For Sale & Wanted / 2002 Fazer 1000 on 51 plate for sale
« on: 03 March 2013, 06:49:01 pm »
Hi all,

I have decided to sell my Fazer as it really is not the bike for me.

My Fazer is a 2002 51 plate Fazer 1000 with 41,000 miles on the clock.

Its had a recent service (end of last year) where the oil and filter was replaced.  At the same time I replaced the spark plugs, checked the clearances,  (all OK and did not need shimming), balanced the carbs and replaced the chain and chain rings.  I also fitted a scottoiler.

Last year I removed and free`d off the ex up valve, lubricated it and replaced the cables and adjusted it all so it all worked. (Its a detuned r1 engine in the Frazer thousand and apparently these seizing are a common fault.

Over the winter I removed the radiator, downpipes and swingarm.  I replaced the downpipe studs with stainless as the originals had seized and put stainless dome headed nuts on to prevent the same thing happening again.

I cleaned and polished the headers (they are chrome plated stainless) and they have come up nicely.  I resprayed the front of the engine and the rocker cover and the rad and all associated rad and fan brackets.

I resprayed the swingarm and greased all of the swingarm bearings and replaced the rear shock with an r6 shock from Luke.

The brake callipers were all overhauled with the pistons being popped out, cleaned, new seals and then new fluid flushed and bled through for front and rear.

The bike has heated grips and rental bars to give a more upright seating position.

I have some spares to go with it - front discs and pads, rear discs, rear plastics and undertrays, exhaust, nuts and bolts and various other bits and bobs.

The bike is MOT,d till end may and taxed till June.  Its been 100% reliable and never let me down.

I have also got a load of receipts, old more and manuals etc for the bike.

If you'd like any more pictures let me know.

I did a thread on the work I did on the bike here:

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=325067

I've got a givi rack, top box and panniers which I was going to sell seperatley I'm sure we can come to some arrangement with them if you are interested.

I'm looking for £1800ono which I think is reasonable but can't find anything to base it on so if you think its a bit much please shout...

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Tarting up my Fazer
« on: 19 January 2013, 02:16:40 pm »
Last year I bought a fazer 1000 off one of the forum members from UKGSER.  It needed a bit of work as he had bought it from a guy who had taken it to bits and never put it back together.....

This is one of the pictures that Martin sent me of it in his garage.  It had been SORN'D since 2008.

My first job was to put it back together and make it so I could ride it over the summer and see what needed doing.

I did this in a few weeks and this was just as I was taking it for its first MOT since 2008.   It promptly blew the front fork seals on the way to the MOT centre.....

I did these and spent some time freeing up the exup valve which was seized solid.  It cost me a new set of exup cables (get a mortgage) and some tungsten carbide bits to remove the tap which snapped off in one of the holes that I had had left from drilling the exup valve bolts out.

I rode it over the summer and added some panniers and a top box and had a great time with my son Ewan.

When the winter came I had a list of work to do...

The first was to refurbish the swingarm.  I also wanted to replace the rear shock as it was weeping oil and refurbish the front of the engine.

First the swingarm.  Easy to remove.

Before paint.

The swingarm and the hugger after rubbing down, etch primer and paint.

The front of the engine before paint.

The exhaust headers were removed (no studs sheared in the removal of this header...) and the front of the engine sprayed with Simoniz aluminium engine enamel (a good match). New exhaust studs (stainless) and nuts fitted.

The exhaust headers were polished with wire wool and t cut.

The radiator, fan and radiator guard sprayed with Hammerite Satin Black.

I'm now starting to reassemble the bike - just waiting for some rad hoses to arrive, exhaust gasket rings, R6 shock and some other bits and bobs.

I'll try and remember to keep adding to this.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Coolant hoses
« on: 18 January 2013, 05:25:29 pm »
Hi,

I'm looking for a set of coolant hoses but do not want to pay for or have silicone hoses.  I would rather put the oe kit on.

Does anyone know of any suppliers apart from my stealer?

Thanks

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Exhaust Header Refurbishment
« on: 06 January 2013, 06:05:58 pm »
Managed to get the exhaust header off today without shearing any studs off!  4 came out still attached to the nuts so have ordered 4 new studs to put in and I think I may order some brass nuts to replace the mild steel nuts.

The header appears to be stainless which has been plated?  But it looks as though it is cheap stainless and the plating is breaking down.

What have people done to give these a new lease of life?  Wire wool to get back to the stainless and polish it?  Exhaust paint?

Thanks

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Scottoiler placement
« on: 04 January 2013, 01:25:56 pm »
Hi All,

I fitted a scottoiler to my 2002 fazer 1000 and followed scottoiler's suggested placement.

I'm not happy with where it is and since I'm in the process of refurbishing my swingarm have decided to look at refitting it.

Has anyone put the oiler anywhere other than under the seat and different placement of the injection nozzle.  I'm thinking of placing it on the front sprocket and have done some searching on the forum where people have talked about doing it but cannot find any info as to if its worked or not.

Has any got any advice and most importantly some pictures :-)

Thanks

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - Big Tourer
« on: 24 September 2012, 12:58:17 pm »
Hi All,

I'm fed up with getting a numb arse on my 51 plate fazer 1000.

Does anyone have something like a Pan European / FJR1300 / BMW RT/K/GSA to swap for it?

The fazer has had a full service, new chain, sprockets and Scotoiler, nearly new tyres, new EXUP valve cables and freed off and refurbished valve.  The fork seals have been replaced and new oil and the forks set up.  The headlights have been modified to come on both together  (common mod).  Its MOT'd until May next year.

The mainstand and the sidestand have been de-rusted, holes welded up and repainted.

I can see no signs of it being dropped.

Its a 51 plate.  It has a full service history (although not all main dealer) and has around 41,000 miles on the clock.  (I use it so it goes up a bit).

What have you got?

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted: tubular pannier rails for 2001 Fazer 1000
« on: 27 August 2012, 07:51:34 pm »
Hi ,

I've just been given a set of kappa panniersand found a kappa top box rack on eBay for a sensible sum.

I'm looking for the pannier rails to go with it - I presume either givi or kappa will fit?

Introduction / Hi All
« on: 16 June 2012, 05:55:31 pm »
Hi,

I've just bought a 51 plate fazer 1000.

Needs a bit of work doing to it to put it all back together - but the engine runs so that is a bonus.

Got some parts on order and hopefully it will be ready for an mot in a few weeks time.
