General / Which Fazer is the best and why?
« on: 11 June 2023, 08:56:02 pm »
So, we are all here because of the Yamaha Fazer but which one is the best?

I have had several FZS600 and regret selling my first one but have also ridden the FZ1. The FZ1 didn't do anything for me. It just felt big and cumbersome. It was quick but was not the bike for me. I have sat on the FZ6 and the FZS1000 but never ridden them.

So which ones have you ridden, which was the better one and why?

you can keep the original timing of the Fazer for low end.torque with a bit of oomph but timed for high end it will just zoom away.

did you dyno the bike before and after? Does it really make a difference or is it wishful thinking?

Don't leave the forum just because you have sold the bike - you will be back at some point anyway when you realise your mistake :pokefun

You have knowledge that can help others so stick around.

« on: 05 June 2023, 08:43:14 am »
Did your policy at the time have "legal cover"? If so, that's who needs to be involved - you paid for it

Its the insurance companies issue and they should be fighting it. They wont though. They don't want to spend any money they don't have to so if there is any doubt they will roll over and go 50/50 with you ultimately paying through loss if no-claims etc etc. Insurance companies are really just legalised thieves.

How is Mr Merc explaining the damage? You reversed into him? At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you brake checked him or he had his eyes shut, he has a duty of care when driving to ensure he can stop in the space available. He obviously didn't as his car hit yours.

« on: 22 May 2023, 06:56:22 pm »
swap the carbtune pipes around

1&2 to cylinder 3&4, 3&4 to 1&2 and see if the problem is still visible on the carbtune as it appears now. i.e. prove its not the gauges causing a non-issue

The Vulcan is a nice looking rifle. Very similar to the Original one I have. Worth about £125 each.
I have no idea about the pistols as not my thing but value is about £150 each.

109
is it high value? If not could you afford to lose the money?
If in doubt, dont do it.

Look at the Yamaha service manuals in the download section for the correct carb settings for your model.

Rebuilding the carbs isnt difficult - getting the foccers back in can be a bit tricky though.

Check the throttle cable isnt too tight and that the air screws are all set correctly too.

My renewal came through a week or two back. Something like a 25% discount on last year.

I would hazard a guess that my two bikes have done less than 100 miles in the last 2 years between them. I definitely need to get out more - need to fix the FZS and MOT both first though.

« on: 16 March 2023, 08:09:37 am »
If you have a good spark then its got to be fuel related. Does the cylinder "kick in" when you get the revs above 4-5K? If so, you have a blocked idle jet. If not, both jets or the fule bowl needle are blocked. Either way, its a carbs out and clean job. Not uncommon with modern fuel unfortunately.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: 3rd cylinder cold - blocked air passage ?
« on: 12 March 2023, 04:48:59 pm »
the same coil does 1&4 and the same coil does 2&3 so a bad coil would affect its other cylinder too.

Have you tried balancing the carbs?

Nothing looks blocked.
Idle screw was about 3 turns before rebuild, but I decided to do 2,5 as in the manual. Would that make one cylinder not idle?

Blocked idle jet - my money is on this still
Poor connection on HT lead

sounds like a blocked idle jet

give the bike some beans on a run to see if that makes it click on a notch. If not, put it in gear and rock the bike back and forth a bit with the engine off .

You dont always want to delete history as it shows what things have sold for etc or have been for sale previously.

Sellers should however update their post to say its been sold to make life easier for people just the same as when you have an issue you have asked for help on, let people know what the casue/fix was as this will help people know more than just "fixed - post deleted" that we see sometimes.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Centre stand
« on: 27 January 2023, 08:57:54 pm »
to be honest, getting the bike of the main stand is easy IF the stand isnt bent, the bracket isnt bent and you are not a 10st weakling.

As said above, stand on the left, left foot in front of the main stand, right hand on the brake lever and rock forwards, if thats too hard , right hand on the grab rail. Push/pull the bike forwards. job done.

My Tiger has a bent stand/bracket so the rear wheel is on the floor when on the main stand meaning a lot more force required to get it off the stand.
