FZS600 Fazer / Spark plug issue.. thread playing up:::: FIXED:::
« on: 28 August 2015, 10:17:20 pm »
took my front left plug out (sitting on the bike) and it was a bit tight then went loose then tight again getting it out...

got it out and it was an arse to get back in going tight and loose.. got it in but could hear it popping where it wasnt tight enough but it was hard to do up so didnt want to overdo it, put a new plug in but its still popping out the plug hole a little...

put my finger over the drain hole put some water round the plug and it was bubbling a little but not sure if its a vibration more than a bubble

Now what?

any easy way to clean the thread incase its covered in dirt or something?

the thread on the spark plug looks fine no damage.

title says it all...

the lower 2 sprocket cover bolts and bottom clutch cover bolt.

managed to lose 3 bolts ...

clearly didnt torque the sprocket cover bolts up enough when changing sprocket and clutch cover bolt held bellypan on... another i failed to torque up.

FZS600 Fazer / h1 headlight connector?
« on: 12 August 2015, 10:09:18 pm »
Anyone know where the hell i can find a h1 connector?

i left mine in the fairing when i did the hid conversion now its gone :(

its got 2 prongs on the bottom and the h1 bulb slots into it, i can only find the plain plastic one that holds the bulb but doesnt have the prongs

FZS600 Fazer / project small sun complete ( i think)
« on: 11 August 2015, 06:16:55 pm »
so, got main beam sorted with 2x 20w led spotlights...

dip beam still lacked even with an osram night breaker and the little cup removed..

so i purchased a h1 hid bulb from ebay.. then a ballast.. only to find the ballast didn't come with the wiring harness. ordered harness it arrived today so i set about fitting it ...

luckily the wiring harness has really odd length wires to make it super difficult...

the battery  to relay wire was super short meaning the relay needed to be kind of close to the battery.. and the plug from the relay that plugs into the fazers h1 plug was also short meaning somehow i had to stretch it from near the battery to the front of the bike..

then the power from the relay to the ballast was about 20-30 feet long meaning i had to coil it up loads.

settled on a place for the ballast and relay
works pretty well here.. strong double sided tape holding it against the cross member and some ghetto double sided tape on top just because why not.

(yes i did take the black wiring box out during the engine change and forgot to put it back in)

just my dip beam on

And for when i wish to go into overkill mode...

FZS600 Fazer / another year another mot pass
« on: 11 August 2015, 02:13:54 pm »
mot time again. passed yesterday but advisory on steering head bearings being slightly notchy..

Ive never noticed it before i even checked before going for its mot.

with the  bars sat in the middle turn it left or right a little and you can feel its sat in a groove, turn it more it pops out but let go of bars it settles itself straight.

Now i personally cannot be bothered with the hard work of changing bearings as youtube suggests its a pain!

mot guy said itll be fine.

question is..

My fazer doesnt corner amazingly well..

at "high speed" it does seem to throw the bars left and right a little giving me a mini tank slapper.

what do?

FZS600 Fazer / sprocket cover oil leak
« on: 06 August 2015, 03:08:00 am »
i think ive found the source of my oil leak, it appears to be from one of the bolt holes :S

the sprockets been off and no oil behind, clutch rod no oil, gear shaft no oil and a bolt hole seems to be full of oil..

now what?

the oil leak is noticeable after like 30+ miles itll leave a puddle the size of 2 50p coins.

FZS600 Fazer / sprockets, i went +1 front
« on: 21 July 2015, 10:27:13 pm »
Well ordered a +1 front and new upgraded nut + locking tab and changed today...

Took it out and its much smoother but i need to go back to standard tyre.

Before the sprocket was done i changed the tyre to a 160/80/17 so higher profile, lowered rpm a bit not enough though.

So with +1 front and +20 on profile i can do 40 at 3000rpm in 6th, i forget what 70 was i think something like 5000rpm... i went to a friends private road and 1st got me to 65mph and went on to about 120mph at about 8000rpm with loads to go.

so next plan is to drop the tyre to standard to bring revs up a little bit as it lacks pulling away power.

« on: 04 July 2015, 02:54:29 am »
from the old board...

is the info correct? i can phone any yam dealer and ask them to do this for me?

The Inspection Notice (not a recall) that Yamaha issued to the Dealerships essentially says the following:
Any FZS600 Fazers model (1998-2003), regardless of whether it still in warranty or has been serviced officially in the Dealer channel can be inspected at any official Dealer.Remove the existing nut and washer.Measure the drive shaft OD of the threaded part (micrometer or vernier caliper). If >= 17.5 mm -clean threads and fit a new washer & nut with threadlock. If < 17.5 mm -the drive shaft must be replaced. (This work could take between 1 day to 2 weeks depending on Dealer workload).

FZS600 Fazer / motrax backside, rear end tidy up time.
« on: 26 June 2015, 08:08:58 pm »
purchased a motrax rear end off sinto (thanks for fast postage)

fazer rear is ugly, and my undertray is broken around left indicator so it looks a little sad :(

fitted with standard under tray

wont work need to trim it soo.. masking tape a straight line and get the hacksaw on it.. it helps to make it as wonkey as possible  :rollin

fitted now its cut down..

looks better...

Next on the to do list:

I might cut it to where the reflector is but i feel it may leave a big gap at the back?

i need to order some indicators to replace the ones that are on it now.

any ideas on what to do with the back end?

FZS600 Fazer / clutch slip part 2: still have it: FIXED
« on: 18 June 2015, 12:28:02 am »
so i changed my oil to motul bike oil 10/40 ... flushed it through with 1l of motul 10/40 then put fresh oil in but still having clutch slip issues...

still as bad as it was before, ive just been for a 20 mile ride and its no better.

As a side note, i could be paranoid but my clutch feels pretty light, i can pull it with a slight bit of a struggle with my little finger only.

Now what?

Do i have to give it more time to soak in?
is it likely ive worn the friction plates too much using it whilst it was slipping for about 700 miles?

could the springs have anything to do with it?

id love to avoid changing the plates but if i HAVE to.

Bike info: 2003 engine, 25,000 miles, previously used car oil and clutch slip problem appeared.

FZS600 Fazer / oil change done.. with added fail!
« on: 17 June 2015, 05:59:50 pm »
so i bought some REAL oil for my bike..

drained old oil out let it drain for about 10 mins, sump bolt back in chucked the 1 litre bottle in let it sit for a few minutes then drained that out too to remove more of the old oil then filled it up.

Job done!  now to wheel bike back into its space...

Who knew an rxs 100's indicators are the same height as a fazer managed to hit the indicator of my rxs which is made super strong steel coated with strong steel coated with titanium... my indicator lost and got shoved into the fairing cracking around the indicator mount on nose cone :(

FZS600 Fazer / changing sprockets, +1 on front only
« on: 14 June 2015, 06:30:52 pm »
looking to change sprockets, they dont "need" doing but i want to bring revs down for motorway trips, would +1 on the front only be fine or do i have to do rear aswell?

will it make it accelerate too slowly if i just do the front

FZS600 Fazer / today i did think i goosed my gearbox
« on: 13 June 2015, 10:33:41 pm »
had a long motorway trip and almost at my destination i couldn't change gear i was stuck in first, i changed down fine but that was it so i parked up engine off still wouldn't go into gear. got rac number ready and kept trying whilst being so annoyed...

Looked around the gear lever and noticed the bottom sprocket cover bolt had come undone and wedged under the gear lever  :rollin :rollin did it up by hand as best i could and all is good!

FZS600 Fazer / engine surging/hunting
« on: 12 June 2015, 08:25:55 pm »
not sure how long its been doing it i think quite some time now but it wasnt noticeable as much untill i put my new exhaust on and i can hear it.

idle at 1200rpm but bounce up and down about 300rpm or so, not eratic but every few seconds itll go up then settle.. when riding along at a constant throttle i can just about feel it but can hear it in the exhaust tone.

ideas?

45
FZS600 Fazer / fuel tap, wasted fuel?
« on: 29 May 2015, 06:11:52 pm »
anyone else had their tap off?

reserve port blocked (obviously the tap is unusable once on the bike)

the main hose has the little filter with about 3/4 of an inch blocked off at the bottom so in theory you end up having a lot of fuel sat at the bottom of your tank so run out sooner than you normally would.

also note the funky looking face :D

46
FZS600 Fazer / this oil ok to use?

« on: 05 May 2015, 08:29:04 pm »
bikes been fine untill i did my last oil change now im getting fairly bad clutch slip.

Only way i can remove most of it is to turn the top adjuster all the way in but then the biting point is right near the bar but i still have clutch slip.

Wrong oil?

put in 15/40 semi synthetic

i used 15/40 semi synth before but i different brand and it was fine
