For Sale & Wanted / FOR SALE - FZS600S 2001 - Eastbourne
« on: 25 March 2015, 07:50:48 am »
Unfortunately due to ill health I am going to have to sell my beloved Fazer – anyone interested?

She is a 2001 Fazer S in gold with only 57k on the clock.

She has been recently serviced with new DIDI gold chain and sprockets, a new battery and a K&N.  She has a good set of Road Pilot 3 tyres and last year she had her carburettors rebuilt with new float valves and rubbers before they were balanced – she also had her valve clearances done. When I brought her 3000 miles ago I replaced her wheel and sprocket carrier bearings.  I have also only just had the crash bars re-epoxied so they look new.

She is MOT’ed until July but has only done 300 miles since the last test because I was banned from riding her by my wife!  She only had 1 advisory which was the rear brake pads – I have not had a chance to replace them but the bike does come with a new set ready to fit.

She comes with a top box, heated grips, stainless sporty exhaust, braided hoses, LED indicators, alarm and immobiliser (with 2 sets of keys + fobs) etc.
She is in good clean condition for her year and although she has slightly high mileage this was down to a previous owner that used her for a motorway commute.  She has been garaged by me and the previous owner and left on an optimiser.  She is started regularly and left to warm up and cleaned more than ridden – she is well loved and has never wanted for anything.

This is a really reluctant sale as I had no intention of selling her at all but  as I cant ride her and haven’t done for nearly a year I think she needs a new home where she can be used …… my wife doesn’t know it but I’m looking to buy a Fazer 1000 next year when I’m fixed!!!!

Looking for offers round £1450 for her.

(She is located in Eastbourne Sussex.)

FZS600 Fazer / Fairings
« on: 16 December 2013, 01:59:40 pm »
Hello, having had my Fazer for a few years I considered chopping her in for something else, for no reason other than I fancied a change.
BUT reality set in.  My Fazer is clean and tidy, running well, has new tyres and does everything I ask of her, its also and not worth a light!  I like the way it handles, the riding position and its plenty quick enough really.
As I struggled to find something that I want/ can afford/won’t regret changing to.  I have decided I’m going to keep her...... where is this going ??? I hear you ask......
Well, I was thinking - Maybe a set of Fairing Lowers would make her look like a different bike, but with all the perks of Keeping the Devil you know..... I prefer the look of the SV650 with Fairing Lowers rather than without but I have never actually seen a FZS600 with them fitted.
Has anyone ever fitted these to their bike and did they work or were they rubbish?  What’s your thoughts on these?

I am struggling to find any pictures of a 2000 plate gold and black one with them on and can’t find any reviews on line at all.

FZS600 Fazer / Whats my noise?
« on: 30 September 2013, 10:20:48 am »
Hi Guys – time to pick your brains again – sorry it’s a long post.

On Friday whilst riding to work I noticed a slight knocking as I’m riding along.  This is a new knock and I have never noticed it before – she makes other bangs and rattles but this is different.  A quick check in the car park at work reveals nothing obvious falling off and I forget about it for the day.

In the afternoon I ride home to find it has got more noticeable – maybe as I’m looking for it now but I’m convinced it’s really obvious.  All the way home I’m worried about the front sprocket flying off  – having had a sprocket issue on this very bike before.

The knock can be felt through your left boot as it rests on the peg, it seems to be regular like a drum beat.  It goes (or is masked) when I accelerate but is present when I am either maintaining speed or slowing down.  It doesn’t happen in neutral or with the clutch depressed while moving and doesn’t happen when stationary.  I have had the bike on its centre stand and seems to do it in all gears so happens also when it not under load.

There is no change in the bikes performance, no smoke and it still sounds the same.

Things I have ruled out – but I’m happy to rule them back in if you think they might be to blame!

+ My imagination – my mechanic uncle has ridden the bike and can feel the same knock.
+ Oil – It has oil in it!
+ Front sprocket about to fly off– we stuck a camera up there and the nut and washer is still tight and exactly where we left it.
+Wheel bearings – both front, back and sprocket carrier bearings were changed about 2500 miles ago when I fitted new tyres.

Having spent the best part of an entire weekend about this time last year trying to find a metallic rattle which sounded terminal only to find it was one of the LED’s in my indicator that had worked loose I thought I would ask the question on here fist….. “What is my noise?”

I have already ordered a new chain, front and rear sprocket for her – the current ones look OK but are a little worn – but not enough to cause this I wouldn’t have thought.

If it helps the bike is a FZS600s in gold, on a 2000 plate and has covered only 56000 miles.

Thanks guys – looking forward to some suggestions…..

FZS600 Fazer / ditching my air box
« on: 16 April 2013, 10:59:58 pm »
Just taken my carbs off......again - this time for a stuck float valve.

Whilst its in bits, has anyone on here got rid of their air box and fitted 4 conical k&n filters directly to the carbs?

If so what was the result? I know it will need a jetting kit but did it produce any more HP or was it a disaster? Is it worth the grief? I have considered the standard k&n replacement but everyone does that!

Also can anyone help me out with some k&n part numbers? My carbs have a 50mm inlet diameter and I trust you guys and girls more than a random sales assistant!

I might do it for the hell of it!

Thanks, looking forward to some replies.

FZS600 Fazer / What is my annoying noise??? Any ideas?
« on: 03 March 2013, 07:19:12 am »
Morning everybody – more advice needed by fellow Foccer!
My bike has developed a noise which kicks in at about 4500rpm and disappears  at about 6000rpm.  The noise is a buzzing type noise, like a vibration.  It seems to be coming from the engine somewhere but cant work out where exactly.  It does it in neutral, in gear with the clutch in and while under power.
Initially I though it was the key vibrating on the handle bar to give you an idea of the noise.  As for the volume, I can hear it while I’m riding if I listen out for it or when at a standstill it is quite prominent.
Bike isn’t riding any different, doesn’t miss a beat, pulls like a train in every gear inc through the noisy rpm range.  No smoke, loss of power or misfire. It’s been doing it about a week or  10 days.
The bike is a 2001 FZS600 which has done a mere 58000 miles.  It has recently been serviced, had the valve clearances and the carbs balanced.  Not sure if that’s relevant.....
Any ideas gratefully received as its going to get taken to bits today to try to diagnose and would be handy to have some bits to check.
Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Side Stand Starting Issue – Help needed.
« on: 23 November 2012, 10:13:16 pm »
OK, I give up – I need help.

I have owned my beloved Fazer for about 8 months but recently it has developed a little niggle – it used to run on its side stand, but now it doesn’t.

This is what happened - At 0400hrs the other morning I warmed the bike up on its side stand as per normal.  Unlike most other days all didn’t go well and whilst overtaking a lorry in the outside lane of a busy duel carriageway in the pitch black all the lights went out – even the dashboard lights!

After a few near misses panic set in and I pulled the flasher button - to my relief the main beam pinged on main beam. With nowhere safe to pull over I rode for about 2 minutes with the flasher switch held in but this relief was short lived when the front light went out again and I was back in darkness.  Clean out of options I had to ride a little further before I could pull over and admit defeat. In a safe location I dropped the side stand and the engine stalled.

I didn’t think too much at the time as I was relieved to still be alive but when I collected the bike a few hours later – I found it didn’t start.  I was just about to call the RAC when I found it started with the stand up so I rode it home.

In the cold light of day the lights failing turned out to be due to the ignition switch – I have replaced this with a pattern part and I now have a full a compliment of lights again. By holding in the flasher switch  I managed to burn out the switch – I brought another set of switch gear on Ebay and this all now works fine but neither of these cured the starting issue with the side stand.  I have also replaced the side stand switch but to no avail.

Has anyone else had a stand starting issue – and if so – what was it and how did you cure it?

The bike is a Gold/black/silver FZS600s.  It is a 2001 model and has only got 56000 on the clock.

Any help is much appreciated.
