GSR 750 ?

Retuned 2005 GSXR750 lump in a Streetfighter package. Not totally unlike the Z800 ???

Good 'nearly new' bargains to be had too.

Cheers Lez

I sat on one in swansea...the owner thought id love it...it was comfy...maybe a smidge small if being picky......but the quality didnt shine through...still a capable bike from what i hear though.

I hear what your saying. It seems the weedy looking swingarm seems to get a bit of stick but this is based on looks and not performance as I'm sure its up to the job. However, the prices seem reflective of the overall package. Besides, the quality doesn't really shine through on the FZS600 but we still love em.

That Brutale 800 does look sweet though  8)

General / Modifications Section
« on: 08 April 2014, 12:37:32 am »
Is there a section on this site where we can go for tech info about modifications folk have done to their Fazers ? If there is, I can't seem to find it.

It would be good to have a section where we can go to source info on common modifications like the R6 (or other) shock mods and R1 (or other) front end conversions with the relevant parts listed so its easier to source the correct model year parts and work involved for those thinking about performing such a modification.

I know there is a sticky in the Gen 1 section regarding the R6 shock mod but it would be nice to have all the info in one place.

Any info regarding any modification would be worthy of note from which brakepads work best through to different wheels, seats, handlebars etc etc.

Modifications regarding any model in the Fazer family should be welcomed. That way it would save using the useless 'search' function. I personally can never seem to find the info I am after using this method. However, I am particularly useless with computers.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the one pictured above is a UK bike that has had a paintjob. I don't think the American ones had the 2 tone black and grey with that black stripe down the centre of the tank. Maybe it was a previous owners preference to have 'FZ1' graphics on the upper cowling rather than 'Fazer'  :rolleyes

That paintjob is definitely an original american paint job. For what it's worth i think it's really nice :)

I stand corrected. Its not a paint scheme I have seen before but I just had a browse through the old 'Fazer Parade' thread and found one in there. Its a lovely looking paint scheme IMO.

Its one of those bikes that most people would probably have a hoot on but they are worried too much about what other people might think. There's a lot of bikes around like that and a lot of people too. A chap at work bought a spanking 650 a couple of years ago and he does regular trips abroad on it with other folk on sportsbikes. 1) he doesn't get left behind 2) he arrives with his wrists and back still intact.

He wouldn't be without it and he had a Honda Blackbird before that and prefers the Burgman.

I don't know you Ogri but I wish you all the best and hope things pass as painlessly as possible under the circumstances. Maybe when the inevitable happens to all of us we will get to drift off to a better place.

Excellent choice Locksmith. It's nice to see someone taking the plunge and going for what they want out of life. Definitely worth the extra cash for the ABS. I regularly ride an FJR1300 with ABS and its worth its weight  :)

I know what you are saying Nick, fortunately I can afford pretty much what ever I want, but I don't. I have to justify it to myself, the amount I spend, what I will get out of it compared to the old one etc etc. I don't change just for the sake it and appreciate what I have got.
Bearing that in mind I have the same dilemma, the possibility of deeply regretting selling the Fazer!!!

So, if you can afford pretty much whatever you want, why not keep the Gen 2 aswell. You could have the MT09 for the sunny sunday plaything. Go on, you only live once and you can't take it with you  ;)

Conclusion 17, If you are dead set on getting a new bike maybe you should think outside the box and maybe look further afield than what Yamaha have to offer as it seems you have concluded from the previous 16 conclusions that most of the Yamahas you have sat on so far are not right for you  ;)

For my next bike I have come to my conclusion number 1 that it needs to have some grunt and be comfortable. The way it looks is not going to be the priority. The ability to take me hundreds of miles in comfort is.

Besides, its not what you ride but the way that you ride it.

I'm sure the Street Triple is a blinding bike. All the reviews say so and people that have tried them on here also reckon the same. I reckon it will be too small for you though Noggy. Someone at work has just bought one and there's nothing to it. Its a spindly looking thing with very little road presence. I don't know if Triumph have done something radical to the styling but when these first came out I thought they looked really good but the one at work is brand new and its put me off them. Besides, I don't think a second hand Speed Triple would be any dearer and it has way better road presence. The Street Triple seems overpriced to me.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Radiator side covers.. Help me decide
« on: 23 March 2014, 09:59:13 pm »
Personally I'd just respray the originals. The stainless side covers have no other benefit that aesthetics if you like that kind of thing but I think the originals look better.

Depending on the colour of your bike you may want to spray them black for a more stealthy look  8)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Not sure what to do.

I has the misfortune of having to tow a caravan about a week ago with a minibus. I only had to move it a couple of miles on somebody elses behalf, might I add, but it was a harrowing experience. How on earth anybody would want to drag one of those things for hundreds of miles is beyond me  :rolleyes

Yes, 'Cager in Training', Weekend Warrior' etc relates to how active you are on the forum and how many posts you make. Don't be offended by it as it has nothing to do with your experience as a motorcyclist.

Even though some people think it has.

Its just a gauge of how much you like typing  ;)

Hey Noggy. I might have missed it despite having read through all of the previous posts but is a Gen 1 in the equation ? Surely its an option ?

I personally think the Street Triple will be a bit cramped if you have long legs. You also mention you like to do 300 odd mile round trips and although most bikes will do this, there are obviously some that are better at it than others. I personally think bikes like the Street Triple, KTM, Tuono, MT09 etc would be a little tiresome over these distances but that's just my opinion as I haven't owned any of them but have considered them. I sat on a Tuono a couple of weeks back and the seat was like a plank. The same as with the MT09 and with the tank range of the MT09 you would have to fill up at least twice over 300 miles.

Have you considered (dare I say it) a Suzuki Bandit 1250 or a Triumph Tiger 1050 ? I'm thinking they are better for a taller rider, have plenty of grunt, are comfortable and could quite easily cover 300 mile stints. I'm also sure in the right hands they could be thrown around a fair bit too. Deceptively so in fact. The Tigers are still a bit expensive 2nd hand but the bandits are superb value for money. There is a 2011 model on Ebay at the minute with barely over 1000 miles on it for £4500 and it looks mint. They even made a limited edition streetfighter model of the 1250 with a single seat cowl, dual exit exhaust and Renthal bars as standard. Nothing groundbreaking I guess but they look pretty nice and the 1250 engine is allegedly a cracking engine with 80 ft lb of Torque delivered at around 3700 rpm.

They may not be what your looking for but if you go online and read the reviews, most of them are positive. I'll probably end up with something like that as although I can dream about a Ducati Hypermotard, MT09, Tuono V4R, KTM Superduke etc etc etc I don't really think they are mile munchers. I'm quite confident that they are stonking bikes but for me personally I imagine I would be wanting to go home after a 50 mile blast if my licence was still intact.

As a side note, Ogri's CB1300 looks awesome  :b

When mine went, I ordered a genuine Yamaha one from 'Fowlers'. From memory it only cost me about £15 although that was about 3 years ago. Buy cheap buy twice. At least with a genuine one you know it will fit 1st time  ;)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Not sure what to do.
« on: 22 March 2014, 12:56:40 am »
Noggy, I feel your pain mate. I'm going to agree with the foccers who have advised you to scratch the itch. As you know, I have been wondering whether to go for something different recently aswell, albeit for different reasons to yours. There is nothing wrong with the FZS600 in the real world and I guess that's what makes it such a loveable little bike but there are a shit load more machines out there to try and cliché, "We are here for a good time, not a long time".

If it were me faced with your dilemma I personally wouldn't spend too much on your current Fazer. I would keep it safe and roadworthy and that's about it and then ride it until you have worked out a suitable replacement. Definitely go on a few test rides before taking the plunge if they are available. The whole bike buying decision lies with working out exactly what you want from a bike and doing your research to enable you to find the right machine at the right price. You mention a ballpark figure spend of around £1500 to get your Fazer to where you want it. That's a hell of a lot of money to put towards something else.

Agreed, you could go down the suspension upgrade route but I have personally decided with my Fazer that it would be false economy as she rides pretty good on the stock stuff. I've had a fair few bikes over the years of which the majority have been new (ish) sports bikes and the little Fazer feels no worse than any of them and has very predictable and confidence inspiring handling. Besides, I personally think its nice to have to work a bike and kick it back into line when it shakes it's head. If you did replace the suspension and the bike suddenly became the most awesome thing you had ever ridden you would still keep thinking about buying something else as the seed in your mind has already started growing and you also appear to have fallen out of love with the way your bike looks and the fact it has been crashed.

In short, Start thinking about your next bike by thinking outside the box. Consider what you want from a bike and include bikes that you previously wouldn't have thought about owning. I bought my boxeye on a bit of an impulse but have enjoyed owning it. Go on as many test rides as you can and keep saving the pennies. If your budget is around £4000 that can buy you a hell of a lot of bike these days. If you do regret moving away from the boxeye it's not like there's a shortage of them in circulation and I'm sure you could bag yourself another one easily enough if you wanted to.

Oh, and most of all good luck. I'm sure you will make the decision that's right for you in the end  ;)
