General / Neighbours barking dog... Advice
« on: 25 May 2014, 04:22:08 pm »
Hi Guys,

My neighbour got a new dog about 6 months ago. She is absolutely beautiful and has a lovely nature. However, the dog barks in 20 minute bursts, relentlessly, about 3-4 times a day. This started when they would leave it at home for 8-10 hours a day when she was a pup. They don't walk her a great deal or pay her a lot of attention, and when I'm in the garden and play with her the barking stops.

Now we have a "comfortable" relationship with the neighbours. We are not friends, but we chat over the fence, say hi and talk to their kids. I don't want to upset the apple cart, but I am tired of listening to the barking dog.

Don't get me wrong, we are not the quietest neighbours. I have 4 motorcycles and work shifts. Sometimes stating work or coming home between 5am-6am. I also am a former Dj with a home studio. My friends ride bikes and/or Dj, so music and motorcycles are not uncommon in my household. I am always respectful as to the time of day and appreciate that people are sleeping and we have young kids next door.

I never complain about people doing their thing, cutting grass, playing music or whatever. Even when I'm on nightshift, I just work around it as it's my choice to work shifts and don't expect anyone to tip-toe around me. But the dog is wearing us down. I'm listening to it right now and it is stressful.

Give me your opinion guys. Do I continue to put up with it or do I talk to my neighbour and risk opening a can of worms?

Cheers

General / Switzerland
« on: 23 April 2014, 01:10:54 pm »
I was planning my 20014 Euro tour with my mate last night, and somehow we have managed to get 18 days away on our own!!! No idea how, but we did. So, we are traveling through 10 countries (including Scotland and England) and breaking the trip up with a few nights in one place followed by a couple of days on the road.

We have decided to stop in Switzerland for 3 nights and will be travelling to there from my friend's (and his brother) house in Bagni di Lucca in Italy. We will be heading on from there to Picardy in France.

I know some of you guys have been to Switzerland before and I was looking for some info as to the best area, roads and so on.

I will start a new thread nearer the time with the specifics of our trip, but right now Switzerland is my focus.

As usual, thanks in advance for your help foccers  :D

For Sale & Wanted / Yamaha YZF 1000 Thunderace - ***REDUCED***
« on: 02 April 2014, 04:39:42 pm »
Yamaha YZF 1000 Thunderace
1996 P reg
21,900 miles
New MoT
Just fully serviced
V5 present
HPI clear
2 keys
Remus full exhaust system with carbon fibre can
Braided hoses
K & N air filter
£1750

I have done loads of work on this bike over the last few months including engine flush, Rad flush, full fluid change (brake, clutch, oil, radiator) full service, all bearings checked, carburettors balanced, suspension reset, WD40 clean and treatment, new stainless steel fasteners and everything torqued up to Yamaha spec.

I have a full and comprehensive list of all the work done on the bike and pictures and parts boxes/containers to back up my claims. There are a couple of pictures of the bike being worked on too. http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,11047.0.html

There are a few tasteful additions to the bike without it being bastardised, including braided hoses front and back, tail tidy, new petal discs up front, gold x ring chain, K & N air filter and a full Remus exhaust system with carbon fibre silencer (sounds fantastic).

There are a few age related marks here and there and there is a ding on the tank where (I presume) someone has lifted the wrong side of the tank and bumped it off the fairing stay. It is still in very good condition though. The bike is good to go and wants for nothing. It looks good and rides great.

I have reduced the price to as low as I can go. I am making nothing on it, but I would like to move on to my next project before summer. If you want to see her, get in touch. Travelling Foccers will be fed and watered before a long ride home, no charge.

General / Garmin Zummo 350 vs TomTom Rider V5
« on: 18 March 2014, 11:04:07 pm »
I am planning this years Euro-trip, and as I bough everything I needed for last years trip, I am planning to treat myself to a bike specific sat-nav.

I have done the whole car nav in waterproof holder and smart phone via bluetooth headset thing. It is a pain in the arse. The sun makes the screen hard to see. The touch screen does not work with gloves. The routes are not "biker friendly". They are not really waterproof as condensation covers the inside of the screen every morning. I am on holiday and am NOT INTERESTED IN DOING THAT ANY MORE.

I am interested in the opinions of you guys who own one, other or have had both at some point. Good points and bad points.

I have read a bunch or reviews and it seems that they both have pro's and cons. Really, I would like to have one for a week and then the other so I can try em out. But that is not how it works. So I am hoping some of you knowledgeable foccers are willing to share your wisdom.

General / Sticking switch
« on: 13 March 2014, 08:55:08 am »
I went for a run the other day and coming up to a left turn a driver, who had been courteous, was right up my pipe and beeped his horn when passing. I noticed my indicator was not on, although I had activated it.

So I pulled over and tried it a few times. To the right is fine. However, to the left it seems to work sometimes and not others. I was thinking a blast with silicon spray might help?

I would rather try to repair it before replacing it.

Ideas foccers, please...

General / Lake District
« on: 26 February 2014, 11:42:35 am »
I am off on my annual solo bike tour next week. For a change I am heading to the Lake District. I usually head up to the highlands, but my bike could ride around there on its own, such is its experience of those roads  :rolleyes .  So I thought I would head "down souf" for a wee change.

I am looking for recommended roads and must do's from local experts. I am staying at Grange over Sands. I plan to batter down the motorway to somewhere like Penrith, then ride the rest through the countryside. Once I arrive at my accommodation I will dump my stuff and head out to play until it gets dark. I then have another 2 days to explore the area.

Any advice on roads, views, eateries and drinking holes most welcome  :D .

Thanks

General / Modifications
« on: 20 February 2014, 09:12:41 pm »
I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread dedicated to the modifications we have done to our Fazers. Most of us, if not all, have done a mod or two during the ownership of our steeds. This might be a good place for us to have a look at what others have done and maybe get some ideas as to where we should spend that extra money we have, even if it’s only a few quid.

I suggest we break it down into sections so we can quickly refer to an area of particular interest to us, without having to read everything everyone has done, every time we come to the thread.

I did all of my upgrades and mods myself, with the exception of a few that were on the bike when I bought it. It doesn’t matter if you did the work, you had it done or it was on there when you bought it. All that matters is that it is NON STANDARD.

So, without further ado, I will get the ball rolling…

General / Fairing fix needed
« on: 19 February 2014, 07:18:13 pm »
So, the rear fairing on my bike is in need of a repair (or I'm in need of something to do?). There are 3 sections. Left, right and middle/infill part. They screw together. Well the right one has no screw tabs as they are broken. So I was going to bond the infill section to the right fairing. Any suggestions what product to use? Please note that I have attempted this with glue and it did not work. So I am looking for something more permanent and that will not damage the plastic.

Thanks guys

General / Re-Jetting the carburettors
« on: 14 February 2014, 10:28:31 am »
Hi Guys,

I was thinking of re-jetting the carburettors on my FZS 600. I have a full Leo Vince exhaust system and K & N filter, so the standard set up is not right. The bike also pops and spits on the overrun, which I love, but it means it is running lean and that can damage the engine, right?

I had a look at these kits - http://www.6sigmajetkit.com/yamaha-fzs-600-fazer-jet-kit.html & http://www.dynojet.co.uk/index.php/vehicle-info?make=YAMAHA&model=FZS600+FAZER&year=2000&Go=Go

Not sure which to go for, if any?

I guess I am just board of the freezing winter nights and need something to do. My internet search history is getting crazy. I spent about 3 hours last night reading about dogs... I don't even own a dog and have no plans on getting one. Although a Burnese Mountain Dog seems like a great pet, if anyone is interested  :rolleyes

Anyway, any of you guys done this job? Is it worthwhile? And which kit would you go for?

Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / Steering Damper Proect
« on: 31 January 2014, 02:59:00 pm »
So, having fitted my FG Gubellini shock I realised I have taken my bike as far as I can with worthwhile bike specific additions. So I decided I now have to start thinking about modifying parts designed for other bikes, because the idea of finishing my 2 1/2 year project with the Fazer is making me sad on the inside.

The other day I lost out on a steering damper from a BMW S1000RR. But this morning I won one from a K5 GSXR 750  :D .

I have no idea if I can make it fit my bike, but I will be posting the results up here either way.

Have any of you lot tried this before? And if so, what was your success rate?

General / What to get for him...?
« on: 20 January 2014, 09:06:12 pm »
My mate just did a load of work my car for me. Fitted tyres. Service. Software update. Fitted pads and discs and even machined the front discs because the wrong ones were supplied.

Now we have been mates for nearly 20 years and he will not take money, so I always buy hime something.

He rides a SV650. I was going to get him a rear spring from Hyperpro or a set of braided lines and 25mm dog bones. The 2 things he complains about are braking and suspention. He has changed the front springs to Hyperpro progressive numbers, so that would match up with the rear. But, when we were at the Nurburgring last year he said about the spongyness of the brakes... So lines and dog bones would address both issues.

Ideas. And if anyone has or has had an SV650, please share your thoughts.

And no, I am not getting him a Fazer (although I have made the suggestion  ;) )

General / Car Tyres, Again (Sorry)
« on: 12 January 2014, 10:04:35 pm »
Hi Again Guys,

Quick question. I have found a great deal on some hoops for my car, and given money was a consideration on this purchase, I have to ask your collective opinion. My rims are 225, and the manufacturer recommendation is 225/45/17 91Y. I have found a set of 4 tyres that I want at a great price, but they are 215/45/17 91W. I know it is only 10mm a difference, and its not as if I drive to the limit of the car, or even close, so the Y/W wont make any difference. So am I safe to fit these? It is the last set in stock according to the website, so I sort of need to act on it, and want them to be here for Saturday as my mate is going to fit them for me. I would ask him this question, but he turns his phone off on a Sunday. I appreciate your feedback foccers :)

Hi Guys,

I am clearing out the last of the 2013 stock. What does not sell here will be going to the local Triumph/Yahmaha dealership & eBay. RoadRash Jeans is my own brand that I have been building for over 4 years. The jeans are designed by my myself and a design manufacturer I work with here in the UK. I have been established in the market since 2010 and sold these jeans in over 30 countries. I have a sponsored stunt rider who wears RoadRash Jeans during performances and I have worked with big brands such as Triumph and Krieger. You can find loads more info at www.roadrashjeans.com

The following styles/sizes are available for immediate dispatch on a first come first served basis.

Classic - 36W/34L

Urban Rider (some light blue, some original) -

40W/34L
38W/34L
36W/34L
34W/34L
32W/34L

Ladies - 18R

Offered to foccers for £50. Courier delivery is £5 UK mainland. If 2 pairs are ordered at the same time, there will be no extra delivery charge. I will deliver worldwide at cost. I can also offer the armour pack purchased with jeans for £10 extra.

I can only accept Paypal "gift" or bank transfer to a business account at this price. I will also accept regular Paypal payment, with the charges at the buyers expense.

This is lower than the trade price. And just to be clear, these are not cheap nasty (made in China) jeans like grin factor or other junk you can buy off eBay. This is a quality product, engineered for bikers, built to a standard and not a price, that retails and sells for between £89.99-149.99 in dealerships and shops.

PM if interested.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

I have 6 pairs of surplus headphones for sale. I bought them as a drop-ship order to give as gifts to friends and colleagues at Christmas. The package arrived from Europe and it says on the box they are made in Japan, so I think they are genuine, although I could not be 100% certain. They are brand new in box and they are £30 delivered to UK mainland, which is what I paid for them. I have a pair as my spare ones in the studio (I use Sennheiser HD25-1 II as my full time cans) and have given a couple of pairs to my mate who is still an active nightclub DJ. They sound good and feel quite nice. Certainly better than other headphones at this price.

General / Car Tyres
« on: 05 January 2014, 08:13:15 pm »
Hi Guys,

I am in need of 2 new front tyres, and as these things go, I got a nasty puncture on a rear tyre yesterday which can not be repaired. So I will just buy a set of 4.

The problem is, I have a bunch of stuff to shell out on this month and next. I need to do the front brakes on the car. It is also overdue a service, which I will also do. My 125 is due a service (not to expensive). I have a few bits to finish on the Fazer and I just bought a Thunderace before Christmas, which I was planning on doing up. Also, we booked a holiday the day before the puncture and fly out at the start of March, so I need to save a bit for that.

Anyway, my point is, I use Pirelli tyres on the car usually. Have done for 15 years and they work for me and my driving style, even when I had the rear wheel drive Mx5.

This time I am going to have to buy budget tyres and am unsure where to spend the money. I will have to order this week as the fronts are under 1.6mm (although it is still biking weather most days). I had a look at these - http://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-details/sailun-atrezzo-z4-as-225-45-r17-94-w-xl#48498309. There seems to be mixed reviews. I don't like the idea of them being from China, but on a budget, do I have a choice? Has anyone used them before, or can you recommend another tyre around this price? +/- a tenner a hoop would be fine. FYI, I drive a SAAB 9-3 AERO Turbo with 210BHP, front wheel drive. I don't drive like a boy-racer, but I do like occasional fun when a boy-racer passes me. Any advice appreciated, and please only first hand experience if possible. Thanks

General / Unwanted Christmas Gifts...
« on: 01 January 2014, 05:22:41 pm »
We all get them. A jumper that's too big (or too small in my case). A CD you already have. Aftershave designed for someone your sons age. Jeans with vajazzle stitching. You get the idea. Well this year, instead of putting it on eBay/Gumtree or the for sale and wanted section, why not do what I'm doing and put it all in a a box and donate it to a charity of your choosing. I'm sure you could live without the few quid it brings in, it will cost you nothing and someone less fortunate than yourself will benefit from it. You might even get a nice feeling on the inside.

I'm not trying to preach here, its just an idea I had and though I would share it with you Foccers.

Happy new year and all the best for 2014

General / Winter Project
« on: 18 December 2013, 04:52:20 pm »
Hi Guys,

I bought this yesterday as a wee project to work on over those long winter nights. It has 21,000 miles, some decent mods (braided hoses, tail tidy, K & N filter) and some no so decent (stickers, shitty mini indicators).

My plan is to do all of the work myself as nothing to technical is required. It needs a new sprocket cover, a full service, fluid change, callipers cleaned up and a deep valet.

It is going to be more labour intensive than anything, but it keeps me busy  :D

General / Paypal Bastards!
« on: 15 December 2013, 02:28:10 pm »
Hi Guys,

A word of festive warning...

I ordered some stuff online last Sunday, which totalled £177 including the £8 I paid for 48 hour delivery. My stiff has still not arrived and I just called the merchant to see what the problem is. They told me that Paypal have not released the funds and emailed them to say that they should NOT send the stuff until they have full payment, which will be the 18th.

Now I paid at the time of order and the full amount came out my account on the 11th, so Paypal have decided to keep my money for 10 without my consent. There is also a good chance my stuff will arrive late for Christmas despite it being ordered with 17 days to spare.

Just a warning for all you last minute shoppers.

FZS600 Fazer / Clutch Adjustment
« on: 28 November 2013, 05:33:19 pm »
I replaced the clutch friction plates on my FZS 600 Boxeye and am having trouble getting the bloody thing to work. I fitted a set of EBC heavy duty springs, but did not like the feel, so I re-fitted the original springs. The plates were replaced also with EBC heavy duty ones and the clutch was assembled as it was dismantled, same number of plates in the same order. Everything is torqued up to the correct settings and I replaced the cable too. I had a look at everything working before I replaced the clutch cover and it seems to be operating as it should. Pull lever in, pressure plate moves out... Ok then.

When I start the bike and pop it into first gear, it stalls with a little lurch forward (only little as the front brake is applied). I have would the adjuster at the lever all the way IN (which gives the maximum amount of slack, right?), and adjusted the screw down at the sprocket cover to Haynes recommendations (tighten until you feel resistance, then back a quarter turn). I have also tried unwinding the screw full, which makes the lever redundant (slack), and screwing it up beyond "feel resistance", which makes the lever VERY tight. The outcome is the same - bike stalls.

I am at the end of my tether and feel like I might have to go to a bike mechanic. I have never ever had to do this before. If there is anything else I can try before it comes to that, I will.

Any ideas foccers?
