongst my many skills, I'm a cytech 2 qualified bike mechanic...

If they won't amend the order (which reflects poorly on them), just order the correct one as well, and when the 10 speed fella turns up, return it under the distance selling regs, which give you right to return any item within (can't recall if it's 7 or 14 days) of delivery for a full refund.

I ordered a 10 speed Shimano Ultegra 6600 chain, £18.36 - what confused me I think was the Ultegra bit - which matches my groupset, but I neglected to check the block, when I realised my mistake I contacted them straight away - but they've refused to change the order.
Like you say - I'll order the correct one and return the 'wrong' one. Big thanks for all the replys - just so you all know it was RIBBLE CYCLES who provided such sh*te service...

I just ordered a 10 speed chain for my Cannondale from Ribblecycles Cycles but, it turns out, I've a 9 speed block. Ribblecycles proved proper unhelpful and refused to amend the order, despite contacting them barely 30 minutes after placing it online.
Question: will a 10 speed chain fit a 9 speed block ok?

Changing the tank size won't alter the fuel consumption - unless it makes it worse because it's carrying more weight! But I guess if I could afford a KTM I wouldn't be too worried about the cost of fuel. Can I have Exup's go now he doesn't want to try it? :lol

No!   :lol

Yeah, I've just been looking into that, some of the reviews said as few as 80 miles to the fuel light if you ride like a tw@! (but they'd be very fun miles)

That'll be the pre 07 model - after 07 they had a bigger tank.

And no, Exup, you still can't have a go on mine...

Dont want a go anymore.

yes you do  :D

just one thing stevierst - they're not cheap to run, you'll be lucky to get high 30mpg and if you rag it (and believe me you will) it's low 30's - orange light comes on usually around 120miles. The big service every 9000k is at least £400, often more (you can do the mid service, essentially oil and filter, yourself for around £90). And then there's the catalogue of *bling* orange aftermarket parts tugging at your wallet...

I've an 07 SD and its the last bike I'd sell if I were forced to part will all my bikes. It's wildly different from my FZS, you need to get used to running out of revs much quicker, with all the 120 odd bhp being delivered very quickly. It ticks all the usual cliche boxes of 'involving', 'bonding' etc. but it's a lively bugger with a very steep steering angle - make sure you test ride ride one pretty extensively before buying one. You might also wait for the new one out early next year I think.

And no, Exup, you still can't have a go on mine...

Chichester to Milau = 900 miles 14 hours on my VFR , and still fresh on arrival, those midi piranees motorways are very twisty and fast fast fun.

Presumably 1 1/2 hours of that was on the ferry? - not withstanding time spent faffing either side of the ferry that's an average speed of 72mph? Pretty good going!

I've done 1400 miles in 21 hours but in a car not on a bike.  Personally I think you'll be pushing it even though you've got decent roads all the way.  You'll win yourself an hour at the ferry as we're an hour behind the rest of Europe but even then with the hanging around time before boarding and getting off the ferry, you're still looking at 2.5 hours total but 1.5 hours delay.

A few years ago I met a guy on a bike at some services just south of Paris.  He had been on holiday with some mates in the south of France and he had to get home earlier than the rest of them.  He had a bet on with them and he would win if they phoned his home number exactly 24 hours after he had set off and he answered.  He wanted to follow me round the Paris ring road as he wasn't sure which route he had to take.  He followed me for a while but then we hit traffic and, after I'd told him what signs he had to follow, he went off on his own.  Having got through Paris we took a leisurely run and even stopped for a meal but found him again when we got on the ferry.  He reckoned that he had got so tired and dehydrated he had started hallucinating and had been overtaking vehicles that weren't even there so had had to stop for some sleep.

I will, and regularly do, drive a car for hundreds of miles at a time but I find riding the bike much more tiring, probably because of the extra concentration needed.  I don't think you'll do it.

Kinda agree with rusty - I can't see it being done, Bilbao to Baza was about 900 odd miles, and actually took more like 30 hours incl a stop south of Madrid. Was vy tired at the end of it.

I have to ride from Budapest to Swindon in august, but I have to do it in 24 hours, a total od 1200 miles minimum and also involves a ferry crossing.

Longest I've done in 24hrs is Bilbao to Baza (north of Almeria) - nothing like as far as you're going and still pretty tiring. How long is the ferry do you know?
