I've had a pipe dream regarding a buying a 600 sports bike for a while now. Any advice on what's good? CBR, R6, ZX, GSX?

Just an idea at the moment, I wouldn't wanna spend more than £2,500 as it would be a summer bike and I won't consider giving up the FZS as I know I'll regret it.

Is it worth it or would I be buying myself a money pit at that price?

FZS600 Fazer / Carb balancing question
« on: 15 August 2012, 02:31:03 pm »
I'm going to be balancing my carbs soon but am a bit confused about something.

The Haynes manual and workshop manual both tell me to adjust the idle speed the adjuster but neither mention the throttle position sensor (TPS) in pointer2nulls guide.

The question is, do I adjust both, one or neither?

General / Chain riveter/splitter advice
« on: 02 August 2012, 07:03:44 am »
The time's come for me to change my chain and sprockets, the chain I've ordered has a soft link so I'm looking into buying a tool and have seen there are three main types (I don't wanna use two hammers):

G-clamp type: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Motorcycle-Chain-Cutter-Splitter-Rivetting-Set-Tool-/300584205994?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item45fc36feaa
Wrap around type: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTORCYCLE-CHAIN-BREAKER-SPLITTER-CHAIN-RIVETER-DID-TYPE-CHAIN-TOOL-/400310323122?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5d345ac7b2
Smack with a hammer type: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Whale-Brand-Chain-Riveting-Tool-For-520-525-530-and-532-Chains-/221043535351?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item337738adf7

Anyone got any advice which is best? I know there are two types of pin on the soft link, I'm going to ring up and ask what type comes with my chain when the shop opens.

General / Should I buy a carbtune?
« on: 24 May 2012, 10:42:11 am »
I'm thinking of buying one but wondering if it's worth it? I don't know if my next bike will have carbs and it seems abit expensive if I can only use it on the fazer every once in a while.
Are there any other uses? The website says it can be used on injection engines but is this just marketing spiel?

General / Surprisingly good service
« on: 08 May 2012, 04:47:40 pm »
I've been meaning to mention this for a while. I noticed a hole in my Motad stainless downpipes after about 6 months use so contacted Motad. The first guy I spoke to wanted the old pipes back for repair, which I thought was reasonable, but he went on holiday. The person who took over sent me out a new set without getting the old ones back, so I could stay on the road, and arranged for the old set to be collected at a time convenient for me. They even supplied replacement gaskets.

I was taken aback by how quickly and professionally they resolved it, it was all sorted in about 2 weeks and I didn't even have to chase them up or argue my case.

Very refreshing and will definitely use them in the future  :)

I bought these a while back but I can't go now because of an exam.

They are student tickets but can be upgraded to real people tickets on the night for £3 each.

Seated in the stalls, seats U19&20.

£21 for both, posted by recorded delivery. (+upgrade to standard tickets will cost £27)

General / Odd riderwear
« on: 04 May 2012, 02:38:46 pm »
On the way home last night I think I saw a biker wearing what looked like a Hans device for motorcyclists, has anyone else seen these before or have I just drawn (probably unwanted) attention to a disabled rider?

FZS600 Fazer / LED indicator resistors
« on: 13 April 2012, 10:44:38 am »
I'm going to fit some LED indicators to my FZS600, they're rated at 2 watt each.

What rating resistor do I need?
Do I need a resistor for each indicator or can I run both indicators a single resistor?

General / Curiosity of national proportions
« on: 17 March 2012, 01:34:53 pm »
I've been having an interesting discussion with someone on facebook regarding St. Patrick's day and it got me thinking about nationality. As there is a large geographic spread on here I was wondering what people from each of the respective nations think,

If you are born in England/Scotland/Wales are you English/Scottish/Welsh or British?

This thread isn't intended to be a platform for the type of racism it could easily degenerate into, I was just wondering how the home nations view their relationship with British nationality.
I personally see myself as English before British but in the same respect I see myself a Yorkshireman before an Englishman.

FZS600 Fazer / Simples?
« on: 14 March 2012, 10:01:57 pm »
I'm thinking of fitting a cig lighter socket under my seat, I'm no sparky but surely its not as simple as wiring a socket (with an in-line fuse) directly across the battery terminals?

FZS600 Fazer / Sprockets and chain advice needed
« on: 28 February 2012, 04:44:53 pm »
I'm replacing my chain and both sprockets and I've got three options:

Busters generic kit (DID chain) £80-90
Renthal sprockets, Tsubaki chain £135
Yamaha set £150

Any experience with these or advice? I like to think I look after my chain but probably do neglect it a bit.

FZS600 Fazer / Fork seal replacement bits
« on: 16 February 2012, 02:48:18 pm »
Looks like my fork seals have finally given up so I've got plenty to do at weekend now.

I've read pointer2nulls guide on the old site, is there anything else I should look out for that isn't mentioned?
http://fazerowners.yuku.com/reply/196600/HOWTO-Forks-Seals-Bushes-and-Oil

I know I need these parts:

dust seal x2
oil seal x2
retaining clip x2
inner bush x2
outer bush x2
fork oil x1 L

I'm thinking of doing the bushes at the same time but am having trouble sourcing some. Does anyone know where I can get some individually or as part of an overhaul kit with all the other seals?

Have they even given the recent changes chance to effect the stats?

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/General-news/2012/January/jan3012-petition-to-scrap-new-licence-rules/

Wouldn't mind so much if they did the same for cars....poorly trained but "qualified" cagers....fewer SMIDSYs....attack on bikers....tax on young drivers....car test needs "propper" maneuvers test like bikes....blah blah blah.... :groan

General / Blanking plates
« on: 20 January 2012, 03:51:39 pm »
I'm thinking of switching to bar end mirrors on my FZS600, I've had a quick look on line but can't find any blanking plates.

Does anyone know were I can find a set?
Also any thoughts on bar end mirrors? These caught my eye as you can tuck them away when you park up:

FZS600 Fazer / Headlight mod dazzle
« on: 09 November 2011, 12:07:30 pm »
I've done the headlight mod on my boxeye and am concerned that I might be dazzling people. Is there anything I can do to the alignment or should not bother and be glad I'll be more visible?
