FZS600 Fazer / brake fluid vacuum bleeder
« on: 09 March 2014, 11:31:51 pm »
Hi,
About to replace rear brake fluid.
And I am looking at getting a vacuum bleeder, but a little spoilt for choice.

Which vacuum bleeders are people using are they all the same or different.
Because the Mityvac units without a gauge are £33+
and the Mityvac units with a gauge start at £43

But there are the cheaper units with a gauge starting at £17.24

FZS600 Fazer / flaking wing mirrors
« on: 04 March 2014, 08:13:09 pm »
Hi,

I fitted non OEM wing mirrors a couple of year ago.
I ride through winter so they get all the weather you can throw at them.
But since Christmas the paint has started flaking off the stalks.
The aluminium underneath is not looking good.

I am not sure what to do it. It does not look nice at the moment.
Any help would be grateful.

FZS600 Fazer / super unleaded 97RON
« on: 21 September 2013, 11:28:00 pm »
Just been reading the article (page 42) in Nov issue RIDE.

All about does filling with 97RON super unleaded make a big difference to fuel consumption.

If anyone has read the article how does the Fazer stand up, do you get the 15% gain like the RC8R.

Or no improvement.
I am not sure what the difference is going to be as the Fazer has carbs and not fuel injection.

They ran three tank fulls of super unleaded before measuring the fuel economy.

I wonder were the FZS600 would fit on the RIDE fuel economy challenge, because I am getting about 53mpg, or 250 miles out of 21litre tank my Fazer is a Foxeye with the larger tank.

FZS600 Fazer / exhaust gaskets
« on: 15 August 2013, 10:16:00 pm »
Hi,

Made my repair just like Fazerider did back in January:
http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,5759.msg50534.html#msg50534
But then I have clamped up the exhaust bolts and they are still leaking/blowing.

Do I need to replace the exhaust gaskets and redo the fire gum.

There are two types copper or alloy which is the best for the fazer.

FZS600 Fazer / snapped an exhaust stud
« on: 08 August 2013, 11:06:01 pm »
Hi all,
Removing the exhaust bolts to replace an exhaust clamp and snapped the stud just behind the bolt head.
It was well rusted and I soaked it with GT85 over 3-4 days.
Loads of stud sticking out.
It's done so I need to sort it out.
It's cylinder 3 the upper bolt (2nd exhaust pipe in from the Off side).

I don't know if the stud is seized so must expect it is. I am expecting the stud to snap off at the cylinder face, is this what happened to others.
Is there any way to get the stud out in situe.

What tools have people used that work.
Help would be appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / exhaust bolts rotting
« on: 28 June 2013, 10:14:58 pm »
Hi,

The original bolts on my 2003 fazer 600 rotted after 7 years, I replaced them when I changed the original exhaust for a SS replacement.
These replacements could be A2 or A3 grade steel and after 3 years these too are starting to rot.

Does anyone know if the A4 flange nuts are any better, they are called marine grade.

Or should I go back to the original yamaha nuts.

http://www.yamahascooterspares.co.uk/spares/partImage.asp?GPN=901790666800&uid=0

Not sure what grade of steel these or the original nuts are.

Spotted some TI-6AL-4V (GRADE 5) TITANIUM flange nuts are these better all round.

Any help would be appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / hex bolt at bottom of fork damper rod
« on: 16 June 2013, 11:34:00 pm »
Hi,
Can anyone tell me the M? size of the allen bolt at the bottom of the damper rod, please.

What length hex bolt do I need.
Bought all the bits to change fork oil and seals trying to get all the tools ready for the job.

The instructions on the old Yuku site didn't list any sizes of allens at all.

For Sale & Wanted / WANTED: set of 4 OEM FZS600 exhaust clamps
« on: 12 June 2013, 12:55:12 pm »
Hi,

Trying to copy off what Fazerider did to repair the exhaust clamps back in January.
I still have my OEM exhaust clamps.

http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,5759.msg50534.html#msg50534

But I need 8 OEM clamps to perform the repair to all four headers.

Does anyone have a set off 4 from a scrap OEM exhaust that are not bent that they would be willing to sell.
regards,

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Broken exhaust header clamp
« on: 12 June 2013, 09:19:19 am »
Hi,

Bike passed MOT on Friday.
The inspector pointed out that 3 of 4 header clamps had snapped on the exhaust, thankfully there was no exhaust gasses escaping at the time and it passed. But since I have started to hear a slight muffle sound from the exhaust so I am thinking that maybe some gasses are starting to escape whether it's after the engine is hot/cold not sure.
In January only one was showing a crack. Now 3 have broken in two, probably the steel is not up to the job, anyway

Again it looks to be a common issue with SS exhausts from Sandy Bikespares which mine are as well. the clamps are about 6mm thick and the steel must be inferior quality to the OEM units.

I still have my OEM units, somewhere in the garage but if I am to effect the repair that Fazerider did back in January:

http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,5759.msg50534.html#msg50534

Then I need 8 OEM clamps.
Does anyone have a set off 4 from a scrap OEM exhaust that are not bent that they would be willing to sell.

FZS600 Fazer / front brake service question
« on: 01 June 2013, 09:30:34 pm »
Hi,
serviced both front brakes today.
After clearing all the crud off the pistons I polished them with Autosol.
Shiny or what, they move in/out so easy.

That were the problem started, one fell out and brake fluid went all over the floor.
I pushed the piston back in very easily.

Can I bleed the brakes now knowing there could be a little brake fluid between the fluid seal and the dust seal.

Or should I pull out the pot (loose ALL the brake fluid) and dry between the two rubbers and re-insert the pot and add new fluid and bleed brakes.

what should I do now.......

FZS600 Fazer / broken undertray
« on: 23 May 2013, 09:10:51 am »
Hi,

Over the weekend I dropped the bike in slow motion, I put the side stand down and when getting off the bike it, the bike rolled fwd off the stand.
So while stepping off I had the unfortunate task of trying to stop the bike from dropping to the floor.
Ultimately the bike lay down on the engine bars and saved the front. but the rear left indicator touched down onto the kerb stone and punched through the undertray.

I gaffer taped it up and the other night had a go at using PVC pipe weld to fix the broken plastic.
It worked in some areas of the break but not all.

Has anyone attempted successfully to repair something like this. And how did you do it.

I have seen used undertrays going for £40 approx.
If I cannot repair how easy is it to replace it looks a complete strip down of the rear of the bike. Is it a 5spanner job.

What do you think repair or replace.
Has anyone attempted this replacement before and are there any pitfalls.
Help would be much appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / C spanner in the 600 toolkit
« on: 10 May 2013, 01:37:11 pm »
Hi,

About to upgrade my rear shock on my FZS600 foxeye from std to the FZS1000 shock with the 600 spring as described on the forum.

My question is:
Do I need to buy a different C spanner for the spring preload adjusting ring.

Or can I use the C spanner in the 600 toolkit to do the same job on the 1000 shock.

FZS600 Fazer / Gear indicator from LEDgear
« on: 05 February 2013, 02:05:40 pm »
Hi,

I have a LEDgear gear indicator fitted, I got it probably 9 years ago.
But the replacement neutral switch is starting to play up.
Does anyone know if Alan (I think that was his name) still does any parts or anyone else take it on from Alan.

His site  www.ledgear.co.uk looks to be off line.

FZS600 Fazer / Pass switch stopped working
« on: 05 February 2013, 01:55:38 pm »
Hi,
Going home last night slowed to allow a car out in front and pressed the pass switch on the left handle switchgear.

No full beam. I had to switch to full beam then off to dipped.

Can this switch be cleaned up or is it a case of having to buy a replacement left hand switchgear.

FZS600 Fazer / Oops testing circuit and blew a fuse.
« on: 07 January 2013, 01:18:46 pm »
Hi,

Classic not thinking and rushing in to quickly test something.
I Tried to test the front brake lever switch wiring this morning.....
Switched electrics on (turn key to ON) and tested back brake, tail lights up.
Tested front brake, no tail light. So...
Pulled off connectors and proceded to put a wire loop in too light the tail light.......

BUT forgot to switch OFF electrics, first. I put the test loop into the +ve first by mistake (not the bulb side) and the other end touched the chrome handlebars....Poof..

As a result, I have NO headlights now. Also tested the back brake, no tail lights. Didn't try indicators walked away and will get back tonight.
So my first question is which fuse will have blown the fuse (head light) or fuse (signal) or a another or all.

I can test the fuse (signal) buy trying the horn as this looks to come off that circuit.
But I am a little stumped as to where the fuse (head light) is situated on the Fazer it's a MY03.

Other than the fuse box which I am a little unsure which is which fuse... I have a Haynes manual and will be looking in that tonight but any help would be appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / Help required my Meta 357T V2 has stopped working
« on: 04 January 2013, 08:51:48 pm »
Hi,
I would like a little help, please.

My meta 357tv2 alarm which was fitted with the bike brand new in 2003, has stopped working.
I have the red key card with the 2 codes.

It looks to be completely shut down no led, indicators do not flash, no beeps nothing. If I disconnect the battery
when reconnect it still doesn't work. The bike has been on an optimate in the garage all over the Christmas period.
The alarm has probably gone into sleep mode but it will not wake up.One thing I did check the fuse all ok, but when I reconnect the fuse the alarm sounder makes a crackle noise. I can only assume the internal battery is low.

Can I measure this voltage from the fuse connector to ground. Could the connector onto the alarm have corroded contacts it is mounted under the tail light bracket.
The connector onto the alarm has what looks like security screws is there two.
What are my options,  :( . I need first to try and get the alarm working or bypassed so I can get it replaced or fixed if it's a corroded connector.

Does anyone have the bypass pin out diagram for the connector so I can bypass.

One other note: The fob batteries are the original not had any problems ever. But aside from the alarm if I changethe fob battery will the fob still be recognised by the alarm.

FZS600 Fazer / Spring on the gear selector
« on: 08 May 2012, 10:40:08 pm »
I thought I was going potty.

Sometimes when going up the gearbox I change gear and when I want to change up again the foot lever moves as it is supposed to but there is NO gear selected.

Try again and you change gear as normal.
I thought I was going mad but I am not.....
It can happen between 2-3gear 4-5 and even in 6th.

You change gear and then you can move the gear selector as you do when changing gear but no gear is selected.
It's like the spring which returns the lever is getting tired.
Has anyone else come across this and if so what is the fix....

I found the following ....

http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?ModelID=9657&pageID=19&m=YAMAHA+FZS600SP+FAZER+SHIFT+SHAFT&uid=0

see item 2 listed as spring torsion....

Been looking on the internet and there comments about shift shaft spring problems and people have commented about two springs.

A return spring and a much smaller 'reset spring' on the other side of the gearbox. Could they be getting tired.

Bike is a MY03 with 28k miles on the clock.
Help required.

FZS600 Fazer / transfer Yamaha logo badge
« on: 16 March 2012, 02:39:51 pm »
Hi,

I am about to swap over a damaged fairing with a repaired item purchased on ebay.
I am at a quandary as to how to remove the tuning fork logo badge from the front and transplant it onto the new fairing intact.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

If it's cheaper to buy a new on then so be it but if I can transplant it.
Then it would save me a round trip to the dealer.

FZS600 Fazer / Is my battery on it's way out.....
« on: 14 February 2012, 09:01:02 am »
Hi,

My Fazer is 9years old this year it's a 2003 foxeye FZS600.

Going strong but the last few mornings I have switched the bike on started it up, all ok. Then while getting my gloves on there is the rattle chatter from under the seat. As if the relay is cutting in/out.

The bike is still running give it some revs and the chatter under the seat goes away.

The bike is on an optimate at least one night over the weekend usually Sunday night.

I ride all year round so the bike is on the road a lot.

So is my battery on it's way out and not holding charge properly.

A couple of weeks ago I left the headlights ON for 10-15minutes with the engine not running.

Then when I came to start it I got the full on chatter under the seat so I knew there wasn't enough charge in the battery to start the bike.

Put it on the optimate over night and the bike has been fine until now.

So have I possibly damaged the battery.

This is the 2nd battery and probably getting on for 4years old.

But it's regularly on the optimate.

So am I looking at the death throws of a soon to be duff battery.

Cheers,

FZS600 Fazer / Bike rolled of side stand, Dohhhh
« on: 28 October 2011, 01:03:31 pm »

Hi All,

That one in a lifetime event has happened to me. After 8 years of getting on/off the bike, yesterday I didn't put the side stand down fully and the bike rolled of the side stand while I got off.

No damage to me except my pride and probably my wallet.

The bike is a red fox eye, Fazer FZS600 MY2003.

Damage is scuff to front indicator, bar end clutch lever and left rear view mirror the left rear fender cover (5DM-2163A-10-P5) has a nice road rash, courtesy of old tarmac. But the bummer is the rear left indicator.

This has punched through and broken off whether it was when it landed or while I got the bike upright again.

This looks to be a big part covering the whole under tray under the seat and the number plate holder.

It's listed as either part no: 4YR-21611-01-00  or 4YR-21611-21-00 not sure which related to the fox eye Fazer.

Not really seen any of these parts posted on Ebay. This part looks to be only available when a bike is being stripped for parts.

If anyone knows how much they go for I would like to know, please.

I am considering using various glue to put it back together but would like to know what type of plastic this part is, does anyone know.

It's all being held together with a load of gaffa tape and it's holding together well but long term I wish to repair it or replace the part.

I understand the replacement route looks to be a complete strip down of the rear of the bike.

Thanks for reading any info would help.

Cheers,
